Yes. Flautino means "little flute." In the recorder family this designation typically goes to the sopranino recorder. However, other flute instruments with the same approximate range, an incidentally tone, may also be considered flautino. To whether Vivaldi intended a sopranino recorder or the liberty of any suitable songbird-like flute, who can say? Regardless, there can be no doubt that the instrument heard here is more than satisfying.
great playing, if he gets a bit overexcited and moves a tiny bit too much. another think i wonder the brand of his sopranino. looks like made of ebony with ivory rings.. beautiful indeed.
wow! This is SO different on period instruments...I often wonder if the old masters would even recognize their music if they came to a modern performance of it...
just as an info kinda thing. he moves because there is no conductor for the other people, and since he is the guy infront he has to conduct them by jumping around like hes had a pepsi to many ;P
Moving helps you keep the rythmic affect of the music (hard as baroque rythms are mutable). Almost evey historical performer I know moves alot when they play.
I've watched this performance here and on my own DVD at least 20 times and I'm still totally blown away by it. Antonini is my favorite recorder player, and Il Giardino Armonico are fantastic!
I saw this group last night at disney hall. They are phenomenal. I hope they come back to LA. They are all so gifted, each is a technical genius, and I love the way he moves when he plays recorder
Yes they are awesome and the recorder player is amazing but imagine how much more amazingly he would be able to play if he didn't move so much. and it is so distracting!!!
Amazing!!! This piece is my solo for this year n it sounds super fun :D

ah, scusate, non è un ottavino?
ChiaraMorgan 2 years ago

If he stood there like a rock, the other musicians would not be able to follow him properly and the entire performance would fall apart.
