  • I love you, man.

    Yes homo.

  • I'm not gay, but i love you.

  • You might be one of the best musicians I've ever heard. Love listening to your work. Best wishes in all your endeavors and God's grace to you.

    Thanks for the ear candy.

  • rip grandpa. i wish i could be at the funeral.

  • the songs are short but the album really really flows quite well and it is a good length when you listen to it as a whole.

  • Was that Judgment Day?

  • AN OBOE!

    WOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  • I just love how you do varieties. Keep it up! I love them all!

  • The #11 at 2:26 is brilliant.

  • @D97Music actually the song ends at that time =/

  • My only complaint. Your songs are too freakin' short. So I find myself listening to them over and over again when I really should be working. (Don't tell my boss). But seriously, a great song. Thanks.

  • i love these video songs but i can really appreciate the music better if its just the audio. gonna go buy the album now after long delay!

  • how do you find these musicians? friends of yours or something?

  • This composition is so unique in its nature. Orchestral elements and a 6 part harmony neatly strewn together among sharps, flats, augmented and diminished chords. Bravo.

  • Really great track and wonderfully arranged

  • This is a very collected and matured album. Some real incredible song writing skill in here.

  • I'm man enough to admit I almost cried :(

  • there always be somebody who are deaf, don't know what's music, can't distinguish thumb up/down button or can't control their mouse accurately.

  • Love... This... GAHH!!

  • Jack, you are my absolute modern day hero.

  • Jack your eyes look a little red. ANd you look really sad :( your making me cry :/

  • bravo.

  • I genuinely prefer your quieter stuff, since the thing that shines is your great harmonies; in loud, distorted full textures it just becomes muddy and you have to simplify or it's unpleasant to listen to(usually), the instruments and pace in this really work with it all and allow for nuances and dynamics, waffling a bit

  • @rosserikslash I totally agree to you. Jack, I hope you get this message

  • harmonizing that would make Imogen Heap jealous.

  • Jack, I'm really loving your orchestral work! I'd really love to hear more! :)

  • I've had this in my head all day long, what a great song

  • Hey Man What Kind Of Wah-Wah's U like? EHX ain't in the wah-wah game no more so's I was wonder'n?

  • @rsalmon63 Hey Man I'm just watch'n now a demo of the H.O.G It's got a Wah!

  • @rsalmon63 It's F'N Crazy!!

  • @rsalmon63 Ahhhhh But then I come across you on EHX's vid's for the H.O.G!!!!!!!!!! 2 Funny!

  • This is so amazing. I love the moment when you finally resolve that suspension to a major chord-- it's so perfect. I wish I could write stuff that makes this much musical and emotional sense. Keep up the good work!

  • @jackcontemusic this song is very crazy and very very nice

  • one day you will become the music legend

  • This is a great, great, great song.

  • Jack, have you considered covering any Tally Hall songs (with or without Nataly?) It would be such a treat and I think you'd have a blast with their vocal and instrumental arrangements.

  • woodwinds, brass, strings....sweet!!! way to go Jack.

  • Yeah! This song is sounding great so fa-....no....No.... NOOO!!! Dang you spinny wheel of buffering!

  • Oh man, I love those major->minor falls. SO good.

  • beautiful

  • I LOVE VS4. It's totally different from your other stuff, which I really like. It's a stylistic departure, but in a good way.

  • my adventure through your music has been damn good. someone showed me the pomplamoose cover of telephone a long time ago. I recently revisited the channel to listen to it, and discovered that you two had originals. phenomenal originals. I always knew there were links to respective solo stuff for you two, but I only just got around to clicking it. You now have my undivded musical attention. i've been in a musician's lull as of recent, and you've inspired a lot of creative ideas for me.

  • @YouDunPlayGuitar - This is almost exactly the same story that I have. Crazy! But I was introduced through the Beyonce cover. I listen to Jack almost everyday and I just love it and can't get enough. I love the harder stuff, but it's also nice to chill out to the stuff on VS4, too.

  • @tgrmatt - Haha yes, everyday here too. An unhealthy amount, actually. I'm glad to have found these hidden gems.

  • dear beautiful music,y u no show up in my sub box???

  • needs more french horn

  • Holy crap, some really quality musicians featured in this video! Lots of talented individuals. Great arrangement too!

  • your stuff just gets better and better. thank you. (:

  • dude. do a cover of Polythene Pam by the Beatles.

i think the drums in that song suit you.

  • i really hope you and nataly havent split up.

  • Jack, may I ask for your music's hand in marriage?

  • Jack. You're. I don't mean it in a little girlish way: you are my hero. Not because you are rich and famous (are you even, really?). But because I am a 22 year old soon to be unemployed (summer employment only lasts so long) guy with a music degree, multi-instrumentalist (primarily bassist) who writes songs. But could never record them alone because I am not a good enough singer, or drummer. I'm no good at recording. You are amazing at everything, and you still take time to respond to fans. love

  • Love it =D !

  • Almost could be a Beatles song. Nice!

  • simple yet deep... beautiful.

i would have this as my funeral march when i slip away...

  • Saturday comes slowly would be an awesome song for u to do

  • @mdille00 no, i havent heard it. ive heard tons of his songs on you tube and what not, and ive liked everything ive heard. i will have to try to research that though :)

  • Last night I saw a band called Tornado Rider. Another group called Judgement Day opened. The guys on cello and violin are in Judgement day. Weird coincidence. Lovin' your music, man. Theirs too.

  • :sinks into melodic ocean of musical brilliance:

  • Jack, I don't care what you post....grungy, orchestral; I like 'em all, dood. You are doing great things with your music, and I'm just damn happy every time I see that you've posted a new video song.

  • A truly beautiful piece. While I very much enjoyed your "heavier" material, these new, more textured and subtly layered recordings display your increasing mastery of your personal recording methods. It is one thing to hear great sounds inside of your own head; it is quite another to be able to bring them out and give them life, for others to hear and enjoy. Thank you so much for sharing the sounds inside your head with us.

  • Funken Groooven

  • very well produced bravo keep em comin and I'll watch and learn. Thanks and God Bless !

  • Just a recommendation: stop kicking asses, it's harmful for the men who earn millions with music-shit

  • Fecking Love VS4, I also like the fact that you have two sides, not the just the grungier heavier side that you've the lovely more orchestral side to your music too!

  • very oren lavie

  • Good job, Jack !..

  • wow really great......

  • holy crap this is AWESOME

  • Breadcrumb Trail - Slint

  • My hero. The composition is just... ...I have no words.

  • One of my favourites off this album!

  • L-O-V-E the high notes at 1:27 !!!!!!

  • FUCKING HARMONY!

  • You are by my standards a great man. Your music has influenced the world, and will continue to do so, so long as you remain in human memory. Don't let the hard times get you down, Jack. You are an amazing person.

  • This was beautiful, Jack. I love your variety in expression.

  • Slightly melancholy, but so soothing. This one calmed me down. It was nice!

  • U should do another Radiohead cover. Somethin from the new album

  • Brilliant arrangement! :)

  • Completely amazing.

Jack, everything you do is simply incredible. Whether it's just simple vocals and piano, or intense electronica, I will always buy it.

  • The dude is a bearded genius

  • man this remind me of a master: robert wyatt. This voice overdubbing is fantastic!

  • Is it just me, or does the trombone player look like Elvis Costello?

  • Awesome vocal harmonies! Do I sense some Elliott Smith influence here?

  • Bravo Jack! Your art is inspirational with a smirk. Keep it up!!

  • Jack, you are one of the most talented and inventive musical artists out on the scene today, off and on YouTube. You truly are awesome! Yayy!!!

  • Like, damn. Nice work, Jack.

  • so nice

  • where's the drums???

  • wow!

  • reminds me of a band called deer hunter

  • You are full of surprises. Never thought you'd make a song about quietness. It made me feel very sentimental. Thank You.

  • Every great artist has their own ballads, and although their not heavy, their really great songs, that show off his incredible, so his music is not changing styles, cuz after all music can be emotions interpreted in sounds, and if u cant appreciate it, then ur music taste needs to mature a little, and of course stop being closed minded :)

  • Jack, is there any way to get the CD in Canada besides iTunes?

  • I'm glad I can visually see this being recorded, because I would have never known all of the instruments used. Now that I can see them, I can actually hear them. Does that make any sense?

  • OMG you're just too cool !! Brilliant orchestration ~!!

  • I should have bought VS4 (the CD) at your Philly show, but I got too excited after we talked about Calvin and Hobbes that I completely forgot to buy it. Fantastic song... seriously.

  • Jack please make a play list of just your original songs. pleeeease ^^

  • I LOVE THIS Jack.... EPIC.

  • I don't know why bur this song became like an addiction to me.. It's like touching to my soul..

  • i'm kind of missing his stuff like 'i know' and 'eat'

  • @andrewsmithify - no worries, homie. i'm missing that stuff, too. The year that I recorded VS4 was a really tough year for me personally, and i ended up writing a really quiet record - i don't regret it at all. But since it came out, I've been missing my grungier, harder side. I've gotten into to a lot of intense music recently, and it's starting to influence my next round of compositions - so my guess is my next batch of songs will sound way heavier and grungier than VS4

  • @jackcontemusic I'm new to ur channel, and love grunge! don't get me wrong i like this stuff to, but maybe u should go back to grunge

  • @jackcontemusic artists are free to express themselves in any way, mood, and sound possible. I fully support your music and songs in every way possible and although my personal preference is your style back in the days of Eat, Lonely Ghost, and Like a Match, VS4 was a powerful and well produced album. I am so excited to hear that you will be further experimenting and i'm sure everyone else is just as excited to hear what new type of genre you come up with next.

  • @jackcontemusic I think VS4 has some of your best songs! Great melodies!

  • @jackcontemusic hey jack, that's awesome! don't get me wrong i bought vs4 and dug it, it was nice to see a different side, but at the same time i love tracks such as the giant or yeah yeah yeah. thanks for replying!

  • @jackcontemusic As much as I love the style of VS4, it is very good to hear that you're going grungier for your next release :)

  • @jackcontemusic I absolutely adore these orchestral things. I think they show enormous skill and talent- even more so than your heavier grungier stuff. "Off with his head" was what made me subscribe to you! Don't you dare forget about these wonderful instruments you're using! If I get more like "Long Long Time Ago" I could consider you my new favorite musician. I love these things. I'm not you, so I'm not the musician here- but I would love nothing better than this combined with your heaviness!

  • @jackcontemusic very curious what intense music is influencing you! btw-- LOVED the "various grooves" experiment

  • @jackcontemusic Don't feel like you have to 'miss' any of that stuff, dude.

It's always important for an artist to show variety - and you've certainly shown that with this album: I personally adore both grungy and 'softer' music. They're both equally hitting similar levels of awesome, and it's more down to personal taste rather than your soft music being worse then your grungier stuff like Gulf.

This song's absolutely beautiful, and I hope you continue to do whatever the hell you feel like :)

  • Don't worry Jack, your grungy, heavy side shows through a tad at 1:19...and boy is it good!

  • @jackcontemusic The toughness comes through in these songs; it's just dipped in melancholy for flavor. The best aspect of your oeuvre is the view it gives of your heart. Keep your music honest. Thank you for putting it on display.

  • @andrewsmithify I like em both

  • Not sure if someone's told ya' this already Jack, but you're fucking amazing.

  • seriously, beautiful harmonies

  • Man, that is fuckin' sad. Great job, though. Impressive resolutions.

  • "...And time will tell if all is real.

Time's been right all my life,...": this part is LA OSTIA, Jack

I want to ask how do you put two and more videos in one window?

I tried it in adobe premiere but it is not comfortable.

  • No, Jack...don't go...

  • Quite a bit of "Natalie face" in this one.

  • eargasm

  • i just favourited ur video :) cuz it's awesome :) i dun usually favourite video but yeahh ;)

  • The choices of notes for melody and harmony at around 1:19 are truly inspired. Choices like that distinguish you from other songwriters. I enjoyed this very much.

  • Truly Amazing! Jack Conte you are a GOD!!!!!!!

  • Enjoyable, not my cup of tea but still worth listening to :)

  • Mind boggling!!!

  • You make beards all over the world epic I wear my beard with even more PRIDE!

  • This is beautiful. Jack, you're amazing and you help get my creativity flowing(:

  • Great x 100000!!! Thank you for the inspiration Jack, :^\

  • No cool ending like the others? Awww!

  • What a superb composition, and I love the orchestration too. Bravo!

  • how and where did you get this creativity? I wish i was able to thing of something like this. this is pure brilliance!

  • Your composition, choice of instrumentation, and sonority of sound is simply inspiring. Truly a remarkable piece.

  • I always love his facial expressions xD

  • :o really diggin this one jack. good job:D

  • jack! did u put this all together yourself?

  • Very nice, it was quite a soothing song

  • The Real amazing part is how fast your hair grows. You had a shaved head a week ago!

  • @JimConnollyMusic I think he recorded this quite a while ago, when VS4 was in production. It still is pretty amazing how often his hair changes, though.
