You can notice that she enjoys talking about her carrier and her dancing rather than the movie. Its a shame that the spotlight has been put on her because of this black swan controversy when there is more to her than that.
@Blastaar7 in my experience the american's. but i have known europeans to be snobby. they just get their ego shot down all though their training so they are never really allowed to be snobby. their training is intense!
@ogechinigerian Americans-they seem to go around like they are the gift to ballet and if they make a mistake on stage. your rarely see them betting themselves over it. Europe Dancers- they take great pride in their art form and they do beat themselves for littles of mistakes. (i know I do that). Usually the punishment is something like practicing that mistake on the barre to the center and then when it's good enough to put into the dance she/he will practice it in the danceALOT
Why the Time magazine took a stab at SL? It is because that NP is going play some big roles in some Warner Brother new movies? Or just because the Time’s editor has a crash on NP, like so many other people.
Why the Time doesn’t ridicule this ‘intelligent’ director who used screen shot counting to prove NP did most of the dancing, or this ‘serene’ Hollywood goddess released her childhood dancing video as proof she did most of the dancing, and also sent her fiancé to talk to newspaper to praise her dancing.
The Dec 26 Time Magazine put SL in a list of ridiculous people, saying “Lane’s highly public complaint may turn out to be her swan song.” (This, I hope, is just Time editor’s wishful thinking). If there is anyone deserved to be ridiculed in this BS dancing double saga, it is not Sarah Lane.
@occupymybrain8 Why the Time doesn’t ridicule this ‘intelligent’ director who used screen shot counting to prove NP did most of the dancing, or this ‘serene’ Hollywood goddess released her childhood dancing video as proof she did most of the dancing, and also sent her fiancé to talk to newspaper to praise her dancing.
"Just acting" for somebody who believes her craft should be more respected for how grueling it is she really is undermining another art form. Sure, acting may not be as physically demanding but it takes the same amount of work .. actors put as much time, effort, blood, sweat, and tears into making it look "easy" as she claims dancers do.
@zaculyar2 She was hired to dance, not to show her body. Sure it was a movie, but there is a huge difference between dancing which is an art and requires a lot of talent and hard work and just showing one's body. They could've just written, but regardless of credits, the issue is that the producers went on and on about how much dancing Natalie Portman did which was misleading.
@swinche95 No she doesn't. She is very graceful and very good. The scenes shown are from the first act of Giselle where she is playing a shy innocent girl.
Yes, I think she's a beautiful dancer, and yes I think she deserves credit - but Natalie Portman won the oscar for her incredible acting in the movie, not the dancing.
@TicketToMe i don't know if she has a problem with natalie getting the oscar. in another interview i saw, she said she understands the oscar is for acting and that natalie did a wonderful job. the problem she has is that they purposely tried to pass of sarah's dancing as natalie when that wasn't the case. it's really offensive how they credited her as 'lady in the lane' and as an extra when it is her skill they used to create much of the film. that said, i like both people and the film.
When I was watching the film, all I took notice of the character of Nina, how gifted she was and how consuming the ballet world, what epic scope and depth it really had.
But only after it's over, does everyone analyze all the little details of the production. Natalie got all the credit for this and Lane who did all the real dancing, helped to train Natalie herself... all the awards and ovations for Nina... all for Natalie. No , I suppose it isn't fair, is it?
I've no idea what i mean but her arms are kinda stiff and her story sounds weird..i mean you don't get itroduced to a director when your pic is taken by a costume lady...they do auditions and stuff like that :? and she got nervous when they asked about her involvement with black swan
@MyGoddes She didn't need to do auditions. She is a soloist at the ABT which is the top ballet company in the US and they wanted her. They needed to have someone at a her level of a similar height with Natalie. There aren't that many dancers like this around. Plus, Natalie's baby's daddy knew her from ABT work. As to her being stiff and Natalie graceful - you have no clue. Close-ups of Natalie's arm movements were pretty awkward, and even an average ballet fan like me can tell when they switch.
Sarah didn't want fame or to tear Natalie down, it's just that people that aren't educated in the art of ballet may think that Natalie became a prima ballerina in a year, which is degrading to the ballet world.
far out calm down sarah lane....you were her stunt double...you are a beautiful dancer we can all see that...just be content that you were offered such an amazing opportunity. no one would know who you were if it weren't for black swan so be great full!!
@sammyjo08 Lol you just don't get it do you. Are you telling me that f you were approached by the media asking for your side of the story, you wouldn't say anything because you somehow loved NP so much you wanted to protect her Oscar?C'mon, for the amount of work, Lane had the right to say what she did and its not even about being grateful, more about the JUSTICE and INTEGRITY of the work. How about if I used one of your youtube videos to win a filmmaker's award and didn't credit you deservingly?
Her 5% or 10 % participation on the movie she agreed to do this part without tending to be famous or get any credit...NOW SHE IS YELLING EVERYONE OVER STEP NATALIE....GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE Sarah!!! stop hanging on her win, freaky jelous!
Praising Natalie for how hard she worked does not cheapen Sarah's work in any way. However, Sarah's job in this movie was to dance and look like Natalie, THAT's what she was hired for, so naturally that's what she was credited for. There have been plenty of other films about dance where dancers are listed as "stunt doubles" and none of them raised a stink about it. Natalie was amazing in that movie - it's sad that some people are trying to tear her down.
I don't really understand why there was such a huge fuss about Black Swan. They credited her as Natalie's "stunt double", which is EXACTLY what she was. Natalie had every right to let others know how hard she worked for that movie. She may not have done the harder dances, but the amount of work that goes into just getting a ballerina's posture, grace, footwork, etc. is still extreme. Plus, Natalie was working on another job WHILE going to ballet practice and actors usually work 12-13 hour days.
@KaikiTsuki49 There's a general problem with Hollywood qualifying dance parts as stunts. Dancing is an art form so Lane, a performance artist, should have been credited as a "dance solo". An opera singer or a pianist who lends their "instrument of artistic expression" to an actor isn't called a "stunt double". Olejniczak who substituted for Adrien Brody in The Pianist was credited as "musician:piano solos". Same with the opera singers in Farinelli :voice doubles listed as soprano & contralto.
@repn87 It's one persons word against the other, about the percentage of dancing she did. And you are really gonna throw a fit over that? Stunt people do this for a living, and know what to expect. She knew this was why she was brought in as well. She should be credited next to Nat? She didn't do any acting... she danced and she was credited as doing so. They dont include percentages in the credits, sorry. Main point, you don't think we know Nat didn't do all that dancing?Youd have to be a dummy
@repn87 No one despises her work. Her job was simply to look like Natalie, and dance. That is how movies are made! She knew thats what she was brought in for.Actors don't do all their own stunts.Stuntmen are brought in to make it seem realistic. For continuity reasons we aren't SUPPOSED to notice that they suddenly brought someone in. And we all know when they do, hello. She WAS credited.
Get flow in the Giselle var. melt into those arabesque penchees. Go for the Spessivtzeva diagonal instead of the piques which are flat.. It will give you a sharp contrast. I saw you in "Theme" and loved you in it.
I noticed in her "Giselle" that the upper body is not quite as fluid yet as someone who, perhaps, has had more opportunitie to do the role. She says herself that the goal is to become un-selfconscious and "mature" in dancing; she is beautiful and I, too hope she is given many more opportunities to grow in some of the roles she desires. It's amazing how much dedicationi and work they have to put in daily in order to have a few chances to shine.
I know dancing is her job and perhaps the whole world doesn't understand how difficult it is but she seems downright annoyed to have done it....... Work is work for a dancer. I'd kill to be in a feature film. I don't believe in this situation I would seem at all ungrateful. Her lack of enthusiasm is dissapointing.
I'm surprised ABT hasn't allowed her to perform Juliet yet. She has the perfect proportions for that role and she makes very good dramatic performances.
I think she is a huge Beeoch that craves attention.
