you should all take a look at mike johnstons lesson on this, he explains that everyone is different and you should let your body figure out whats best for you, may it heel-toe, slide, or other lesser known ones that i like to call sweep and skip

awesome video. right when you go to give the visual example in context with a beat the camera pans up (dorks). Plus, the 'slide' method is not the preferred method of most pro drummers (a la Steve Gadd, etc). Right away when you give the example you 'bury' the beater (rest it on the drum head). Doubles may be achieved with a quick double tapping of the foot, not through trickery.
