  • I just wish i could have been there.!

  • Why don't people put lights on their instruments anymore? It's so cool.

  • Just read in a book on the Chitlin Circuit that this song is about the drag queens that used to perform along with shows on the circuit @KrenWRN1 -- no kidding.

  • Love Louis Jordan! You can sure see who inspired Little Richard.

  • Made my day. Thanks for posting!

  • This is Casablanca's era

  • my great grandmother name was caldonia

  • DAT SHIT WAS TIGHT!

  • was looking for jordan doing "blue light..." and run into this. what a find. Bob n Tucson

  • oh my god, it's team iLuminate

  • I don't care what genre of music it is. I don't care when it was recorded. But this song puts a smile on my face. I laugh so hard every time Louis does those high kicks. I can't get enough!

  • I know how to dance this since I was born :)

    I'm a natural Rock N' Roll lover :D

  • I love negro music :) LMAO :P

  • One of the earliest forms of rap, right Eminem?

  • @pucksterz12 Rap dont even come close, this is probably one of the earliest rock n roll songs in existence.

  • has someone an idea, with what they got their instruments illuminated? Looks like neon lights and you can see a cable on the sax of louis, what do you think?

  • MAFIA 2 FTW!

  • Where swing jazz and boogie generated rock'n'roll

  • No Louis jordan no rock n roll

  • I love the last dance!!!

  • "Yeah Louis, look, we think some white people may actually watch the show, so, er, what we're gonna do is, we're gonna ad a string section - now hold on a minute, I know it's ridiculous, but you know how skittish them white folks get and a string section might be just the thing,ok?"

  • my grandmother loves this song. i took a chance and hoped to find this on youtube. she was shocked, when i found it. it really made her day. she told me stories for hours. thank you very much, for posting this.

  • 12 or 13 years ago I saw this clip on "The History of Rock and Roll" and spent years looking for its source...all I could find was that crappy watered down living room version on VHS tape (actually rented it from Blockbuster). Finally I get to see the whole thing thanks to Youtube. Incredible song, played it as a dance tune at my wedding and my mother in law's cousin cut the rug with me stomping during the chorus ^^

  • @M0rganstudios Same exact thing happened to me! I have been looking for this song ever since I saw it in the documentary as well. I would always spell the title wrong when searching, which led to much frustration. And about 30 minutes ago, after all these years, I've found it. Success

  • @iwillnevergetone5 In my case I was just looking for the video :) I've had the song on the album called "Rock and Roll" for years. Its a killer album. That's the CD we used for my wedding(1998)

  • The granddaddy of RnR, Louis Jordan is the most underrated singer/ songwriter of all times

  • this actually makes me cry with laughter, its brilliant!

  • One of the very first Rappers

  • He says "Mama didn't know that I was in love with caledonia" instead of "Mama didn't know what Caladonia was putting down".

  • to write -sing , dance and give off such hi energy- man there was a time when entertainers , and artists really understood what it meant to entertain and lift the spirits of an audience, it's the whole apple, it's the juice, it's pie in the sky

  • This is so GREAT! - Rock n Roll from the 40s WONDERBAR!!!

  • * LIKE *

  • Was never into the black music scene but this era in music, these jazz, blues, swing bands were probably the best musicians of the time - pionerers of Rock and Rock. This is great, Thanks!

  • I actually got this from Chad McGaw, who has a link for it in his liner notes to his project, Hot Hits. The great Louis Jordan.

  • I actually got this from Chad McGaw, who has a link for it in his liner notes to his project, Hot Hits.

  • Thanks a lot for posting this video again - I have missed it fot about 1 year!!!

    Thanks pal!!

  • Mos Def did a version of this song on the HBO Special Lackawanna Blues

  • Excellent footage. Great to see this kind of history on YouTube.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • I love Louis Jordan big time. The true Father of rock n roll and as James Brown said the Father of Rap music.Hot stuff Louis hot stuff.

  • hmm, their instruments glow

  • Neon lights need high voltage. Even with low amps 50k volts could give you quite a "thrill" as my electronics teacher used to say. It was bold to hold a metal saxophone with a trailing neon power cord back in 1946. One more reason Louis Jordan is the original, one and only. If you want to know where Rock 'n' Roll was born, look no further.

  • i love swing parade, partly because the three stooges co.stared

  • I cant tell u how much joy this brings me. Louis man u da shizzle fo sure!

  • This was always my favorite song in that movie... we watched it over and over and over. xD It's awesome to see it on YouTube! Now I don't have to bust out the VHS to watch it, lol

  • what was the movie?

  • @buzzhyda Swing Parade of 1946.

  • 2 cool 3 school! wish there were a greatest hits cd.

  • haha this guy is the best

  • Louis Jordan....the true "king of rock n roll" !! This was mostly likely 10 years b4 the likes of Elvis, JL Lewis, Fats and Chuck Berry.....yet it rocks every bit as hard. This song has so much of what is to follow in the 1950's, yet few that followed could reach the electricity of this performance!!

  • I just posted a version of Caldonia on my own site , but this is much Hotter

  • If Dick Clark didn't steal this melody for the American Bandstand theme song...

  • Wouldn't surprise me if he did

  • Louis Jordan lives 4ever through his music the real king of rock!!!!!!!!!

  • man he doing triplets with that trumpet!!

  • Just love this tune! Thanks for posting it porknbeans1968!

  • My pleasure, thanks for viewing!

  • Slightly faster tempo with this version. Very groovy. And hey, Louis Jordan could dance a step or two...

  • alsome tune ...my granma played this on a 78 when i was kid in the 1970's .... rock and roll hall of fame ... its the frist r&b record - rock

  • Awesome show and video! Thank U for posting :-)

  • Transport me back now, baby. Quick, fast and in a hurry. LJ sho knew how to Let the Good Times Roll.

  • i love it when he does the kick... anyways he's using the falsetto technique that would later inspire little richard :) love the upbeat

  • Weren't the Stooges in this movie?--RG

  • I believe so.

  • @porknbeans1968 yes they co stared, ive seen this milloins of times, i love this movie

  • Yes they were . . . and that's my mother dancing on the left. She's still teaching dancing, and is every bit as lively as she was then. What a blessing!!
