  • Love it I adore the whisle on this locie love it thankyou

  • Somehow # 5s whistle reminds me of 1361 on her trial run

  • okay everybody listen up here is all the stuff #5 nees to run again a new smokebox a heavily reworked boiler or new one heavy firebox work and serious running gear work

  • Joel - thanks for sharing this one - I was there!! In the first scene I'm the guy in the light barn coat on the open car. Jon Bentz

  • @gumup Hey, excellent Jon!

  • the Pickering #11's whistle sounds like the Nevada Northern #40's whistle, or at least it sounds like the NN 40's used to, in the late 80's.

  • 2 Powells and a D&RG.....hmm epic!

  • nice 3 chime!

  • CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG!!!!! I love that sound!!!

  • We don't know for sure that the 5 needs a new boiler, don't jump to conclusions. We need a thorough evaluation of the affected area, and some decisions have to be made as to the best way to fix it. I can guarantee that it doesn't need an entirely new boiler.

  • what happened to shay 11?

  • @imagreatbigman After being rebuilt, the FRA changed the boiler regulations.

  • Geese, no wonder the earth is so polluted.

  • im gonna try NOT to be goofy but in my opinion that whistle sounds the ashton 3 chime sounds like prr k4 1361 before her boiler was cracked

  • yes i agree, that whistle does sound like the 1361.

  • those brown coaches used to run on bc rail with the royal hudson.

  • wait but what happened to #5 that her boiler got a crack in it and that is has so many problems

  • o ok will they build or get a new one

  • No. 5 needs a new boiler.

  • to david245611 yea shay #11 has a good chance of running she needs to get retubed , a compressor a new headlight and line shaft she was suposed to be back sooner but bad economy she and #5 are the last to get serviced

  • so when will it return 2010 or 2011 i hope i want to see it so bad

  • so will #5 porter ever run again

  • The Railroad plans to have it run again, but she is on the back burner. Her boiler has partially crystalized, and her under carriage needs work. So it will be a while until #5 steams again.

  • Chris,

I have no idea where you got that information from but that is incorrect. The #5 simply has no funding and low on the priority list to get serviced. It has a minor crack that needs to be x-rayed and determined if the crack is at a critical location where it can not be fixed.

After the Willamette and the #70 is finished, work will start on the rebuild of the #17 and an examination of the #5. The #2 will be done in June/July (July 4th is the CMO's goal) and November/December for the #70.

  • A fellow railroader told me about the #5's condition, and the plans for her. Sorry, that's what I was told. Didn't mean to misinform.

  • Always check your facts with a first party, fellow railroader or not

  • @hollywood1340 The fellow railroader who told me happened to be Stathi Papas, and he is at the Mount Rainier shops working his butt off to fix the 70.

  • do you know if shay 11 in Mt.Rainer is going to run again?

  • Engine 5 is my favorite engine, I really love the Crosby 3-chime she has.

  • fives whistle is a ashton three chime.

  • Thank you, for the correction. It is a very beautiful whistle.

  • very nice

  • I think the Climax's whistle at 4:43 is the one now on Hielser 2 at the Oregon Coast!

  • Yes it is. I believe it's a 3-chime Lunkenheimer.

  • Great video! If you have more photage I would love to see it.
