Personally, "N." is one of my favourite short stories by The King. If you liked the video you'll really enjoy reading the tale. Another great tale of his regarding obsession is "Nona".
i think that both IT and this creature may be the same as the monsters in the todash darkness. if u read IT and the dark tower books there is a similarity to the todash darkness and the deadlights where Bill D. sees IT's true form.
is it me (probably is) or does the image on one of the rocks at 4:56 look like...clown, i.e. Pennywise? which given the mythology of IT would make perfect sense...what do ya think?

@tcrimson it fitsa bit. if u read the dark tower books, it seems that both IT and this creature are similar to or ARE the creatures in the todash darkness. there seems to be a similarity to the todash darkness and the deadlights where Bill D. sees IT's true shape.
i finnished this story last night, and i had such a restless night's sleep lol.
usually i can stand stephen king's stories because they're about the supernatural and it's easy to kinda tell yourself that it really couldn't happen, but this one was almost too realistic. i'm glad i read this story and everything but i don't think i could ever re-read it haha.
@venusboys3 You know, that Arthur Machen the Great God Pan wasn't very good. It had a lot of good build-up and then went nowhere. It would have been better if they had explained the monster or the other world a bit better. Or at least explained whether the people were destroyed by what they saw or if the girl actually compelled them purposely. All the same, I love N.
No, I don't know that... not everyone needs explanations for all that stuff... a lot of us prefer that some mystery remain in place, to let our own imaginations fill in the shadows.
It's not a matter of 'good' or 'bad'... just a difference in taste.
@venusboys3 I felt it left more questions than it answered and I was more confused than chilled. I mean, it felt like it had the bones of a great story, but somewhere it kind of fell apart for me. I don't mind the lack of a resolution, in fact, I like that about some of Stephen King and HP Lovecraft's stories. I just felt like it could have used more detail in some places. It felt more like a summary than a story, I guess.
@JorgensZelda the ambiguity is part of the message in the stories. one of the scariest parts of "n" is the implication that it isnt a monster at all, but the sad story of a man losing his grip on reality, and pulling others down with him through a shared delusion.
@adgato75 Like I said, I don't mind the lack of a resolution. It's just that, for most of "The Great God Pan" I'm just like, "Dude, share the delusion. A bunch of people meet a woman (she might be crazy, she might be a demon) and they die (they might be compelled, they might be murdered, they might have been driven mad) and she moves on. Is she a serial killer? Is she possessed? Is she really a demon who showed them some dimension that can't be comprehended by the ordered mind? WTF happened?"
@adgato75 I feel like a story, while it doesn't need a resolution, shouldn't make me spend the entire length of the story going "Um, WHAT?" Edgar Allan Poe, Stephen King, HP Lovecraft, among others, were very good at blurring the line between the supernatural and madness. Machen, not so much. Sorry.
@JorgensZelda yeah thats true. i think the main reason is that its so old that the story doesnt have the same emphasis for modern readers. the choices he made in that story highlight things that would be scary to readers back then, but not so much now. since a lot of horror is based on subconcious subversion of cultural taboos and mores, it often doesnt keep up with shifts in morality or modern beliefs. plus machens writing style is dated, which can be distracting.
@adgato75 That might be it. His narrative structure doesn't help. It's like a diary run amok. It's definitely a sign of a great horror writer when their work still frightens people decades or even centuries later. I think that Poe has stood the test of time and so has HP Lovecraft. A few others come to mind. A lot of their contemporaries seem tame, even bland by today's standards.
It was about September 11th the guy would have been killed in the twin towers but he called in sick than items that used to belong to his coworkers that had died began appearing so he could give them back to their families
Hi. I've finished listening the "N" story yesterday. I got it in the audio book Juste avant le crépuscul (Just after sunset in French). That`s freaking sick. The other I really loved is: La fille pain d`épice = The gingerbread girl. If you haven`t you really must to read that one.
I'm amazed that Stephen King keeps finding ways to show is that he is one of greatest literary geniuses of all time, after all these years. Thanks for posting these.
YES!thanks loads!!!its really annoying having to watch the opening and closing credits over and over on the unmerged episodes!!your efforts are much appreciated :) :)
One of SK's best short stories. If you liked this one, try reading "Nona" or "Survivour Type". Both deal largely in losing one's sanity.

Is N. played by Stephen King? I wish I knew who did the voice for N. Sounds a bit like Anthony Heald.
