I am so sorry mate for not commenting sooner I had some many things to do!! Fantastic progress mate and I was wondering if you will change anything or just rebuild it like you had it before
@trevorledgeway Thanks Trevor, wife is improving a lot, and got a bit more done on my model railway , but still a way to go to complete it...roll on summer and NYMR
I think i have now realised why i like your layout so much. I think its because that although its of course very realistic and model like it also still has a 'train set' look to it. Please dont take that as anything but a compliment. I dont know if anyone else agrees? Keep up the good work Dave. If i can make mine anything near as good as yours i will be well happy.
Very nice layout you have there Dave! Looks like your very busy with the layout. Hope your wife gets better soon and you get back to visit the North York Morse Rwy :)
@dmncau Thanks, yes hopefully she will be walking unaided within a few weeks, and then we shall be back up there, The layout is being done slowly , will get there eventually
@howarth004 I just started collecting Hornby (I live in Canada and usually model American Railroads) got two engines and BR standard 4MT and a GWR Castle Class :) When I was a kid I got a Collet Goods for a present and two airfix Class 31s
Thank you. I'll stick with version 9. At least I know how it works, at last! I am interested in UK models, but have been rather put off by the ugly great couplings on many Hornby models and the general (seeming) absence of close coupling. Has this changed recently? I have a 4CEP that is close coupled, and 3 Hornby Pullman coaches that have the mechanism in place but it is incorrectly set up, perhaps they used an HO scale mechanism and it is just too small to work properly.
@Ballinalower That is what I thougth , it took me long enough to get the hang of 9, as far as couplings go, yes I agree they are next to usless,, a lot of modellers convert to Kato couplings , it is something that I want t get round to doing , some time.
@howarth004 Yes! It took me ages to get used to Power Director 9. Even now I use Windows Live Movie Maker for simple editing jobs, and only go into PD9 when I have a complicated job. As for couplings: if the rolling stock has NEM coupler boxes it is a simple matter of unplug and plug in Fleischmann, Roco or Maerklin (Which will couple with Hornby couplers) or Kadee couplers, if not then I guess you have to screw in a Kadee box. Good luck.
Its good to see the latest on the layout Dave.Very impressive as expected. Glad all is running well and you are keeping up to date with the latest kit!
I absolutely detest polystyrene (the sound of it), but will need plenty for my racing track. Looks like I will invest in the wire cutter to save me a lot of heartache.
good to see your videos back in the limelight its looking good your layout must never get boring its soo big keep us updated on your progress good stuff and thumbs up
great video i am building one on a smaller l shape but the preform for the tunnels is a good idea witch i may use as its my first layout. thank you for shareing
ps hope the wife gets better soon i hear lots of tea and biccies is a sure fire cure:)
if i were you id get a better voltage for the hotwire i made a homemade one with a simple frame and some hotwire material from an old heater and i use a 16v source to power it and it cuts like a hot knife in butter very well actualy
Thanks for that Dave, there's a great deal of work in what you're doing, and it's looking great....what a wonderful thing to do during these cold Winter days....Hope she that must be obeyed is coming along...Best wishes...Bob
Good to see you back again, looks like lots of work but coming along. I am glad to hear that your wife is getting better. That styrofoam cutter is great. Blessings!
nice to have you back dave, that foam cutter is good i seen one of them for sale but couldnt find anyone on you tube who had used one so didnt know how it worked but its bloody good, thanks for the demo m8 , ohh and can i ask where do you get that walling m8, hope your wife is getting better as well dave, cheers ...hugh
@wattass7 Cheers Hugh, I recomend the cutter, it saves a lot of mess and makes it a lot easier getting the foam cut to size. that walling is what I am waiting for, I get it from International Models on the web, I think they get it form Germany, but seem to have run out , so it is holding me up a bit , the wife is comming on leaps and bounds now, think we shall have her walking unaided in a couple of weeks.
Great effort Dave given the work you have to do , liked the hot wire cutter . Did you get that plaster bandage from the hospital , sure it NHS on the packet !!!!!!!!! Phil
@REGWARNE12 Thanks Phil, yes got to save money , let the DHSS help me out with supplies ?? That cutter is a God send though , trying to vac up bits of foam is a nightmare , non at all now .

You have commented on my setup a while ago, and as you know i am new to the hobby, the part that worrys me are the point motors. Whats your opinion on surface mounted motors? Are they a no no? Would the ruin a layout. Im up for the challange of everything else, just dont want the agro of point motors! What do you think?
jasonandjoesrailway 1 month ago
@jasonandjoesrailway Hi jason, I use the peco surface mounted points, but find that when used with Peco points they need a higher voltage to push them over, so I use Hornby points which are slacker, Maybe isf you do not use a points regulator they will work better on the Peco points ,as that reduces the amout of electric , in my opinion .
