I've seen video of the complete speech by Mrs Hamer somewhere. Her story and that of her friends and neighbors struggle to vote is moving, sad, and ultimately inspiring. Does anyone know if the complete testimony is online? I think it's important for all of us to see, given the current drive to restrict voting rights again.
ya I wanted to hear it too, it's probably somewhere out there. check your local library, preferably a university like USC or Harvard, that has a bunch of libraries, and I bet you'll find it. post if it's open source.
LOL damn, did you peep how they cut her off in the middle of her speech?...SMH... DAMN, my people was gettin no love, that's why I thank GOD for her and so many other activist during this time...
@dal4018@vivascargill she TRIED--but he was not seeing anyone-=she may have met him once before I don't know--she did know Ben Davis (a great man always forgotten) who bailed her out of jail for protesting Gone with the WIND--you know there is a theory J edgar hoover poisoned him just a theory--his biographer mentions it--but all the records are destroyed.
@vivascargill Thanks Viva I was never a fan of Gone With The Wind.I always said it was glorified slave movie.Excuse me for asking who was Ben Davis and why would J.Edgar "Fruit Loop" Hoover wanted him dead?
@dal4018 Ben Davis came from a wealthy black family--he elected to join the cpusa to defend the scottsboro boys--he was a great friend of Paul's--he lost all his wealth--in fact NYC in the end denied him a driver's licence--his story needs to be told. Hoover wanted him because he was both Black and red--Harry Belafonte and Ossie Davis (RIP) talk about this in a film called "Scandalize my name" about Paul and others--Ossie Davis was a great guy also!
Thanks Viva for the info on Danny Glover's book about Ned Glover and the real home of the slave laws its no wonder Ireland hates England with a passion.I 'am going to look up this man on google.Would like to see this man's lifestory on the movie screen who is good enough to play the role in your opininon?
@dal4018 ned cobb (sometimes called nate shaw) is his name (google hosea hudson npr Robin Kelly has a very interesting audio about Racism in Alabama in the 30's ) All God's Dangers is oral hisotry Ned Cobb could not read or write Danny Glover owns (I am pretty sure the rights to the film) BTW Hosea Hudson was a great man as well
@dal4018 I KNEW MRS HAMER A LITTLE BOB MOSES ALSO (HE WAS MY TEACHER IN SCHOOL) NO GREATER PERSON THAN MRS HAMER! LISTEN TO ROBIN KELLY MAYBE WE SHOULD WRITE DANNY GLOVER!! Also I DO own a film about Mrs. Hamer
@dal4018 everyday! especially March 14th the day she died. Even Bob Moses who I still talk to from time to time Even Paul Robesonas great as they were/are did not have that special "grace" Hard to explain but you know it when you see it I will tell you a story on your channel --about her.
@vivascargill Hey Viva go easy on Mr.Roberson I as a 6yrd old attended his wake held at Radio City Music Hall in '70.Another person who was in attendance was Angela Davis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@dal4018 I meant NO disrespect for Paul Robeson--I went to his funeral He was a man among men! when he was dying my mom who was very ill crawled out of her bed (they were in the same hospital) and begged to see him. I flew from Ca. for the funeral. I loved that man! If I seem to regard Mrs Hamer with special devotion it is probably because I met her because she defied her poverty. Brother Paul was a mighty leader I guess SNCC taught me to place faith in poor folk. Paul died in Jan '76
@Nicoleccsf Hey Nicole as stated before a movie should be made about this GREAT AMERICAN I think Mo Nique should get first dibs at playing this dream role.
@dal4018 yes! Danny Glover could do it ==she hated the North she loved Miss--despite the brutality the North id a WORSE!! Mrs Hamer pray for me a sinner
@vivascargill Yes Viva Mo'Nique do this role in her sleep and I feel the same way about the north.MOST FOLKS DON'T KNOW THE SLAVE LAWS USED TO CONTROL US IN THE SOUTH WERE MADE IN NY IN THE 1700'S
@dal4018 yes I think the world must know about the great woman! actuatually the slave laws came from England ( around 1688) against the Irish then became used against Black People!! Danny Glover owns the rights to a book about a great man Ned Cobb who organized in the 1930's "All God's Dangers" He was a sharecropper
I do have a movie about Mrs. Hamer!! The North! ugh! Chicago 1919 New York during the civil war -and most of the abolitionists from Boston were racists!
