I have got a Dodge ram 1500 with the 5.7 HEMI. I just want to know how well it will pull a camper in the mountains. I just bought a Jaco Jay Flight 6700 pound dry weight. I plan to go up Black Mountain with it in July.

Ecoboost only has 365hp. Nice motor, but will it hold up in the future? It's the only thing keeping me from buying one. I just traded my 2011 F150 FX4 with the 5.0 for a 2011 Ram 1500 sport with the 5.7 hemi. The 5.0 is a peice of shit, and just not enough towing power to tow my boat. That's why i went with the Ram. I've driven the ecoboost and it's very impressive, but it's in it's first year.
@etr174 : I think you need to do a bit more research before you make a statement like that. You may be partial to Chrysler because your dad works there, but the EcoBoost is a far superior engine. No one has anything like it, I don't see a 3.6L in a Ram. The EcoBoost out pulled the Hemi 5.7 Dodge with a 3.92 gear ratio - Ford did there homework on this one, and is clearly far superior to any other auto maker.

i have an 08 1500 ram qc hemi 4x4 with minor mods to include intake tube, jba shorty headers, magnaflow muffler w/resonator still on, and superchips tune, my recent trip to colorado from sw ok i averaged 11 mpg towing 4 4x4 4,wheelers on a tandum axle car hauler,and lot of junk in the trunk, it weighed a the co op 11800lb and it pulles pretty easly, and it will run Raton pass both sides 70-75 mph and its steeper than 6% grade, ford are weak, but id have to give ford a little on the ecoboost
Plus all of you other guys who say the Eco Boost can beat the RAM, GO OUT ON YOUR OWN AND TAKE A TEST AND PUT IT ON YOUTUBE AND THEN THINK TWICE ABOUT THE ECO-BOOST. I have an 03' Ram 1500 Hemi and 03' Ram 2500 V10 and both trucks can still Burn Rubber!!!

Very un-professional test you got going here. Check out the Ford site and see the REAL test with Mike Rowe. Cmon guys, really? you can honestly think the Ram 1500 can out tow a F150? If its just Dodge pride you have thats cool but you have to admit that the F150 is a better truck all around.Dodge comes in last in performance along with the muscle cars. @MrHuntercwd This video was uploaded two years before the new engines from Ford where available to the public. The 5.4 engine was used in this test. Neither engine is bad, just the Hemi out pulls the 5.4. I am sure the ecoboost and 6.2 would out pull the Hemi. The 5.0 probably would do better than the 5.4 but not the Hemi.
@roflzzzz1237 That test would have been impossible at the time this vehicle was made. This was a test of the 2 at the time. Simply put, the Dodge beat Ford then, do the same test now. Even if Ford won this time around, I would still take the dodge, more room, more comfort, better sound, and much more reliable... do not believe me, look at the stat's.
one other thing i forgot to say.towing capacity on our dodge they said was 10000 pounds.that dodge beast pulled a 16000 pound semi stuck in deep snow out more than once and did not spin 1 wheel .that truck hunkered down and freakin amazed us. go buy you a dodge. you wont regret it
we have 2009 dodge ram with mds 360.we freakin love our truck.chrysler did really do their home work on the borrowed ideas from mercedes benz.we recently took trip from dayton ohio to shreeveport louisiana towing a 2002 s10 crewcab hooked to a tow dolly.the tow/haul feature on the dodge ram worked great.no sway at all from tow dolly or s10 at 70 -75 mph.if your looking for a great truck that has hair on its nads then go buy a dodge ram.. ford and chevys suck buy a real truck

This video does not prove anything at all. A true test would have the same trailer with the same weight. Also, the trucks should have the similar rear end gearing so there is no advantage between the two.
the trailer the ford is towing is filles to the top with lead and weaghs 500,000 tons. thats why the dodge slightly out pulled it with its 15,500lb trailer
Not a scientific test by any means, I work in the automotive field & although I would agree that both trucks are very nice looking, the Ford is built to a much higher standard. I can't believe how quickly the new Dodge trucks start falling apart & having multiple issues. Besides the Dodge truck has a larger engine so what do you expect? Both trucks have their ups & downs but overall the Ford is hands down the better vehicle.
They don't show what happens after 10,000 miles when the Dodge is leaving pieces on the highway. no mention of fuel economy or quality. Imagine how disapointed the fiat boys will be when fords 3.5L V6 is kicking the hemi's ass.

I have them on my '09 Ram as well, they offer OEM tow mirrors for just about all the major half ton trucks on the market. What they fail to metion in this video is what gearing both vehicles have, that's makes a huge difference, again not making excuses for Ford, but yes, this videos are entertaining to watch.

While I own a 2010 Ram with the 5.7 Hemi, I am disappointed with the towing performance. No doubht the Dodge will outperform the F150 on highway towing (third and fourth gears are similar) but the smaller 5.4 will outperform the 5.7 from a dead stop. I found the problem lies in the transmission gearing selection. Ford's 1st and 2nd gear are 4.17 and 2.34 respectfully; Dodges are 3.0 and 1.67.

Very un-professional test you got going here. Check out the Ford site and see the REAL test with Mike Rowe. Cmon guys, really? you can honestly think the Ram 1500 can out tow a F150? If its just Dodge pride you have thats cool but you have to admit that the F150 is a better truck all around.Dodge comes in last in performance along with the muscle cars. They look nice but the numbers prove the performance is crappy to say the least.

@MrHuntercwd This video was uploaded two years before the new engines from Ford where available to the public. The 5.4 engine was used in this test. Neither engine is bad, just the Hemi out pulls the 5.4. I am sure the ecoboost and 6.2 would out pull the Hemi. The 5.0 probably would do better than the 5.4 but not the Hemi.

Even if Ford won this time around, I would still take the dodge, more room, more comfort, better sound, and much more reliable... do not believe me, look at the stat's.

one other thing i forgot to say.towing capacity on our dodge they said was 10000 pounds.that dodge beast pulled a 16000 pound semi stuck in deep snow out more than once and did not spin 1 wheel .that truck hunkered down and freakin amazed us. go buy you a dodge. you wont regret it

we have 2009 dodge ram with mds 360.we freakin love our truck.chrysler did really do their home work on the borrowed ideas from mercedes benz.we recently took trip from dayton ohio to shreeveport louisiana towing a 2002 s10 crewcab hooked to a tow dolly.the tow/haul feature on the dodge ram worked great.no sway at all from tow dolly or s10 at 70 -75 mph.if your looking for a great truck that has hair on its nads then go buy a dodge ram.. ford and chevys suck buy a real truck

This video does not prove anything at all. A true test would have the same trailer with the same weight. Also, the trucks should have the similar rear end gearing so there is no advantage between the two.

Not a scientific test by any means, I work in the automotive field & although I would agree that both trucks are very nice looking, the Ford is built to a much higher standard. I can't believe how quickly the new Dodge trucks start falling apart & having multiple issues. Besides the Dodge truck has a larger engine so what do you expect? Both trucks have their ups & downs but overall the Ford is hands down the better vehicle.

@MrJOEYTIGER Although (As a Mopar guy, but does own a Ford with the 4.6 V8) this video seems doctored a little bit, that Dodge Ram is a 1500 Laramie with the optional tow mirrors. I have them on my '09 Ram as well, they offer OEM tow mirrors for just about all the major half ton trucks on the market. What they fail to metion in this video is what gearing both vehicles have, that's makes a huge difference, again not making excuses for Ford, but yes, this videos are entertaining to watch.

While I own a 2010 Ram with the 5.7 Hemi, I am disappointed with the towing performance. No doubht the Dodge will outperform the F150 on highway towing (third and fourth gears are similar) but the smaller 5.4 will outperform the 5.7 from a dead stop. I found the problem lies in the transmission gearing selection. Ford's 1st and 2nd gear are 4.17 and 2.34 respectfully; Dodges are 3.0 and 1.67.

What a stupid comparison ... splitting hairs . So the Dodge has a little more power . GVW #s dont mean anything and these guys doing the test are obviously so biased its sickening . The bottom line is, both trucks towed alot of weight at a very respectable speed up a steep grade . In reality if you are needing to tow these kinds of loads on a regular basis, and 60 mph isnt fast enough for you ... than but a diesel 1ton .
