  • Damn it, we were bloody good then. Great memories. :)

  • Thanks for the upload! This reminds me of the good days; when football was about football, not about wags, big sponsorship deals, Sky subscriptions, foreign imports, prawn sandwiches and billionaires! Luton had some brilliant players back then, such as Mick Harford, Brian Stein, Ricky Hill, and Steve Foster etc... I remember watching this game, after finishing my paper round! I was about 12 years old. Good memories, RIP Ray Harford!

  • i just looked through my old vids that i turned into mp4s and there were the 2 luton finals in their entirity - i have just watched the second half again - absolute gold. the adverts are funny as well - a guy with the biggest mobile car phone you have seen in your life and a vauxhall for less than 9 grand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thanx for the memories this vid has provoked. I was at wembley that day - and it was the most amazing second half in history. I went down to the local pub - the chequers in westoning - a couple of days after the match and andy dibble was there - and i was able to relive some of those magic moments with him. later that week i wasin the bookies in flitwick and there was brian stein - again i was able to chat about the game (my own private post match interviews - unbelievable!!!

  • Luton Town's greatest moment. :)

Let's hope we get even a little close to this success. :)

  • This brought back some great memories

  • Gabala FC recentley beat Luton Town FC 3-2 thats sweet revenge for Tony Adams!!!!

  • lmao... it was good to see a small club get it's day. bar arsenal, southern england is a footballing desert.

  • What has happened to Luton in the last years is a real shame. Nobody should have allowed such a historical club fall so low.

  • What memories!! RIP David Preece, Ray Harford and the great David Rocastle. I was 7 years old and watched the match in my full Luton strip then went out and played in the garden re-enacting the game.

Saw Nigel Winterburn in my local Tesco about 6 months ago and had to restrain myself from hugging him. Who the hell let him take that penalty?.....and why is he playing at Right Back?

  • I was there as a Luton fan. Bit of trouble during the match as Arsenal fans had come into the Luton area. Still have the hatters gorilla , it still works !

  • what a final well done luton

  • I dont support either these sides, but i remember watching this final as a kid, was totally shocked when Stein backed that late late winner!!!!!Really great game, and nobody gave Luton a hope before the final.

  • what a super game of football

  • Pure scum how the mighty hatters have fallen lol

  • In Italy we saw the game on TMC

  • Luton Town are dying!!

    hahahahahahahahaha

  • Youtube really has everything!

  • go hatters, fuck haters!

  • oh how the mighty have fucking fallen...

'up the fucking league we go!'

  • as a complete neutral, I can't help but feel the FA had more glamour and importance back then. It was a essential Saturday viewing unlike now. It was a cracking game this...

  • I remember the BBC Evening News reporting that night saying this match to be the greatest cup final ever. It was a superb match filled with exciting counter attacking football from both sides.

  • watch that dive, lawl

  • Its great to see Mick Harford celebrating next to Ray Harford in the dug-out when the third goal goes in. Little did he know that he would be celebrating in a similar vein in almost the exact same spot 21 years later.

Oh and RIP Preece & Harford.... Luton legends who will never be forgotten

  • preece was a midfield general!

  • I wonder what Wenger would think of Arsenal's set piece drill for the first goal. "You pass it to me and I'll just chip it into the mixer and we'll see if we can get a scrap". How times have changed.

  • I remember watching it myself when I was seven at the time. That save by the Luton Town goalkeeper perhaps kept his team in the match.

  • I remember this Final. a real upset. There was a funny 3 year sequence in the finals then.

Arsenal won in 87, lost in 88 to Luton. Luton reached the 89 Final and lost to Forest. Forest also reached a successive Final in 90, but unlike the other 2, they retained the trophy.

Great match though especially the finish

  • A bit like a recent sequence, Chelsea beat arsenal in 07 lost to Spurs in 08 who lost to utd in 09 who play Villa in this years final.

  • Yep, didn't realise it until you pointed it out.

  • I was ten when i watched this great final what footie is all about

  • Would be nice to get hold of some more luton games on dvd

  • what great days!

  • Luton have reported Arsenal to the FA for poaching one of our players

  • and the FA dont give a flying fuck even if that was true

  • i wasnt there but omg i wish i was watched this alot on way to luton games on the coach it shows wat wer cappable of no matter what other pricks say

    arsenal are sick too ;)

  • If they're sick they should see a f-cking doctor. What a wanky little pikey word that is!

  • i was there.great stuff!

  • Is this final available on VHS or DVD??

  • luton should play for the womens non-league team

  • I'd pay to see you in a show your so funny...

  • nice cross from Ashley Grimes on the last goal - I didn't know he had gone to Luton after Man U

  • lol luton, BLUE SQUARE PREMIER TOSSERS !

  • luton got deducted 30 points at the beginning of the last campaign! btw... ur 35! i thought you might have been 15 or so judging by that stupid comment! lol Why are you watching a luton video anyway James?

  • come on u hatters

  • One of the best Wembley finals. I remember watching this on ITV. Love Brian Moore's commentary.

  • harfords not dead

  • Ray harford is dead. your thinking of mick who's valiantly doing the guvnor job for us now. one of the best games ive ever seen (slightly biased)

  • Great video. Amazing final. I was a trophy luton fan that season, spurs by birth and that was my first final at Wembley. Heresy to admit this ... but thought Arsenal team of that era was excellent ... as proved the following season. Sad that Ray Harford and Rocastle are no longer with us.

  • ...and David Preece.

  • excellent! probably the best day of my life.

  • Luton beat Arsenal?

wow but i bet thats when luton had good players before they sold em off

  • im an arsenal fan but that was a 5 star vid great game

  • Classic vid of a classic final back in the day when cup finals like this meant something! Shame to see the fa have crippled a club like luton nowadays. Hope they bounce straight back. Your 40 thousand fans were a credit to your club and town last week at Wembley, congratulations! All the best!

  • Although Chesterfield need the win on monday i really hope its not us who put the final nail in your coffin and send you down. Your fans were fantastic at Saltergate when we beat you 1-0 to stay up. I hope you bounce straight back.

  • well done luton for the great win in the 'paint pot'. 40,000 luton fans at wembley.. fantastic. long live luton and their remarkable fans.

  • Cmon you Hatters! at least we won something this season!

  • Not even a Luton fan but this brings back great memories!

  • As a Watford fan, I simply hate Luton and wish they hadnt won that game. However, I think its sad that that couldnt happen today and clubs like Luton would never beat Arsenal in the League Cup fial.

  • final*

  • its a shame to see the position that Luton are in now.... Hope you will bounce back soon!

  • what a day!!..pity on the penalty decision i turned the vhs off !! great times !!

  • wat a save for that penalty

  • LUTON TILL I DIE!!!!!!!

  • dont reply to comments made ages ago.

And erm.... i dont wanna die?

  • LUTON TILL I DIE

  • i was so upset toward the end i turned the vhs of to stop recording!! damn fool i am!! so great though!!

  • I found this post after reading an article about Luton current situation (-6 pts in the 4th div)

I must say this game is a bit heroism show by Luton players.

  • great tackle

  • i was there great stuff

  • Come on m8 you know its called football, your not american

  • Does anyone have any coverage of the semi-finals against Oxford United? if so pbe good to see them.

  • what a great day what a supeb team.....we needed a new stadium way back then and we might have be able to grow, but it never happened after so many false promises of one .Unfortuneatly since then we had been run by Champagne charlie's with big idea's but only have beer money in there pockets.Come on Luton...

  • Just come across this

I was there to, great day I still got the monkey they were selling and it still works !

    Great 2/3 yrs then

We had to sort out a few Arsenal fans up how end

  • Best day of my life ... the atmosphere at Wembley was unbelievable (the emotional roller coaster was unbearable - especially at 2-1 down then conceding the Penalty) ... no other sport can come close to soccer for drama, excitement and unpredictability. I am praying for a miracle this season as we try and stay in the league from a start of -30 points! Luton forever!

  • The Rocastle "penalty" is one of the most blatant dives I've ever seen this side of Jurgen Klinsmann. Truly dreadful gamesmanship.

  • im an arsenal fan and i was at this game. mixed emotions after watching it again. i was distraught at the time - a perfect summers day and a great comeback, inspired by martin hayes all ruined by a missed pen and some awful defending by gus ceaser. it was a very long journey home!

on the other hand i think its truly awful just what has happened to luton in these last twenty years. what a fantastic side they were with some terrific players.

  • Hey fella i have been Luton all my life and that was one of the best days of my life. Thanx for your nice comments about my club thay have got into a huge mess and will be years b4 they ever get out of it.Painful thought that is.

  • @paulweller

Cheers mate, we all feel the same

  • @paulweller it was a dive not a penalty

  • @paulweller as a luton fan,I appreciate this.

I think The Fa ad FL have chosen to make a mockery out of us,rather than a example or whatever.

We have proven we are worthy of being in the FL and it is very poor judgement,We have been a team for 125 years. We WILL be back,We are a terrfic side, and will have the players, and prove those who feel we aren't there, WRONG!

    COYH,luton til i die

  • i remember that i went 2 thaa 1 iin 2008 or 2007 Lol

  • We luv you luton !

  • great day !! i remember being in the old labour club in town then getting on the double decker to wembly i was 10 and i remember it like yesterday.

  • were luton town

    we'll never die!

  • R.I.P Ray Harford.

  • wot a day 2 remember

  • I'm an Arsenal fan can't believe this is 20 years ago shame what has happened to LUTON in that time..

  • Cant blieve u had 2 start the season wiv -30 points, gd luck, i hope u stay up

  • fucking get in! 2-0 against plymouth! couldnt beleive it when my sister texted me last tuesday when i was on holiday in greece! no probs getting back them 30 points, bring on the second round of the carling cup!

  • what a great commentator

  • There is a conspiracy against luton town fc by the fa. they do not want luton town to be in business. in 88 alot of the top boys in the fa lost big money in bets. brian stein never got picked for england because of same reason! hatred runs through the in the FA! look at 2:44 what a dive! everyone in the FA wants the hatters to go down the same as they did with wimbledon! What the FA needs is a revolution! i fucking hate the FA! cunts!!! ill fucking bomb the HQ if i were muslim!

  • I am not a luton or arsenal or manchester united fan BUT I honestly cnt believe TheOld1Two had the nerve to say that C.Ronaldo sucks!!!

Does he know what league Luton are in !!!

  • It was one of the first finals i ever saw on the telly and even though im not a fan of arsenal or luton having seen it again on this video 20 years later it was one of the best Wembley finals ever, nice as well uve kept the original ITV Sport coverage with the late great Brian Moore and ex Luton manager David Pleat.

  • Once when Arsenal still had English players......

  • Luton rule the whole world of football.

    P.S: C.Ronaldo sucks!

  • Born in Luton and always been a fan, their greatest day ever.

  • Iam not a luton fan, but in the 80's i used to love watching them play, (win or lose) in the old division 1. They had some classic encounters with Everton in the cup, and against Man City when Raddy Antic scored a vital winner in last minute to avoid relegation, Ill never forget David Pleat running and skipping on the pitch celebrating at the end. I liked them best when the team included Hill, Moss and Stein. Great memories.

  • hi there

  • I am looking to get this game on DVD or VHS north america format for my dad, can anyone help. thanks

  • First went to see Luton in 1986 & been a fan since, I remember this game like it was yesterday thanks for putting this up. I call myself a Hibby Hatter in tribute to the two greatest teams on earth Hibs & Luton, by the way, remember a wee winger called Mickey Weir you signed in 1988 from us, He was that much of a Hibby and was so homesick he only lasted 4 months down there.

  • he plays on the left, he plays on the right, that boy brian stein made arsenal look shite!

  • im luton till i die im luton till i die i no i am im sure i am im luton till i die

  • Brilliant match - I used to have a tape of the whole match and watched it so much as a kid, love it!

  • we'll never die, we'll never die

the luton town will never die

    100 years of history

a luton fan i'm proud to be

  • What a BRILLIANT day at Wembley, I will never forget it. Hatters were awesome and no-one ever thought they would beat the mighty Arsenal!

  • Well done Luton.

  • One of the greatest cup finals in any competition ever.

    COME ON U HATTERS. NigRob

  • Please nick owen, bring back the glory days of Morcambe, i understand you have a debt/bank manager to please! We're all behind you Mr. Owen... all like you mr. Owen we love the luton! I understand why you had to let david bell go out on loan! He is a wage and he needs to be payed! And the money must come from somewhere! ALL the best Mr. Owen! And thankyou for saving "OUR" club! nially69 (Aged 22) :o) Up the owen!!!!!!!! UP THE 20/20!!!!!!!!!!

  • GO ON THE BOYS!LUTON TOWN!

  • Typical Arse dive for the penalty, great save from it. I have never seen this final, didn't watch as I assumed they were going to walk it, he didn't do a good job of lifting the trophy, was facing the wrong way.

  • im glad your goin babkrupt now,it was the worst day of my life

  • what a year for the underdogs of football 1988 was with Luton and Wimbledon winning the domestic trophies

  • Incidentally, i snogged Steve Foster's sister in Benidorm in 1993, and then bumped into her again in 1999 in London. Small world. I beleive her name is Emma.

  • This was one of the greatest games i had ever seen, i was 13 and a neutral. these were the days when finals really were classics, these days theyre just too technically coy and defensive, cos if the game is lost you lose a billion pounds. back then all you lost was pride...

  • Nice dive from Rocastle there! Good on Andy Dibble I say.

  • best match ever. i was 9 yrs old. i remember i literally cried my eyes out when Stein got the winner. C'mon you Hatters!!!!

  • Gus Caesar is a legend

  • An amazing match, even when you know the result you still doubt that it's going to happen ...

  • ashely grimes he was so slow but he ran straight past him how gd is tht i was at leyton orient and if we had some1 like brian stein 2 nok it into da net we would of won

  • wow luton beat arsenal

    that surprised me!

  • Dame I bet Luton Fans must be pissed that they team had such greats but now they waste team how sad. Lets nt 4get Liverpool have won the league cup more than any1.

  • great ball from da guy 2 set up stein 4 da first goal, dat was class, dis all happened a year b4 i was born, woteva happened 2 da club?

  • So numpty bollox... why are you watching Luton Video's?

  • k'off watford scum

  • excellent stuff.. rip david preece

  • oh look out... another silly bollox has a dig... why are you Watford boys watching luton videos? id just love to know ;o)

  • Still one more cup then watford have won. Fucking mug.

  • Classic. Pure nostalgia.

    12/12/07 -

    Luton 1 - 0 Nott. Forest

    Bring on the scousers ^_^

  • my dad was also ther and used to play for em they wer quite good lol hes got like 300 trophies :)

  • LOVE YOU LUTON!

  • Who says that nobody used to dive?! Rocastle left is leg behind and dived like a salmon there...!!

Teriffic game though. All of the ingredients necessary with a penalty save, 2 comebacks and a last-minute winner. Thanks for putting this up, haven't seen it for ages.

  • i make you right there fella

  • i was there ,its still best game ive ever been to ,oh great memeorys!

  • ye me dad was there too, he told me bout tha game

  • I can remember being really upset sitting there in my Arsenal kit at Wembley with my Dad. We beat Liverpool the year before as underdogs and were expected to smash Luton in this game! Good luck to them. Poor old Gus had a nightmare at the back. I cant believe only a year later we became Champions! I think this defeat helped put the iron in the team to win the title at Anfield the year after!

  • We hate watford we hate watford

  • My uncle is from Luton Town, and supported them as a boy

  • who stuck the ball in the arsenal net? BRUNO BRUNO STEIN!!! RIP PREECEY

  • That was a foul on the Arsenal defender, that would be a red card for the Luton striker in todays football !

  • Were they Spurs in disguise ?

  • doubt it

  • andy dibble and stein were legends for that game.I thought the header that dibble saved was better.

  • Ha. Whatever happened to Gus Caesar?

  • Fucking MIGs And Luton Till I Fucking Die!!!!Cmon You Hatters

  • hi i'm Andy Dibble and i will never forget this game.

  • Brilliant. I was 14 years old and the only Luton fan in my school. Brought back great memories.

  • Go on luton!!!!!

Fuckin hell. They've seriously one down now! They got relegated to league 1 (division 2)last season!

  • classic game

    terracing,vintage adidas,end to end,mostly british players.

  • I sat on the terraces NUMB for an hour afterwards, still cant believe we lost that game, fair play to Luton thou',they stuck in there and came out on top..RIP Rocky,Ray Brian and David.

  • Great memories. Remember kissing some girl when the equaliser went in, and then some big guy planted a smacker on me when Stein scored the winner. Sad so many involved have gone.

  • & RIP the Great Brian Moore commentating! The best of all time.

  • One of the great finals.

R.I.P. Rocky, David Preece, and Ray Harford.

  • I'm a die hard old oak roader....but now living in Buenos Aires. This clip is magic, I was shouting in my room even though I know what is going to happen. I saw Boca Juniors play last week - we would have given them a good game!

  • David Pleat sleeps with hookers!!!

  • im not a fan of EPL.... but you can stick your fucking arensal up your ass. good job Luton. even if it was 19 yrs ago.

  • Only lost because of Gus Caesar!

  • This game is my fondest childhood memory of football. So much to remember! Hope Luton will be back in premiership soon.

  • I just found this clip, tremendous, I was there to, thanks very much

  • Classic. There is no-one like Brian Moore.

Unfortunately there are plenty like David Pleat.

  • I was born in Luton, as well as my dad, he tells me the stories of him and the games hes went to with luton, but we are both liverpool fans, but we never forget our roots, and i love luton, but im ready for them to be promoted to the premiership, but the thing is, theyre too strong for league 1, not strong enough for premier league

  • great game (even though i'm a gooner)

  • Poor Gus Caesar. Written about hilariously and brilliantly by Nick Hornby.

  • Brian Moore, David Rocastle and now sadly David Preece are all no longer with us. RIP

  • a great day.i was there.thanks for sharing

  • Fantastic thank you so much for great memories

  • Those were the days

  • this is when football was football not about all the money and all that crap

  • four of my mates were Arsenal fans, I remember on the day how they laughed at me, so confident they were going to win, we went to wembley our seperate ways on the day, I remember so well when they were awarded the penalty (I still reckon he dived by the way)thinking Thats it,we have lost now, gotto face the lads later, even after that I still did not hink we would win, when the winner came it was total joy
