why is this so expensive ? you can buy a Prophet '08 for less... it's a cool interface to run their soft synths, should run about a grand with what looks like a nice keyboard, the sound is very thin and sterile, unlike the Arturia Laboratory that I have...very flexible, but just overpriced...
Very Sweet but, how is a hot laptop running VSTs in Ableton controlled by a nice ($600) midi controller (my portable set-up) any different, other than the laptop setup is a shitload cheaper? Am I missing something this thing can do?
@ITCXTC What I like about hardware synths is the dedicated physical knobs (instead of turning virtual knobs with a mouse). And I like the "Frankensynth" options: Routing one synth's oscillator through another synth's filter etc. Whether that's worth the price tag? Hmmm...
ugggh...yet ANOTHER full sized synth with an external PSU...what the hell is wrong with synth designers today? DSI does the same lame thing: power-strip space-hogs that inevitably get lost or beat-to-hell after 10+ gigs.
I didn't express myself correctly, sorry if I hurt your beautiful feelings.
What I'm saying is that synth makers should use analog circuitry in their products (mainly analog filters)...not just PURE digital DSP analog simulation. I became sensitive when it's about synth sounds so I too often hear "plasticity" coming from new synth due to serious lack of subharmonics (I owned more than 20 synths). I just feel sorry that it's so hard to develop rich sounding synths. Peace
In my ears it was a great disappointment...just another plastic monster VA...almost any vintage synth sounds better, I hate to say...stop making VA synths without warm analog filters!
Origin is a great sounding synth and easy to use but it has bugs. For a synth that has been on the market for over 2 years there are sure a lot of bugs crawing around inside this unit. Problems I had were cut off notes, jerky encoders and screen freezing. Be cautious very buggy, not 100% stable.
Seems pretty close to the design of my Korg Radias, interesting synth, the modular capabilities are what intrigued me most. Although for that why not use Reaktor? The joystick modulator looks flimsy. I feel like an X/Y touch pad is a better solution for this type of thing, although it does have the ribbon controller. I would like to play with one. It's hard for me not to arbitrarily desire anything shiny and knob laden with flashing led's, I'm such a gear whore.
its a GREAT SYNTH. the folks posting on here however are truly amazing.
nalverde12.....so should ALL HUMANS ON THE PLANET SPEAK ENGLISH? im a Texan and proud american but fellow americans like you are giving the rest of the world that we are an arrogant and ignorant bunch...thanks alot

Wwoooowww!! really cool! The playing on the ribbon itself is something I've been looking at for some time. Too bad he didn't show the dual aftertouch, I still don't know what that is.
The Origin is the 21st Century Moog Modular. Sweetwater, keep me one!

@ITCXTC: Exactly. Very uninspiring, plastic sound here. I have free vst's that sound more interesting.

Those protruding feet are pure genius! You're right it's a combo screen panel/tie rack.
DrChopz 1 year ago
How strange feet protude from the screen panel, couldn't they automatically fold and blend into the screen when in upright position ?
Source of catching clothes, I think?

@Arthur60 Yeah, you're right. That's the only thing ugly about it. Maybe they'll fix it on the next version.
