My question is " WHEN". It is an older neglected tree. And will I get fruit this year. Last year I found it in some bushes at an 1850 old homestead. It had one peach on it. When do I trim and when do I furtilize. I live in central Ma.
Thanks for the good vidio, enjoyed the music and down to basic's for the beginner. No talking was needed, but feel I got good information. Now I'm off to prune my 2 peaches. phnwv

With 12 fruit trees four of which are peach from first year to over twenty years (neglected) I can hardly restrain myself from picking at them as soon as the leaves drop. How early is TOO early?
I thought the information was delivered in a wonderful format. I loved the music and energy. I'm a total novice at pruning and growing anything so I hope the info applies to peach trees in CA. Thanks,
My trees were grown quite tall in the nursery .... about 8 ft ...the trunk is only 3 inches in diameter. I'm going to try to get them down to a height of 5 to 6ft. Thanks this was great, hopefully mine will be okay.Fingers crossed.
Thanks for a great video...and different. What time of the year is this...I see snow and no leaves on any trees. Is it late winter/early spring? Just want to be sure I prune at the right time.
Thank you. This tree is about 6 ft tall and has some broken limbs, and about 4 fruits on it- 2 of them on the "leader" itself- it has a few branches but the leaves are mostly on the top head of the tree- but no solid framework of four scaffolds- I just don't know how to "save" it. What if I cut it down by half? The trunk I would say is about 3-4 inches around. Thank you for any advice!

I would suggest no it is not advisable. The problem is there may be no viable buds if headed-back too low and what's left of the tree will die. The bigger the diameter of the trunk the more likely this is to happen (and vice-versa). Good luck. JMCEXTMAN
yes, helpful to me too, though I had an idea of what to do already. I'm going out in a few minutes and prune my peach tree(es?). I noticed this one tree, kind of out of the way, neglected, last year and figured I'd bring it back this year. it's an alberta peach...white inside, I think.
How tall should I let my tree grow? On what it depends? Are there any advantages/disadvantages to tall trees as far as harvest size and fruit size is concerned?
Tree height is defined by ease of management. Most people prefer a tree which is no more than 8' tall. Higher yields may be obtained per tree if trees are spaced further apart and allowed to grow somewhat taller.
Two thumbs up! I notice he left the length on the remaining branches. I am also concerned about branches splitting off the trunk is they are that long. My grandfather used to put braces under the branches, but I discovered the split too late this year.
Will this keep my peaches from splitting most of the time ?I have one lower branch that get's in the way pretty big is that ok to cut?Last question when is best time to cut I live in PA. Thanks if anyone would reply would be appreciated !
This was really instructive. I have a peach tree that dropped all but one peach this year. I'm going to give this a try this fall/winter. Thanks - Eric
This is a really effective video.....not very entertaining, but totally effective.......it really made me concentrate on watching exactly what you do.....spoken instructions probably would've distracted my attention from exactly what you were doing. But I had to turn the mute on because I found the music was distracting & I really didn't like the music, anyway. Thank you for sharing this, it's really helpful!!!!
A deep bow from the conductor/trimmer at the end was absolutely called for. Comments would be great but I will watch a couple of times before grabbing up the clippers to finish pruning that I started a couple of weeks ago. Did miss the bow though.

It sure would have been helpful if the expert had verbally explained what he was doing instead of the music.

Prune in April. Prune hard to grow new wood, but you need to have light.

Is it advisable for a tree that has grown tall in the nursery and even has a few fruit on it to be headed down to 2-3ft to "start all over" again?

thanks...I've read several helpful articles but this simple video really put it all together for me.

my landscaper nicked the p
base of my peach tree. as a result there is a yellow ooze coming out.what do i need to do?please help!!
angelovinluca 2 years ago
whats the diameter of the tree? how big was the nick? it will probably heal itself up fine, if its huge/detrimental you might bridge graft it.

drastically it tends to ilness. I'm not an expert tho.
Yes it would have been better that the guy talked to understand more step by step.
