Many people ask if the wrestler dies at the end. The script leaves that decision to us. Thats a good narrating technique. Only bad commercial movies or stories leave no decisions to the audience because they are escapist films not meant for thinking, only for customer consuming and profit.

@FuckWorkdays Well a lot of it is theater, there's a lot of fake blood and fake scars. Even skin grafts that can hold the fake blood until you want it popped. The staples did seem very real, though I've never heard of a wrestling match which involved staples in that method.

Agreed. The movie itself is good, but not great. Definitely worth seeing, but what sets it apart is Rourkes performance. Without that this is a typical down on his luck movie. I've seen most of the other awards contenders this year, with the exception of Gran Torino, and I have to say that Rourkes performance deserves an academy award. Truly amazing.
