  • We now see programs on History Channel which present basic affirmations of what Ingersoll taught in the 19th Century. We have much more knowledge now, and understand how and when the Bible was written, and how its books were selected and chosen. Constantine's committee determined the books, and pronounced them "inspired", soon after he had murdered his wife and son. Thank you, epaminodas.

  • Two secular 'gods'-Government as savior Psychiatry (drugs as savior)

  • Thanks for this series, bt why in your playlist do you start with the beginning, but then have all the other segments arranged backwards? 1-10-9-8-7, etc. Maybe good to fix that?

  • i tried to fix it a couple times but i never got it correct - so i just gave up :(

PS - glad you enjoyed it :)

  • The Bible says the earth is flat. And that the sun revolves around the earth. And that humans are made of dirt. And that snakes and donkeys talk. And that insects have 4 legs. And that bats are birds. And that Pi = 3.00 (rather than the actual 3.1416...) And that animals appeared AFTER man but BEFORE woman. I have a hard time getting excited about a book with this level of accuracy. Ingersoll rocks!
  • I love it. I really do. Thanks so much. I don't think there's anything I enjoy more than food for thought!

  • Good question. I'll let you know when I found out. But remember: Claims and statements don't become fact just because alot of people say they are true. That's why I ask for references. ;)

  • lol certainly - i just wanted to put this online (ingersoll's considered one of the fathers of modern agnosticism) as a reference so ppl can check out a different viewpoint.

  • It says "we know" so many things. And how do we know these things? Does Ingersoll's text have references for those statements? Thanks ;)

I love the book of Esther, by the way. Maybe I don't remember it correctly. I don't see how it is cruel.

  • He doesnt provide references but scholars line up on his side (i said scholars not apologists). Check out the links i attached in the description box

Ultimately it's a judgment call - how much evidence do you need to believe somthing?

  • In any case, this was a lecture. How many lectures have you attended where you received a bibliography and series of end notes? If you are not pleased with the scholarship, look it up for yourself.

  • I was asking because I was curious since claims were being made. When I've delivered speeches for informative purposes, I always had to give some sort of reference to support my statements. I was satisfied with epaminodas' answer to my question and I find his videos interesting. Sorry if my question came across as offensive. Thanks ;)

  • You weren't offensive, though it occurs to me now that I might have been. If so, I apologize. Were you giving speeches in the context of school (college)? If so, you probably did have to provide notes to whomever was judging your speech. But Ingersoll typically spoke in public lecture halls and Chataqua tents, where people went to soak up his wisdom. They would not have been checking him out. To my knowledge, much of what he said regarding authorship of the bible can be backed up.

  • Thank you so much for your reply. No need to apologize. Communication can be hindered and intentions misinterpreted when all we have to rely on are written words. ;)

Yes, my speeches were for speech tournaments in college. Thanks, also, for the additional information on Ingersoll. It makes him even more interesting.

  • Well, the bible sure doesn't present any references to support its statements. In fact, if we model our statements in the same way the bible does, than we don't need to offer ANY references and everyone should believe every word without question. LOL. Ingersoll is awesome.

  • Ir's all a damned cult revolving around a fairytale.
