Apple zealots may not realize this but 1.4 million iPod applications pales in comparison to the number of applications that can run on a netbook.

There are more than 1.4 million flash applications... and that's just flash. Netbooks can run Windows or Linux and install real software. iPad can't.

Yes, less software titles because you are restricted from using anything that doesn't come from the app store. Believe it or not there are millions of applications that are not sold through the apple app store... and that's not even counting flash applications. Netbooks are real computers with real operating systems.

Agreed this will not "shake up" the industry. The types of game applications on these devices, be it the iphone'esq capacitive or the previous none-capacitive screens (available since the 90s), are only so simple (although much fun) cannot and will not shake or compete with a different market segment. It will, and it did, move the focus of game developers to the iphone which should be no surprise, however, the advanced gaming platforms as the PSP and DSI are in an industry segment of their own.

I don't think this will "shake up" the gaming industry. People who play games on their iphones are people who play when they're bored, and they're just simple games like tetris or bejewled. People who play hours a day on their xbox 360 or PS3 aren't going to drop their HD games for a 99¢ game.

Personally, it's not really going to be a new era for gaming, because, no one buys Apple computers for gaming, much less are their even games for OS X based computers.

It's just a tablet computer, with OS X, it's a MacBook without a keyboard, and the tablet is not a new technology, tablets have been around since 2001, if not earlier.
