  • That sure looked like Barbara Stanwick in frame 1:21----possibly a still from the celluloid THE G-STRING MURDERS of 1943.....the sheer majesty of classic and vintage burlesque is in the monumentalization of the female human statuary and the grace of movement. The tragedy is that true sensuality has become a thing of the dear, dead, dim and quite distant past.

  • the hey day of burlesque. gypsy rose lee in the book "american rose" mentions how men came into clubs with newspapers, during her performance she could hear the rustling of the papers over their laps. think about it... of course there were classier joints, were politicians and mobsters hung out. is that gypsy at 2:23? 1:15 is barbara stanwyck.

  • Yesterday we had class, even Burlesque was done in a classy way! Today, everything is simply vulgar.

  • Great song! And I love the pics in this vid... exquisite! Five stars xD

  • What amazes me is that many of the old burlesque dancers would be labled as "overweight" today. They look healthy to me. I think the stork dropped me of in the wrong time because I'm what could be called a "curvy cutie".

  • performance art flips minds

  • Gorgeous ! x

  • cool vid!

  • Thank you, it is a very interesting video,I put it on my favorite videos.

  • Thanks, redrosebutterfly13. The lovely ladies shown here know what a real striptease is. I wish I could go back in time and see a live performance from Ann Corio or Margie Hart or Gypsy Rose Lee. I'd be one of those guys biting his nails in the front row as they "take it off", wondering how much I'm going to get to see. The unknown aspect of what will and won't be revealed make this art form really sexy and exciting.

  • Thank you so much! I'd love to see the burlesque shows of the old days as well. It's nice to see a man appreciate being teased a little! lol ; D

  • Why can't we go back to the day when Burlesque was an actual art,not just wearing skimpy clothing, like the Pussy Cat Dolls, thanks for the tour!!! 5 stars

  • Thank you! I'm glad that there are women like Dita Von Teese who are bringing back retro glamour and the art of burlesque.

  • me,too! She has a classy way about her,too.

  • I agree!

  • That was fantastic!! Completly unconventional and like a trip thru the looking glass. I loved it,like I like all of your videos.I ahd completly forgotten about burlesque, and remembered it as I was looking at the home page. Faved this! The music was so fitting, and Burlesque gave way to strippers, and pole dancers, but they didn't take their cloethes off,did they? It was all playing upon the imagination of the people watching,I think. I loved this!!!!

  • Thank you!! ; ) I believe that burlesque differs in some ways from pole dancing and stripping (though pole danicing and stripping evolved from classic burlesque). Burlesque is more about the theatrics, the costumes, and involves more personality and performace. Many burlesque performers still use stripping as part of their acts though but I think in a more teasing and playful way. I think burlesque is a way for women to have fun with their femininity and sexuality.

  • playful and teasing was the wordsa I was groping for late last night when i ahd seen this. Burlesque is a classy and fun way to express oneself, where as stripping and pole dancig,to me, is just too over-the-top.

I love glamour, and way back when. Thank you Dita Von Teese ( tease??) for bringing the glamour back!
