Wow man that's a really nice sound! I'm diggin' the samples too. I found with really cheap over heads if you have nice enough cymbals and good placement they can sound rad so you're on the money there! nice to see someone who knows what they're doing!
@Nickeoso actualyl more so than that, i would personally like to know how your uploads maintain the sound quality, is there a cerain way you compress for youtube?
@Nickeoso I've tested a few different compression algorithms and I simply found that Windows Media Audio 9 works great for YouTube. I'm not exactly sure now but I know I'm not running under 192 kbit so as long as you're above that when encoding, I think it'll be fine.
@StudioErdo wow bud thanks so much for the tip on the aidop codec, worked so good, almost cant notice the quality deteriorate, check it out for youself (in video response)
@BillyTalentRocks2010 Thanks, worked a lot on the sound and I will probably change it a little later but it's alright. Well, it's "enhanced" ;) It's a blend of my own kick and a sample. There is no kick in the world that sounds like that naturally, but with really good mics and drums it's possible to get a similar sound without resorting to blending with a sample. The drummer is more important than the gear though, never forget that.
@Knucklesmd Yeah it's my personal project but I don't have a name for it yet... it's been over 3 years since I started making music and I still don't have a name :) But I do have some inspiration and I think I'll find a name soon. Thank you very much!
@MandoBruh Nowhere because the album isn't finished yet. When it's out, you'll know :) There is "only" vocals left but it's slow right now. It's going to be kickass however..
@alet1032 I'll talk about the processing when the mixing time comes. I'm not going to reveal stuff before that. I will make another video soon to give you guys an update about what has happened lately but I can say right now that I currently have no singer but I'm working on collaborating with someone from abroad. We'll have to start over with the vocals but I'm sure it'll turn out great, stay tuned. :)
@mchunter7 It's one snare sample blended with my own snare. The reason for the blending is because the sample has a really nice thick attack and body so it "fills out" my snare perfectly. Most of the sound is my snare though, about 60-65% original mix and 35-40% sample.
@SuicideXiXsilence Thank you! Yes I will actually do that, it's all on the schedule :) In about 2 weeks I should be able to resume my work with music and making videos as I go. I have been busy with work over summer :(
@SuicideXiXsilence Well you can record anything with any mic but the results will be different. Of course you can record drums with vocal mics but depending on what sound you are aiming for, it may or may not turn out so good. There is no right or wrong, just try and experiment!
@sushiquad Hey Sushiquad! It's a Pearl Free Floating Maple snare, 14"x5,5" If I remember correctly. It has Evans Genera Dry Snare head and Evans Hazy 500 on the bottom. I don't really know how to describe the tuning but it's kind of between medium and high I guess. If I could go back and redo though, I would tune it a bit lower. I think low tuned snares with a crisp bottom head sound fantastic after some EQ and compression.
hey man like i said i was looking into getting the m-audio interface, but what else are you using, any preamps? im sure its probably listed in your description but i have bad dyslexia ahahaha, but yeah bro i just dont get how these drums sound so good
@NCcrashman Hey Patrick! I can imagine chrome looks good on stage but it's been ages since I was on stage really so I can't remember :( As far as electronics go, my drum mics are just plugged straight into my Profire 2626 which sends the signal straight to my computer. The rest is then done in my DAW which is Reaper. As for effects, I will reveal them all when I get into the mixing phase at which point I will be releasing videos just like now so stay tuned man :) Take care!
Regardless of whatever kit your playing, you really play it well and I am impressed. Only been a couple of people I have been impressed with on Youtube and your one of them. I swear I wish I could play odd-meter as well as you. Solid my friend!! You'll have very bright career. Thanks again for sharing. I look forward to more. If you need a drumtech, think about me 8-) hahaha
I so disagree with the comments that a chrome wrap look's "shitty". Under lights and on stage, they look better than ANYTHING else you can use. I have owned a drumset with chrome wrap and when I was on stage playing under lights, people said it looked so cool it looked like a flying saucer!! That being said, there are so many kit's better than Pearl Exports. Those drum's I'm not a fan of. My practice kit is maple, was cheap and sounds amazing. As for electronics, whats your mixer, effects etc?
Dude, WAY killer sound. Natural yet altered where necessary. I have pretty much finished getting my personal rig together. Sadly, I am Orthopedically disabled after a drunk driver hit me head-on. I was on a motorcycle. Not the best type accident for a professional drummer.Anyway, being a fellow drummer, I would love to see your electronics.
I also want to compliment your timing. I have struggled with odd-meter timing for many years and appreciate someone who makes it look effortless. Nice work!
@NCcrashman Hey! Thanks a lot for the kind words. I'm sorry to hear about your injury... or actually I'm pissed to hear it. Being hit by a drunk driver, it just pisses me off thinking about it, freakin' monsters. I hope you have retained your love for music even after that. What do you mean about seeing my electronics? Oh thank you, odd-meter timing is something I find fun and I guess that's why it seems as if I'm good at it. You'll be good at whatever you find to be fun :)
Good job man, but in my opinion your snare drum is tight up too much, so the sound isn't the best you can get from it and also in the record the snare was too loud comparing to the rest....
@n13cz It's all just a matter of taste isn't it? It's hard to define the "best" snare sound, how would you define that? I've had this drum sound in my mind even before beginning recording the drums so in my world this is the best drum sound for my album. It's all about vision. Not to be a bitch but there is no record yet, nothing is even mixed yet I'm not sure I'm too worried about the snare for now haha :)
@AlphaDee It's nothing fancy, I guarantee you that :) I can't remember right now but it's a pretty simple chain. I'll be going through it all later in the mixing videos so you'll have something to look forward to.
This has that swedish high compression cold metal tone... am I right? the cymbals could use a little boost in the mix to make them stand out more.
