Mike, have you worked at all on a traditional German Wheel before trying this Cyr (sp?variety? I might be able to introduce you to a friend of mine ( ticklemeangie on youtube) if her schedule permits.
I have not but I've heard conflicting reports of how much German wheel skill transfers over to Cyr. I'd love to learn some German wheel stuff if I have the opportunity but they are big and difficult to transport so buying my own is out of the question. When I break this down into 3 pieces, I can carry my wheel and juggling bag on my bike.
This seems like such a dumb idea - Mike, is it really worth it? I suppose it's cool once it works, and it's good exercise, but come on - all that pain? I wouldn't bother. It's very cool to watch though... just not something I would consider worthwhile for myself ;-)
Oh and I did not laugh. You need pretty inherently hilarious situations to make me find pain funny. Not that others can't find this entertaining though! Well, I did enjoy watching, but not because I like seeing others crash and burn.. more because that wheel is such an interesting... thing.
I too never considered the learning curve before purchasing this wheel. I mean it's definitely not the least pleasant thing I've ever done but it's up there.

Meaning, if you can get more footage of some training with this thing, that would be pretty cool :-D

Will do, hopefully since I'm at the beginning of the learning curve, I'll improve quickly for some time and progress will be quick and snappy.

Open your palms like a cartwheel. It's less of a problem than you might thing, especially compared to the other problems I have (see the video).

But I do guess that it's difficult, so I shouldn't laugh....

I've always been jealous of people with cyr wheels as I've always wanted to play with one.... Never really considered the learning curve =).
I guess a mat is out of the question, probably doesn't work too well with the wheel eh?
Keep it up! =)
