yeah i used something similar to that yesterdat expect i had my wooly booger tied onto the leave some old man set it up and i smashed some trout the other day, I mean smashed some trout

Thanks for the info. I have tried to tie one. The result was ok not great. Since I am new to this my equipment is not the best. As I was trying to pull back on the rubber to reduce the size the hook keeps pulling out. If I can get it tight enough, the hook seems to bend. Any suggestions? I did use your technique to tie a 1 oz spinnerbait for Bass and that came out good Thanks again for getting back to me and making the video

I am very new to fly fishing. This spring will actually be my first time out with a fly rod. I really like this fly, but not sure how to fish it. Is it just retrieved like a spinning reel? Or do you strip it back to make it spin. If I can't get it to work on a fly rod, I am going to try this on a spinning rod for crappies. Going out to get the book as soon as I find it. THANKS

This is not the easiest fly to fish with on a fly rod. It requires a smooth retrieve but not necessarily fast. It also makes a heck of a lot of noise flying by your head. I use either a medium strip retrieve or a smooth hand retrieve on this. The spinner will spin fairly easily so that's not an issue. It takes a little practice to cast it and use a larger (5 wt or bigger) rod to cast it. A 7 or 8 weight is ideal in my opinion. Good luck.

Ahh, a purist among us. The fly was developed by Tom Nixon for fishing in the bayous of South Louisiana. It is light enough to be cast with a fly rod and is made with materials of traditional fly fishing - so why not? I'm less a purist and more adaptive in using what works. My method of presentation is the fly rod and I tie flies designed for that method. True it's not a catskill fly, but I'm not fishing for trout either.

Very True, and I can't take away from the skill and precision involved in the creation of that lure. I never considered myself to be a purist, but I guess I am. I'll fish a wooley bugger, a sanjuan worm etc, but this just took me by complete suprise. But I guess it really is no different to a pistol pete fly.
