  • This looks like the logo on the TVs all around the Kowloon map in Black Ops

  • Must have been the final week of '78, as Die Fledermaus usually was presented

around New Years Eve, if not on it.

  • @noahf67 I was just going to post the same thing. I remember the Die Fledermaus promos airing right in the middle of my kid-post-christmas-blues!

  • I love all the pretty colours....

  • I love the kaleidoscopic effect around the '5'.

  • That was Ed Ladd on that station promo.

  • Yes I did forget to mention Lou Steele! Thanx!

  • how about "the choice is channel 5, metromedia new york five!" from mid 70's.

  • Someone actually put that one up . . .

  • I don't recall this one...maybe because we had a black and white TV back then.

  • what about the fun is on channel 5 promo?

It was animation of 5 turning in to different

    characters.

  • I love these "We Give You a Choice" spots, with the cheery little instrumentals. I have one from April of 1979, but with Tom Gregory doing the honors. The last five seconds of this jingle were used by Channel 5 for the "Next" bumpers in 1979-80 or so.

  • Is this Tom Gregorys voice here? I remmber this voice from the 50s on this station .Did he ever do an in person TV program for the Channel?

  • The announcer here is Ed Ladd. As for Gregory, he remained a staff announcer until 1986, and did appear on camera earlier in his career, hosting cartoon and news programs on Channel 5.

  • Thank you so much , because I was so confused as a 4yearold when I used to watch Cartoon Playtime in which,Ed Ladd,Fred Scott,Fred Hall, and Tom Gregory rotated hosting and all went by the name Uncle! I was confused more when the show went off the air and I tried to play name match with hosts when I would hear them do Public Service announcements and would not see their faces anymore!Great Info! Brings back memories!

  • As 'panedit' said, this was Ed Ladd. There was a difference between his voice and the more "gravelly" quality of Mr. Gregory's. Let's not also forget Lou Steele, who was with Ch. 5 since the mid-1950's, hosted "Creature Features" as "The Creep," and did a 7 P.M. "Did you hug your child today?" PSA in a 1983 clip. B.T.W., Mr. Ladd came to Ch. 5 around 1958 - three years after Mr. Gregory and Mr. Steele.

  • That would be right about this being later in 1978 - by 1979, the same animation was being used but the slogan became "That's Choice."
