to be honset I actually prefer this one, you can hear the more subtle tones and he accents the main lines in both hands much better. Sergio seems to lack that in his performance.
the revolutionary etude is probably one of the more accessible of the etudes, and this is among the most difficult of the preludes. the difference is the length. the etude is twice as long, but you have more freedom to take rubato, finish phrases, and start again. in the prelude, it's nonstop until the end. so weighing those factors, I'd say they're about even, giving the prelude a slight edge on the difficulty scale
definitely, the chopin revolutionary etude is mostly about knowing proper fingering and scale passages.. in this song its crazy octave rushes, arpeggios, super super fast scales, as well as a right hand melody thats not too pleasant to learn lol.
Playing the revolutionary Etude well is indeed a professional's job, however this prelude is much much more difficult. It requires another lever of professionality.
Both hands are extremely difficult while the texture and their basic tythm are completely different. You can play this only by indepently playing of two motives (pure rubato).
Very good. I'm a Brazilian and I'm 13 years old. I take piano classes and I'm still in the first year. I know to get this music in the piano should be pretty difficult.
Yes, does anyone know if he still tours? His official website is woefully outdated. I saw him in Newport RI back in 2002 and have wanted to see him again since. Any info you have would be appreciated. Thanks.
Ofcourse there are more difficult pieces than others. But everyone has got different hands and characteristics and that's why for somebody is 25/6 easier than (for example) 10/4
I'm pretty sure mei-ting won the 2005 chopin competition. He's also a pretty cool guy at a party, very laid-back. Piano virtuoso sans the typical social awkwardness. What more could one ask for?
well...in certain areas this piece can get quite hairy, particularly the octaves in the left hand and the chromatic-based run in unison. However, this is almost child's stuff compared to Op.10 nos. 1,2,4,5,and 12. Op.25 nos. 6(thirds i think...),11, and 12. I'm learning this as of now and am finding it to be a bit easy.
I like how the left hand isn't necessarily harsh or abrupt, it cleanly and fluidly balances the piece with the right hand. Unlike Kissin's interpretation, which is harsh and abrupt.
I desagree with rustyspoons. Argerigh an Tempo play this prelude like robots too fast with no fellings at all and same tempo in whole prelude. This is a better interpretation, left hand sounds better and keep the artwork in balance.
This is one of the best interpretations I've heard. He playes it with a steady tempo, he has great dynamics, he doesn't play it too fast, and he makes it very exciting! The only thing I didn't like was his very first chord. I don't think it should be broken. The first chord should be like, "BOOM!"
I like this guy's playing better than Blechacz, maybe he should've won. It's not just an accumulation of fast attacks. It has shape and dash. Only bad thing are the accents on each downbeat for last ascent. Too "measure lines."
Way too fast for my taste. Even though it's supposed to be a fast piece, this crossed the line.
ermeng0l 6 months ago
@ermeng0l His tempo is dazzling, but at this pace its virtually impossible to give shape or meaning to the notes
and that is the downside of playing this fast....

I dare any guitar players to play this on an electric guitar duet i bet it would sound AWESOME.

This prelude is more difficult than the Revolutionary etude; especially if you consider the work of both hands.

i disagree, i have played both hundreds of times...the prelude seems more difficult but is very comfortable if you get it right.
the c minor etude is in my opinion one of the most difficult ones...

uhmmmm.... Its GREAT !, but.... Sergio Tiempo, is really much better, I find thin beginning and ending too slow.
Sergio Tiempo, its much powerfull, fast, and also keep the cleanliness.
Its just my opinion.

so far from what is written on the musicsheet
and no wondering why he didn't got into the 2nd round.
he is barely "playing"the right hand, if one couldn't afford the tempo , why keep it? to sound poor?

Oh come on... op. 25/12 is relatively easy, op. 25/1, op. 10/3! op. 10 6, op. 25 10 isn't really hard. I agree with 10 4 and 12 though. 10 5 is pretty hard, i think.
