  • Harrowing obstacle course in musicianship, but she nails it.

  • Show de Mezzo-soprano!

Qualcuno mi potrebbe dire dove posso trovar eil libretto di Bajazet?

  • hurra! HURRA!

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • @TUPA119 Indeed! aaaaaaaaaaaa

  • compliments for the extraordinary performance

  • I love even just watching her sing.

  • @goodguy993: You are certainly not alone. : 0)

  • Reply from one of LOCs senior music specialists re score: I have found no indication that Vivaldi's "Il Bajazet" (1735) has ever appeared in a published version in either a full score or piano-vocal score format.

A performing version of this opera was apparently prepared specifically for the recording from unpublished manuscript material held at the Music Department of the National Library of the University of Turin, Italy.

    Also, possibly contact Virgin records.

  • why are they using baroque oboes? can't modern oboes play baroque music?

  • @metalheadlass : they can, and too often do. Baroque sound is different. It is also desired by many artists--hence their revival over the last 60 years or so. your remarks re: voice and face are spot on. Watch the smiles on the 1sts. face as he plays/directs.

    eigen66

  • @66eigen thanks for the reply.

    yeah, they're really enjoying it

  • @metalheadlass : Should you re-visit this remarkable performance, note the sounds made by the musicians at the close of this performance. Wonderfully telling stuff. stay well.

  • Two marvels: Elina and her singing...

  • Could you pleaaaaaase upload the video of "Quel ciglio vezzosetto"??? I find it even more enrapturing :)

  • Too bad that Elina said a few years back that she's not likely to sing any Baroque music anymore after this ! Baroque music will be the lesser for it !

  • No make-up, no haidresser, but the artistic talent is as always awesome. What a remarkable youg woman ! Bravo!

  • @lplover441 she doesn't need make-up, her face is pretty enough, and her voice...just gorgeous!

  • Her voice is so smooth and lovely sounding...she doesn't sound like singing hurts her.

  • She's a goddess. What an absolutely amazing work. Stunning.

  • I just tried to buy this on itunes...this is the only aria in the ENTIRE opera that you can't buy as a single track... :(

  • There's an easy solution: buy the whole thing. It's completely worth it.

  • I'm desperately trying to find the sheet music - any ideas?!

  • Beautiful, nothing less than beautiful! Brava Elina !

  • Stunningly beautiful.

  • Wow, Elina, you're simply great! I like this singer so much not only because of the voice color and timbre but also for her expressiveness. She's amazing! It's not easy to do those stacatto when you have a voice like hers - very big one but versatile and beautiful! She's one of my best Singers! I do reallly want to see on stage one day. I wish to be sooner as possible! Tomara! :) Brava!

  • Is there any way she could be less than marvellous??? Don't think so :o)

Her range is amazing and she's such a musician...

  • all Fabio Biondi's choices for this Bajazet has fantastic voices in very beautiful "boxes". Great!

  • she is workin out...and her technique is wonderful...bravo!

  • I've never seen fabio biondi smile so much in a video. Finally something to sate his appetite!

  • Wunderbar.

  • she's pretty, but who cares. she is the bomb for hell of other reasons. stop saying she is pretty. was cerquetti pretty?

  • UNE NOUVELLE VOIX IMPORTANTE

  • GORGEOUS!

  • This is how I imagine Farinelli's voice! Brava!

  • Bello!

  • I love the bassonist gasping for breath at 2:19.

  • Simply great and wonderful. Elina Garanca is the very best Mezzo Sopran in the world and a very beautiful and charming lady.

  • great job

  • I like that!

    this is really...perfect!

    or not?

  • Yes. Surely is. Elina is an wonderful artist, w such beautiful voice!

  • I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great great great

  • Could anyone please post the lyrics? Thanks a lot. :)

  • And the translation is: Often among pretty flowers in the verdant meadow, a poisonous snake lies hidden, and one who passes through tries to escape in vain. Similary I cannot escape from love and pity, anger and cruelty. And yet I am content to leave grandeur and the throne, dearest, for love of you.
  • Same aria as in Hasse's Siroe, written for Farinelli :)

  • Great, great! Garanca has got one of the most beautiful mezzo timbres I ever heard, incredibly solid, rounded, warm and rich in colours and harmonics. And she still adds to that her amazing technique. She's still only 32 and her recordings show a very great voice, I wonder how many unforgettable artistic achievements she may reach in the next years! Great actress, great voice, wonderful looks and a serious artist who chooses her repertoire carefully. What else can you ask for? ;-)

  • I just love Elina Garanca! Her voice is gorgeous, and her technique is superb! I have this aria on a cd, I listen to it almost dayly!

  • I know what you are talking about. Her singing, somebody knowledgeable already said here in YT elsewhere, "is not from this world". Her voice and artistry are trully additing-I for myself also can´t stop listening her. I´m glad you like her to support her career. bravo Marlifan

  • @bernard,

This is Antonio Vivaldi: Bajazet, published by Virgin Classics in 2005. How come you couldn't locate it? -- Interesting story about this recording; the manuscript has gaps in it in crucial places, and so they had to find suitable arias by other composers to fill in and make the whole thing going...

  • Bajazet is a pasticcio from the beginning so it does not matter so much =)

  • I loved this she has an amazing voice, i would love to buy this and support her career. I have never heard this music before, however i have serched the internet and not been able to locate it please help thankyou.

  • I see this comment was made a year ago, but if you are still looking for this opera recording it is on iTunes.

  • It's voices like hers and Vivica and Cecilia that make me wish I could be a mezzo! So beautiful! absolutely breathtaking. :)

  • Well, I bought the Bajazet CD by Fabio Biondi and I really recommend it!It's by far the best opera CD I've bought!

  • I like her very much... beautiful voice...

  • This is the only video where I see Fabio Biondi smile...

  • He does smile on the aria [also from Bajazet] sung by Vivica Genaux. Lol.

  • I love the way she takes care of her tone in the long runs, the large intervals, all the time! Its intelligent and beautiful to listen to. Great!

  • She´s ok, but Sara Mingardo sings this aria far better

  • I tell you what, why don't all of you try and sing this aria...at this speed, and clarity, and volume.....and then we'll see who has the better technique....

  • Actually her italian is much clearer than many other singers. I loved her simplicity, very "in style" and stylish :)

  • thats all back... somewhere back...and covered... but nice voice...you have such voices a million inthe world- nothing speciall...for me...why she is so popular?????

  • I'd be more careful not to misplace restraint and refinement for poor production such as not resounding forward. Covered? Indeed she avoided chest voice but that's rather keeping standards in Baroque. Obviously she hasn't matured her sound but I find it a most precious gem yet to be fully polished.

  • Alas the only and last time she sings baroque music. She really wants to go towards Amneris, Eboli.

  • I generally don't care for Elina's singing - too languid. But here it's perfect!

  • Her Italian sounds chewed, not very clear. I agree that she's willing to throw away too much of her voice for convey that passsion, and in her coloratura. I hear this problem with many singers when it comes to their coloratura.

  • Outstanding, to say the least. I'm speechless. 5 stars. Amazing interpertation. Please don't compare this jewel with Bartoli. I have seen them both live and people like Bartoli for her theatrical, sonorous performance and very strong presence at stage. Maybe that makes her a good actress but nothing else.

  • Reflecting on what a present singer's beauty of tone means to me, Elina's voice immediately comes to mind. What an exquisite timbre, so much richness and delicacy delivered in masterful and classy manners...Gorgeous. Bella Voce!

  • Thank you so much for posting this. First time I saw and heard her, I knew she was something special. Not to be compared with any other mezzo, which doesn't mean that I don't love Cecilia anymore.

  • thanks do much for this vid yerrrrrrrrrrr

  • i love love love Elina Garanca

  • Very refined and graceful. The exact opposite of Bartoli.

  • Gogeous. Great technique. Noble care of the sound and of the singing line. She will be a star. Please, not compare that great artist to the ridiculous Bartoli .

  • True, but if there's one thing Bartoli has going for her, it's passion. Unfortunately, she's willing to throw away too much of her voice for convey that passsion, and to show off her speed. I enjoy some of Bartoli's slower, more lyrical work, but in pretty much anything with coloratura, I can't stand her.

  • I understand now why she says she doesn't like that much baroc music... her voice is "too" classic for that... Bartoli is famous because of her technique but also because of the link she built between the audience and the stage. You follow her whereever she leads. Garanca is really good but it is obvious that she has other interest that baroc music... so she does not lead us... thanks for posting that is nice to hear and to see ;) though

  • Poor Bassoonist...

  • hahah... He was like "phhewwhhh aahh.. ahh.. aa...h..."

I hope he didnt hurt himself...

    wonderful Performance!

  • She's good. Really good. And good looking. She must be stopped.

  • make her marry me, i'll take her off your hands

  • ah ah! Nice one! However, she belongs to mankind...

  • This is my favorite aria from the entire opera, especially the sequence from 55 seconds to 70 seconds. It's just heaven.

  • This is a class singing! Bravissima, noble and elegant!!

  • I love how the Bassoonist nearly runs out of breath. Great to watch and listen to so bouncy and witty! Thanks for putting it up!=D

  • La mejor de todas.

  • Elena is modest. Bartoli is breaking all the rules of technique but sounds great so who cares, I think Elena is doin Ok for herself though!

  • Nice comment. But the truth is Elina improves day after day, on her quest.

  • She has a beautiful voice and wonderful technique and elegance. I have to ask why, with such wonderful singing, is Bartoli so famous?

  • This is fantastic! To first commentor - I agree. But this is no practising - you generally stop in practice sessions! Drr

  • I like the authentic instruments

  • there's something about watching/listening to professional musicians practicing (unless this is an actual recording)
