wow....i had heard Elina a couple of times singing some arias but i didnt know she could sing baroque too! And so skillfully and gracefully as well :)
Muchas gracias a Saltbei por este video en el que podemos admirar una faceta desconocida de la maravillosa voz de Elina a la que tuve la ocasión de ver en Valencia.
Reply from one of LOCs senior music specialists re score: I have found no indication that Vivaldi's "Il Bajazet" (1735) has ever appeared in a published version in either a full score or piano-vocal score format.
A performing version of this opera was apparently prepared specifically for the recording from unpublished manuscript material held at the Music Department of the National Library of the University of Turin, Italy.
@metalheadlass : they can, and too often do. Baroque sound is different. It is also desired by many artists--hence their revival over the last 60 years or so. your remarks re: voice and face are spot on. Watch the smiles on the 1sts. face as he plays/directs.
@metalheadlass : Should you re-visit this remarkable performance, note the sounds made by the musicians at the close of this performance. Wonderfully telling stuff. stay well.
Too bad that Elina said a few years back that she's not likely to sing any Baroque music anymore after this ! Baroque music will be the lesser for it !
Wow, Elina, you're simply great! I like this singer so much not only because of the voice color and timbre but also for her expressiveness. She's amazing! It's not easy to do those stacatto when you have a voice like hers - very big one but versatile and beautiful! She's one of my best Singers! I do reallly want to see on stage one day. I wish to be sooner as possible! Tomara! :) Brava!

And the translation is: Often among pretty flowers in the verdant meadow, a poisonous snake lies hidden, and one who passes through tries to escape in vain. Similary I cannot escape from love and pity, anger and cruelty. And yet I am content to leave grandeur and the throne, dearest, for love of you.
Great, great! Garanca has got one of the most beautiful mezzo timbres I ever heard, incredibly solid, rounded, warm and rich in colours and harmonics. And she still adds to that her amazing technique. She's still only 32 and her recordings show a very great voice, I wonder how many unforgettable artistic achievements she may reach in the next years! Great actress, great voice, wonderful looks and a serious artist who chooses her repertoire carefully. What else can you ask for? ;-)
I know what you are talking about. Her singing, somebody knowledgeable already said here in YT elsewhere, "is not from this world". Her voice and artistry are trully additing-I for myself also can´t stop listening her. I´m glad you like her to support her career. bravo Marlifan
This is Antonio Vivaldi: Bajazet, published by Virgin Classics in 2005. How come you couldn't locate it? -- Interesting story about this recording; the manuscript has gaps in it in crucial places, and so they had to find suitable arias by other composers to fill in and make the whole thing going...
I loved this she has an amazing voice, i would love to buy this and support her career. I have never heard this music before, however i have serched the internet and not been able to locate it please help thankyou.
I tell you what, why don't all of you try and sing this aria...at this speed, and clarity, and volume.....and then we'll see who has the better technique....
thats all back... somewhere back...and covered... but nice voice...you have such voices a million inthe world- nothing speciall...for me...why she is so popular?????
I'd be more careful not to misplace restraint and refinement for poor production such as not resounding forward. Covered? Indeed she avoided chest voice but that's rather keeping standards in Baroque. Obviously she hasn't matured her sound but I find it a most precious gem yet to be fully polished.
Her Italian sounds chewed, not very clear. I agree that she's willing to throw away too much of her voice for convey that passsion, and in her coloratura. I hear this problem with many singers when it comes to their coloratura.
Outstanding, to say the least. I'm speechless. 5 stars. Amazing interpertation. Please don't compare this jewel with Bartoli. I have seen them both live and people like Bartoli for her theatrical, sonorous performance and very strong presence at stage. Maybe that makes her a good actress but nothing else.
Reflecting on what a present singer's beauty of tone means to me, Elina's voice immediately comes to mind. What an exquisite timbre, so much richness and delicacy delivered in masterful and classy manners...Gorgeous. Bella Voce!
Thank you so much for posting this. First time I saw and heard her, I knew she was something special. Not to be compared with any other mezzo, which doesn't mean that I don't love Cecilia anymore.
Gogeous. Great technique. Noble care of the sound and of the singing line. She will be a star. Please, not compare that great artist to the ridiculous Bartoli .
True, but if there's one thing Bartoli has going for her, it's passion. Unfortunately, she's willing to throw away too much of her voice for convey that passsion, and to show off her speed. I enjoy some of Bartoli's slower, more lyrical work, but in pretty much anything with coloratura, I can't stand her.
I understand now why she says she doesn't like that much baroc music... her voice is "too" classic for that... Bartoli is famous because of her technique but also because of the link she built between the audience and the stage. You follow her whereever she leads. Garanca is really good but it is obvious that she has other interest that baroc music... so she does not lead us... thanks for posting that is nice to hear and to see ;) though
Harrowing obstacle course in musicianship, but she nails it.
