Gheez so much to choose from! would be interesting to hear from you guys which type of wood you rate for shells - I'm guessing maple is still a good allrounder, also which are the best snare drums now, I like a tight funky snare which might work for jazz too ;0)
i personally love the sound of pdp drums, they are very good sounding even they dont the best quality in many aspects as DW are, maybe thats why pdp are really cheap taking in consideration that their sound is like the one of a pro. I own a pdp x series and a pearl forum series, i used the same heads on both drumsets pdp has a biger range of tones, and sincirely ill rather play with my pacific basing on the great sound you can get from it
I think Pearl Reference Series are pretty good. I tried one out recently. It has a damn good snare drum and bass drum, but I wasn't 2 impressed with the toms. I prefer DW "VLT" or X-Shell for toms. Thats wat I got my kit with.
I can agree with the man that says pearl reference is the best..dw's shells are exremly good, and thats what you are paying for..personally I think that reference is just as good as DW collector, plus, pearl's stands and so on I find better! you get more for your money buying pearl, but stil, dw is and will forever be dw
youtuber's i need some help, i have finnally saved up enough money to get a totaly custom drum set, but here is my proble, Sould i get a DW or Pearl masterworks. here is the things i know for a fact, Pearl has better hardware(such as bass drum legs) and better hoops(2.6 mm ) . i do like the way pearls bearing edges get rounder as the drum gets bigger, I have noticed DW dont do that. So please tell me y i should get DW over pearl or Pearl over DW... THanks!!!
i would go with a pearl, the reference series they have is amazing, i PROMISE U!! IF U HAVE EVER PLAYED A PEARL REFERENCE THAT WAS TUNED PROPERLY, U WONT GO FOR ANYTHING ELSE
It totally depends on what music youre gonna be playing and your budget! Even if you've saved up a fortune, u shouldnt be overpaying! I personally would go for either TAMA Starclassic Bubinga or DW Collector X Shells! Those 23" kicks are mindblowing!
I also consider TAMA's hardware being waay superior; pedals, stands, hoops(die-cast WOHO!)etc! But it's all a matter of taste! Find a local music shop and try it out! But one piece of advice: DO NOT LISTEN TO THE SALESMEN, listen to the drums...
i bought the pearl, they sounded better to me and tamas hi hat stands and cymbal stands were not as good. but i got the iron cobra pedals and they kick ass
TAma cymbal stands are just as good if not BETTER than DW. Especially when you factor in price. Iron Cobra pedals were just as good as DW up until around 2005 models where they changed the parts supplier and cheaped them out. NOTHING compares to the 9000 series however. I'm happy using BOTH TAms AND DW hardware. You just have to pick and choose.

Dw drums are the most beautiful drums in the world.
Also I recommend an argentine brand of drums named solidrums.
