Yes christmas was originally a pagan holiday. As originally it was celebrated as the 25 was the darkest day of the year and was celebrated as the end of dark days and a new light to come. As Jesus came as a new light to the earth and came to give people freedom and a choice to live in darkness or the new light or life that he offers not only for the new year but for eternity . The christIans adapted the holiday as Jesus is the true new light to the earth.
@justinjocelyn Do you have anything relevant to bring to the argument? To quote the Principle in Billie Madison, "What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it."
Amazing video by the way :) SO powerful! I just want to say one thing to the people debating against this. Jesus loves you so much and wants you in heaven with him for eternity. We all have a purpose in life and that is to show Jesus to others! He wants all of you, and this is not something that needs to be debated publicly and offensively on youtube. Thanks.
@horsejumper4 Why do you find opposing opinions offensive? And yes it does need to be debated publicly. In this country we have the right to voice our opinions in a public forum. When you post a video that is full of blanket statements and untruths and leave it open for comment you shouldn't be surprised when individuals refute it. I will never understand why, otherwise, smart people allow themselves to get offended by historical facts when the topic of discussion is of a religious nature.
I have to be the first person refute this load of rhetorical garbage? The description of this video claims that it "explains the real meaning of Christmas." This video just shows that Christians are the only people in the world that would find real meaning in this nonsensical piece of crap. "This is the reality of Christmas whether you like it or not." Christianity simply hijacked the traditions of Pagans to attract more followers. Christians, please don't try and lay claim to the holiday.
@pamelafro1 If anything, my comment is a statement against intolerance and narrow mindedness. I am simply making the argument that Christmas, as we know it today, has no more root in the birth of Jesus Christ than Easter has in an egg laying bunny. Name one Christmas tradition, other than the title "Christmas" (which actually means "death of Christ") that is rooted solely in Christianity. The holiday is actually originates from the Roman pagan holiday Saturnalia.
@tuckermurphey1 In the 4th century Christian leaders decided that in order to convert mass amounts of pagans they would have to allow them to continue celebrating Saturnalia. The problem was, there was nothing intrinsically Christian about the holiday. So it was then declared that Jesus Christ was born December 25th to coincide with the pagan holiday. Historians blindly, intolerantly and parochially agree on this BTW. Once again, Christians please don't try and lay claim to the holiday.

@tuckermurphey1 your response shows that you are intolerant and narrow-minded - believe what you want to believe and allow others to do the same!
