I feel like a combination of a traditional style athletic workout split would be a must with these workouts (chest tris, back bis, legs, shoulders). You can't really just replace power lifts with body weight exercises. Not saying it won't work just saying you would increase your results.

here in MTL at epicentre training I have been doing athlete style training for about 7 years.
it would be nice to see some regular folks start to do this kind of training because normally the gym is full of football players rugby players fighters and strongmen. And I feel like a shrimp even though i am 250 lbs hehehe
Jeff! I have bad knees. I played football for about 11 yrs and now have gained weight...a lot. I started working out about 3 was ago and i have to watch how hard i train with my knees. Have any suggestions? By the way the horrible hundreds are horrible. Good stuff.
@romeois21i have the same problem bcz of handball:) modified ur workout dont do to much jumping:) and take vitamine for the joints (arthro stop or durofen vitamine for the joints or u can inject in ur knees the lubrificant is like oil to help ur knees feeling better when u do ur workouts . u have problem on ur knees bcz they dont hv oil so u need glucosamine condroitin oh and very important dont run on the trade mil bicle bcz this 2 things they do a lot damage for the knees sorry for my english

STARTED WORKING OUT 11 MONTHS AGO, AND FOUND YOUR PAGE, I BEEN USING ALL THE THINGS YOU SAY IN THE GYM, ITS GREAT TO SEE MY BODY GET BETTER AND USING MORE THEN THE NORMAL MUSCLES.
The leg extension motion looks somewhat similar to kicks thrown in taekwondo where the practitioner raises their leg with knee bent and proceeds to extend the leg in a snapping motion i.e. front snap kick, and round kick). Although as a taekwondo student I think I prefer the athlean exercise for explosiveness.
i'd say it all depends on ur goals.. if u wanna lose weight or tone up I'd think ur style would be more effective while if ur trying to put on some mass for an ectomorph, compound exercises like dumbbell bench and db rows would be more effective than bodyweight exercises (although pullups are good no matter what ur goal). incorporating both styles would probably be ideal
I just finished the AthleanX programme. I saw a mention somewhere on an old posting that there's a second programme. Does it still exist? Where can I buy it? For now, I guess, I'll just restart at week 1 and incorporate some of the video exercises.
@theheadbasher I'm sure they helped with quad muscle building and thereby increasing your kick strength, but I'm a rugby winger and I kick too. There are much better exercises that simulate kicking. When you kick you use a lot of your core and hip flexors, the leg muscle contractions are far from the whole motion. Leg curls are a highly non-functional exercise. Sure, they work the quads, but that's like doing tricep extensions for boxing. You could do better.
you make it seem as if old school workouts are useless when there not, im sure incorporating the new styles is very effective, however if your bulking body weight aint gonna help

@TKN7 They're known for strengthening the quads but I remember a video from him telling that this leg extensions could cause severe damage to the knee so if you plan to do this as part of your leg training better do them just for warming up and with no heavy weight...just an advise! Take care!!
If anyone's in any doubt about that bench press (and I was) I just tried Jeff's alternative exercise of the push up with the twist: my shoulders, back, arms have simply never been worked like that doing regular bench presses. Do it. NOW. It's also great fun doing new exercises. Thanks Jeff!

the bulgarian split squat jump is a solid exercise. take that exercise over a leg extention anyday, and the twisting piston push up is unreal. great exercises

@alativalmis what a bad way to kick into 2012. Sorry to hear that. Ummm, training arms without straining shoulders? Try the preacher curls with an EZ bar. and go light on the weight until u reover. u can still feel the tension with light weights if u go really slow in every reps, make a full stretch at the bottom, and pose at peak contractions. As for Triceps, maybe u can do the skull crushers ? it doesnt stress the Rotator cuff. Same rules as preacher curls. Goodluck recovering :)

Jeff, I do do different variations of bodyweight leg-extensions (along with hamstring-curl variations) based off of what you've shown so far. However, I don't believe that the leg extension machine should be neglected. I've used it so far, along with the "safer" leg-extension variations, and it hasn't harmed me, or my knees rather. I do NOT use the hamstring-curl machine; THAT is pretty strenuous on my knees. But different things work for different people. Happy New Year, btw!
The push-up variation is great!!!! I can easily bench more than my body weight, but the unequal distribution of weight really fatigued me. I was a bit shocked by how effective it was. The leg workout and the pull up variation were also great. I will certainly work them in to the normal Athlean X/TNT system.

u can not compare a DB row to a pullup because obviously a pullup is the no 1 exercise for back.
u can not compare a leg extension to a squat because obviously a squat is king. you should have compared squat to squat.

jeff can u please not include the "cool young reese" song? its loud, unnecessary n just prolongs the video, maybe because i've been watching u for awhile, n it might be cool for newcomers but u shd try a short signature sound kinda like the door slamming shut sound they have for Konvict music, and u can have the X fall on the Athlean logo. Just an idea.

The people who disliked this video obviously haven't tried your workouts! I've been working out the "old school way" for 20yrs. I've been doing Athlean-X workouts for 6 months, and I've gotten the bet results I ever had! I'm starting to see my abs, haven't seen them since high school! Thank you Jeff!

Jeff, I do do different variations of bodyweight leg-extensions (along with hamstring-curl variations) based off of what you've shown so far. However, I don't believe that the leg extension machine should be neglected. I've used it so far, along with the "safer" leg-extension variations, and it hasn't harmed me, or my knees rather. I do NOT use the hamstring-curl machine; THAT is pretty strenuous on my knees. But different things work for different people. Happy New Year, btw!

The push-up variation is great!!!! I can easily bench more than my body weight, but the unequal distribution of weight really fatigued me. I was a bit shocked by how effective it was. The leg workout and the pull up variation were also great. I will certainly work them in to the normal Athlean X/TNT system.
