yeah, maybe shimano rear D's work well for a season or two but after that they play a lot and then fail if you use them on rough trails! sram on the other hand lasts longer even if they don't work as smooth for the first 6 months! and they are cheaper! shimano is great on the road and smooth xc trails though!
really??? I've been beating up my xt 2004 rear d mercilessly for a good 5 years racing xc and all and it never missed a beat.... I actually broke a frame and moved it to my new rig and it still works like a charm.
Weird...
Have broken a blackbox X0 a couple of times though...
Actually I've never once broken anything made by shimano on my bike while I've trashed a truvatic crankset and a sram sprocket (and the X0..)
Shimanos dura ace 9 speed chain hasn't been updated since its introduction unlike all the other xtr dura ace components. SRAM has already introduced a new 991 chain called the 991 CROSS STEP which has stronger push pin pullout resistance making for a stronger chain. SHIMANO needs to put some more R & D into their chains. Theirs no such thing as a unbreakable chain.
so true & lookint at there animation on it shifting, i have Sram on my DH bike & Shimano on me XC, neather chains shift as sharp as there showing if a link movved sidways that much the chain would be a ruined 1, but when it comes to both systems SRAM SRAM SRAM way snappier, so eazy to replace a cable & adjust, & out of the 2 most least maintained
I still have my Shimano 105 after 2,500 miles all I have done is clean, lube and adjust the cables... still running on rails. Nowadays everything is over-rated, its your money, but I am just telling you like it is... all that ultegra, dura-ace, campi, its VERY minor difference.
The computer graphics, the slow motion video, the cool background music, and the narrator's voice, all make Shimano the best in the world. If I hear anyone say that Shimano sucks, I'll just respond by saying: "Oh yeah? Did you hear the narrator's voice? How about that slow motion video? Does SRAM use cool background music in their advertising? I didn't think so. Shimano's use of computer graphics proves that no other company can come close to their... well, awesome computer graphics. So there!"
The narrator also did the voice of chairman Kaga in the early seasons of Iron Chef.

These are great until something hits the shifter arm. Then it's a pain in the ass from there on.

I have Shimano 105 "Entry level" stuff and shifts like butter. I have done a few 100 and 65 mile bike tours and no sweat at all.

Campi is the true, original component manufacturer. More expensive though.

If memory serves me right, and I believe it does, this narrator also dubbed Chairman Kaga's voice in Iron Chef.
