It is amazing how easily all too many Americans can be manipulated with (cleverly engineered) speaches and buzzwords. It has become an extreme sport to sway opinion and to play psychological warfare. The Neocons have taken this to a new level lately. Please, fellow Americans, learn to analize, think critically and do not let emotion dominate your thinking. Otherwise you will be tricked to vote against your best interest! Karl Rove is a criminal can't you understand?
Karl Rove is facing contempt citations for his refusal to answer subpoenas to testify before congress. Rove's attorney Luskin said Rove would not appear "on the grounds that Executive Privilege confers upon him immunity from process in response to a subpoena directed to this subject." In a letter released Thursday, Conyers and Sanchez rejected that claim, and warned that they could move to hold Rove in contempt of Congress if he fails to respond to the subpoena.
I disagree that anything will happen to Rove for not showong up you surely must see that we do own the Dems however your point is so true and since I am NOT for lawlessness I have changed my mind and agree law is law but again he wont show nothing will come of it but your correct law is law
With this lawlessness, the checks and balances have been circumvented and removed. And you are not even upset about it; you rejoice.
Begin enjoying the lawless country you have helped to create. The current administration has no regard for the law whatsoever. Someday, they will even cart you off without habeas corpus, the right to see a judge, a court trial of your peers, etc. You may even be tortured. Laugh if you want, but this is the beginning of a dictatorship.
Mark your calendar for Thursday, July 10. Karl Rove has said he was not going to testify in front
"We want to make clear that the subcommittee will convene as scheduled and expects Mr. Rove to appear, and that a refusal to appear in violation of the subpoena could subject Mr. Rove to contempt proceedings, including statutory contempt under federal law and proceedings under the inherent contempt authority of the House of Representatives," Conyers and Sanchez wrote in a letter to Rove's attorney.
It's not a matter of who owns who. It's a matter of law and this administration has clearly shown it's contempt of law. what would you say to soldiers who decided they didn't have to show up for formation, or go where they were to be deployed because they felt they had no obligation to comply.would their argument "we own you guys" suffice?
Rushforpres, you are shooting yourself in the foot. You seem blinded by some sort of hate toward "Dems". It is not likely that you are highly educated, or that your thinking is completely formed. You seem to operate on emotion, not logic. If you are for upholding the law, then you should be for the arrest of Karl Rove and . here clearly you set double standerds. Those who call for Rove's arrest are mostly Democrats and because you hate them, you choose to stand up for this law breaker.
The House is the body of Congress he's in contempt of, not the Senate and if it was the Senate Cheney is not Chairman of the Judiciary Committee. Pat Leahy is. John Conyers is the Chairman in the House.
I was going off the last time it occured, in 1934. Vice President William MacCracken presided over the case. I am basing this off limited knowledge so I'm probably mistaken about something. But look into: Jurney v. MacCracken.
Actually President Bush drew a line in the sand that he can't legally support. If it comes down to the brass tacks they can actually arrest and try Rove. since the justice department has decided to ignore it's responsibilty to congress and only act as an agent of the president they don't really have any other choice than to reassert their old powers.
This means that we have no check and balances in this country. We have arrived. We are no longer a nation of laws, but a nation of people. This is the mark of a dictatorship.
I am confused- even if he did talk to the administration they can claim "Executive Privilege" for illegal acts? Where are the checks and balances then?
So for example, Cheney thinks he's part of the Senate (Article 1, section 3) and part of the Executive Branch (Article 2) at his convenience. He's got executive privilege and can decide whether impeachment hearings take place in the Senate. Mukasey hand picked as the head of the Justice Department (under the Executive Branch) to keep from enforcing the laws. Hmmmm convenient.
I just don't think Rove has an official title in the Executive branch.
hopefully conyers will stick to his guns and see this through. to date, nothing has been done and we are still no where. they didn't use inherent contempt on harriet miers & josh bolton. all talk & no action.
Oops, correction: standards....

So why are you for lawlessness? I thought Republicans were all about law and order. Or is there a big exception to that rule?
Karl Rove will show up in Congress to testify. If he does not, his tail end will be in Jail.

Cheney, as President of the Senate, would lead the proceedings in a Inherent Contempt case.

Congress won't do anything. Rove will ignore them, and they'll do nothing.

Prediction: Karl Rove will be in jail within five years.

There are none if we can't get someone that's a political character to testify in front of congress. We have arrived. We live in a lawless country.

I miss The Constitution and separate branches of government. That was the point, checks and balances.
