It doesn't work on evreyone you peanut but if you do it right you can get the tap. I've tried this in training and it has worked and im just a shit white belt!
You were a position for a body triangle to what ever depending on how he reacted to it. And I do agree your legs are wayy too low. You would use the ribcrush if he was trying to stand up out out of the full mount.
I actually had a guy put this move on me. Im skinny so it was easy to lock in. I didn't tap but it did put a lot of preasure on my ribs and took a little wind out out of me. def not a move to go for as your go to move for a sub,but def something to get your opponent moving. Kind of lick digging your elbow in the inner knee/thigh when escaping guard
i know everyone has already said this but your doing it wrong legs are to low this technique is very effective on a tired opponent who is breathing heavy try and time it when the person breaths out then squeeze just my 2 cents
i competed yesterday and used this move on a 18 and 0 mma dude. he didnt tap from it but he said he was messed up from it. he just held is breath and muscled the pain. everytime he exhailed it made it worse for him. he created space and my sweaty puss grip let go
Okay, it does work, you just dont have the correct position. Before you make such a bold assumption that it just, "Doesn't work," make sure you know what you are doing first. Firstly, you have to have the legs higher on the opponents body. You had them around the stomach, no where near the ribs. Secondly, you didn't even put enough pressure to make the guy sick. (Btw, i started writing this and halfway through i saw the guy rdpatte2 said the same thing i am right now, lol)
Dear HERCHECK. I do not mean to come off as rude or condescending yet you have the critical thinking skills of a twelve year old which explains your obsession with submitting younger people. Your technique however is even more embarrassing than your reasoning skills. You see, you have to slide your hips up closer to your opponents chest. You remained hip 2 hip with your opponent which requires you to bend your legs beyond 90 degrees, hence greatly reducing your ability to submit.

dude.. i've done it and it works.. justr try to be a little higer and also do not give up that easy... try to hold it as long as necesary.... usually if the guy doenst taps out because of the pain he would probably tap due the hart it becomes to breath with this technique..
during the few times that guys had scaped from this one... told me like.. dude I was just about to tap... why did u give up?
thanks.
and sorry about my english I'm not a native speaker :)
scorpion crunch does work u had it too low.....get right about mid rib or floating rib pull down with ur arms and stretch ur legs.....if u have strong legs then it helps alot and it hurts like a motha fucker but it is very simple to get out of
I'm also not especially flexible: still, I never failed when using Scorpion Crunch. One time my opponent even lost consciousness for a moment, such powerful pressure it is.
For sure, it's not the technique for everybody - it depends on correct position (yours was incorrect), power in legs (mine are quite strong) and length of your arms (my brother is too short to support 'crunch' fully with his arms, so the pressure he produces is obviously much weaker).
Cut the guy a little slack too. Sure he's obviously a bit misguided, but to be fair, he was in the last seconds of the match. Desperation moves are rarely effective unless you can reach a hand sized rock or gun. Hopefully the poster has learned in the time since that "high guard" is more than just throwing your legs up. You got to push off and scoot your but out too, you know. Get up under those pits. Did you train the move at all or just decide to throw it out and then dismiss it?
A Scorpion Crush is usually done by putting pressure on the ribs, not sides of the stomach, so what you did was more of a "Squishy Squish", and they definitely don't work.
sorry bro, but it works for me...you're just not flexible enough to get it high enough on the ribs. Most you're doing is making it uncomfortable there. I've submitted a wrestling coach who also is in the Army's combatives, a wrestling champion and a guy who used to roll with Bj penn. Only those few cause I haven't had any practice in a while.
The scorpion crunch does work, you just didn't pull your legs up high enough. It is low percentage, but it does rely on putting pressure on your opponents ribcage, which your legs were too low to do.
Way to do poor technique and then declare it "doesn't work" like a true white belt!
@rdpatte2 You sir are correct, he did not throw his legs up high enough to catch the ribs, he had the opponents midsection which genrate near the pressure. I have more luck with this move with thiner guys I can pull in my guard when they want to stack.
Your doing it wrong, and obviously have very weak arms and legs. Your just down on yourself because you lost a tournament. Go find videos of people attempting chokes that dont work and you'll realise they were doing it wrong.
Why would you go to the effort on making a video like this? I've seen people get out of arm bars...do they not work too? How about the Darce, triangle choke or hundreds of other submissions?
@Submissions101 a legit submission would be the guy tapping. im not aware of a rule that if an opponent throws up, its a tap. yes armbars work and there are counters..they are legit submissions. this however, will probably work on some 12 year old kid. otherwise this cannot be a legit submission. please show me a video of you in a tournament using it. thats my request of you. because i will admit that i saw it on your page, which in turn i used it.
hope that helps.I haven't used it in a tourney because it hasn't come up for me yet. If I see it in the future and try it and don't get it, I won't throw it out the window because I know guys in my school who tap from it and others that do not. I am sure you are well aware of this.
@hercheck My teacher always said; not all moves work on all people all the time. The fact that that guy threw up was a submission (just like a verbal tap). To each their own! ;-)
it works, a team mate of mine who was a female triathlon athlete tapped an opponent with a scorpion crunch, but it was a white belt absolute division and she was the larger of the two.
the move works, but it basically depends on each individual. aim for the floating ribs and give a good incrementing squeeze for a good 15 sec. if your opponent doesn't tap it's because they have a high tolerance of pain or your not doing it right.
either way their going to have a bum rib for sure.
@hercheck Actually it is VERY legit! I have literally submitted every person I have thrown this move on... I think you're just not strong enough to use it properly. Its a power submission, so if you do some dead lifting then you will KILL with this submission!
@hercheck ahahahahaha you shouldnt be grappling, you should be at home, coloring, in a helmet, hoping your next one gets up on the fridge. but it won't, seeing as elephants aren't orange.
@Submissions101 I'm not knocking you in the least, or the move, which is ingenius, but in all honesty I'd say that it qualifies as more of a gouge than a submission. Gouges can and do definitely net submissions at times, but it's a pain hold. Softies and hot heads will tap or open themselves up. Vets will ride it out unless you can apply rib cracking pressure.

OMG this technique is REALLY effective .... when you do it well . this one was awfull , pressure must be on the ribs not the hips

your arms need to be outside his, not in an underhook position. if they are over his arms, it's that much more leverage.

and if he says you won, you won.
Don't get mad because you lost a match because your dumb ass can't properly analyze how to do a technique.
