  • This was really just an experimental creation from Dan Wiggins. Just to see if they could do it. I think I remember him mentioning it could easily push a 48"x48" diaphragm. Can anyone even fathom that? A four foot by four foot diaphragm moving 6" each way 50 times a second?

  • @firebirdude2 It moved some serious air, that's for sure. I do remember seeing pictures of this motor hooked up to a diaphragm made of what looked to be a white plastic sheet, maybe delrin...

  • Anyone else kinda turned on?

  • That's a steam engine piston cylinder.

  • I've seen this motor first hand at one of the speaker building events held by Pacific Northwest Audio Society. I begged to jerry-rig some diaphragm and fire it up but the best I got was a demo of excursion with a little 9v battery. It didn't need a surround so no basket was needed. Apparently all that's needed for a cone is a piece of plywood and it moves *allot* of air. I miss Adire Audio, I always wanted to pick up their kit using the Eminence coax horn setup.

  • add the cone ets = SLAPPEDGE

  • that is very interesting

  • OMFG

  • That looks very... inapropiate for all ages!

  • LOL!!! that is just wrong

  • insane motor structure

  • that is...dirty.

  • L...M...F...A...O

  • LMFAO THAT DOESN'T LOOK RIGHT LMFAO!

  • too much moving mass for higher frequencies? am i wrong?

  • Thats alot of movement and i bet its linear as well, I do this kind of work too, nothing as mad but lots of fun all the same.

  • It's linear out to 80mm one way (that's over 6" peak to peak). To give you a comparison the MTX Jackhammer is only linear to 62mm one way and weighs 360 lbs. compared to the Parthenons 45 lbs.

  • made by: http://www.adireaudio.com/

  • hey thats cool. did u make it or just find the video. i would like to know where i can find out how to make one. email me at tim_302ford@hotmail.com

  • Woha, sorry for such a late reply...

I'm just a fan of Adire Audio, I found the video a long time ago. I didn't have any part in its creation. They did produce these viz special order. Last time I talked to someone at Adire was years ago, not sure if they are still around.
