  • It seems to be... ööööö.... FAKE!

  • My favorite guy is the one who wonders in at the end.

  • So amazing! ! It's like traveling bak in time!!

  • WHO GIVES A FLYING FUCK IF THEY WERE GAY?? I don't care if they're fucking aliens. The point is that ole' Edison got sound and video in the nineteenth century, which is pretty damn fantastic! I guess that makes this the earliest music video ever... :D :D

This made my day :) Two guys dancing with each other as a third guy played a violin. But the best part was when that other random dude entered the frame. Can't you just picture Edison going, "CHARLES! You interrupted the scene AGAIN!"?? :D

  • I think this may be the closest we'll ever get to seeing life from the 1800s on film with both sound and moving picture. These kind of things are very interesting to me. Very interesting.

  • Wow even this is more entertaining than a Kevin Smith movie

  • I have a couple of triva answers for this film:

    1. It's considered to be one of the first homosexual film ever made

    2. This film was also lost but then was found in the late 1960s in a box and that giant cylinder horn piece was found broken in half with it.

    3. Did you know that there is a addtional 2 mins of Thomas edison and the crew talking.

  • @melbrooksjew I never knew that ( number 3) Is the remainder of the film surviving? I would love to see that.

  • so technically this is the first ever recorded jam session?

  • the boom is in the frame

  • Gay.

  • I wonder how these two guys would react if they found out they were on youtube now..

  • @de1043 "HOLY SHIT WHERE AM I WHATS HAPPENING WHO ARE YOU!"

  • @de1043 xDDDD

  • @de1043 They would probably try to eat your brain right now xD

  • @de1043 They'd probably soil themselves at the very idea! Lol!

  • 6_6

     o

  • You can hear the tale-tale tick of a cylinder for the audio.

    :) I love that sound.

also, this focus on gay? Seriously.. why? Are you guys all that obsessed with it that you need to hunt for anything remotely homosexual from 100 years ago?

Ok, look at this logically: do you REALLY think they would have wasted the time to get some women in the area to dance with them for a few seconds of a recording? Doubtful. Add in the way in general women were kept FAR away from these things, and there ya go

  • @kurisux it's tell tale tick

  • They ARE NOT gay!!!

This was a TEST! They were dancing because they were testing the synchronization with the sound and picture!

  • Right. Because straight men just can't find any other way to test audio/video synchronization than to dance chest-to-chest with each other. LOL! I think the film's cute, but these continued protestations that they ARE NOT GAY are really desperate and sad. You simply can't know that they were not gay.

  • :)) wright :)))

  • Yeah, but who cares either way. This is still a strange bit of footage.

  • is this sound from 1895 too?

  • 2 guys dancing o.O

  • This clip was in the intro of the documentary: "The Celluloid Closet". ^_^

  • Comment removed

  • I don't know. >:/

  • Gaaaaaaaaaaaaay.

  • That's my grandma's hearing tube you bastards!!!

  • This is funny. I love old movies and History.

  • it's freaky

  • wow,..i just can't believe this is on youtube,...amazing....wow,...i just cried when seeing it,..it's been awhile and i'm close to editing and film history.

  • arb...but interesting

  • wow, do you actually have a cylinder record player?

  • Walter Murch is my idol, and I would trust no other sound designer in the world to make this piece of film history complete....what an amazing video

  • This is great footage. Unfortunately, the picture and the sound seem seriously out of sync. Dickson is playing on the wrong strings, and the left hand can be seen playing the last three notes of the melody three bars early.

  • That may be YouTube's fault.

  • That's awesome. Its so weird how old it is.

  • How romantic lol, but good find. I love these old videos.

  • This is an incredible find--thanks for sharing this piece of movie history. It's ashame a few people here don't understand the historical significance of this clip.

  • ACTUALLY, you homophobic moron, IN THOSE DAYS men were comfortable enough in their masculinity that they would do such things as practice dancing together and, on frontier, sleep together for warmth in the wintertime.

  • I'm secure enough in my masculinity to have sex with men.

    that's how straight I am.

  • Good for you!

  • those dudes seem pretty comfortable dancing in each others arms

  • This is a HUGELY important piece of human history. Thanks for posting it and including the story of how this treasure came to be.

  • omfg this is soooo cool....i love this old stuff

  • I feel the exact same way. These Youtube vids are like windows into the past.

  • Yes. From time to time someone posts clips from the Electric Edwardians compilation. Try to see those before they disappear, or better yet buy the set.
