Listen to way people from that part of Michigan say "accent", "bad", "sack", etc. It's quite different from how Canadians say it. Also listen to the way people from that part of Michigan say the vowel in "box", "cot", "sock", etc. This vowel sounds quite different too; it's more like the way Canadians say "backs", "cat" and "sack". Just sayin'
