  • A wonderful video that captures the soul of good music without all the "bling" so common in a lot of popular music. I like the way June gets to the heart of this song by focusing on the chorus, which sings of a sad woman who dances despite being neglected. June may be frail here but you can see her spirit is still strong, because she still wants to dance as she interprets the song for us. She's singing this song because she loves it and it shows - it's really wonderful. Thanks for sharing!

  • thanx for sharing!

  • This is such an Amazing video!!! (=

  • Johnny Cash and June Carter = Peanut butter and jelly. I love this song.

  • Quintessential American Music!! Good to catch them at home and get both June and Johnny doing that song the Carter family made so famous!!

  • I &heart; it, love this song

  • bigguns

  • Yee-up, that is Norman Blake. Blake was Jonny's guitarist on the JC Show. Absolute fantastic musician

  • The purest, sweetest love. Thank you for sharing it with us for so long! The world was a better place because you were a part of it!

  • Credits at the end forgot the lady with the fan.

  • johnny and june r.i.p YOUR CLASS

  • One of my Angels in Heaven..... Thank you!!!

  • the guitarist at johnnys right side is norman blake, isn´t he? oh i love this! it´s amazing!! they will live forever!!

  • June actually looked to be in good condition for her age, in my opinion.

  • OK, she's warm. Is there not a fan in the house? She needs a lady standing there fanning her? Is it a problem of the recording picking up the electric fan sounds?

  • Question: Was June evoking some type of spirits with her hand motions, kind of like Pentecostal praying? I am not saying a mean thing I am just wondering because this is some folksy kind of stuff here

  • @sillykidssong This video was made not long before June passed away. Her health was very fragile at this point. She dancing in her own way. Back when she was younger, June always would entertain with dancing during her performances. At this point in life, that was all she could do. If you have lived in the Commonwealth for 11 years, you sure have not picked up much knowledge. I can only assume you live in Northern Virginia.

  • It is interesting that the lady is fanning June. When you go to 1:22 in the video, you can clearly see an A/C compressor at the house.

They must have asked the lady to fan her because the AC noise would have spoiled the recording. That is what you get when you are making music in your living room and not a studio.

    cha baba

  • what kind of crazy mountain sorcery is happening here?

these folk must have some kind of curious natural high

I grew up in New Jersey and this spirit is foreign to me have no clue what is happening here

  • @sillykidssong Stay in New Jersey. We don't need you to come to Virginia looking for this.

  • @VA24541 I live in Virginia homeboy for the past 11 years

  • @sillykidssong I guess it's in the air down here. That's just the way people are.

  • this is amazing! its awesome to see her in her own setting! thank you for posting this video. :)

  • Thanks You for posting this video of two Great People !

  • Bless her heart.

  • no one ever says any thing about Johnny CAshs wife he left for June Carter

I always feel sorry for the wife and children stars leave behind

  • This is fantastic. Thank you so much.

  • sad she died a yr later

  • @ixcreme

Actually June died 4 months BEFORE Johnny Cash. She was 73 he ws 71. June's daughter from a previous marriage died in October at age 45.

  • @Gryphon502 actually i meant that she died a year later in the video

  • hahaha, poor lady fanning june

  • in 2:=5 is this johnny cash?????

  • @childrenofbodom33333 Yes definitely Johnny Cash .

  • so sweet. I'm crying...

  • If i experience half the love Johnny & June had for each other in my lifetime, i'm sure i'll be a happy man.

  • i love them

  • i dont care if im 21 or this was before my time but i have to hand it down this is classic and a great ol song.

  • @Rockmangoes im 18 and trust my friend laugh when they see this and alot of loretta lynn on my ipod

  • I Still Miss Someone

  • I love the housekeeper fanning her....

  • Ahhhhh, but they are together, and they are as happy as the WildWood Flowers

  • My great respect.

  • love this, i saw june and johnny live in washington 1997, love them, mick ireland

  • I'm an Englishman living in England and to me this is what American music should be. Talent combined with hard work and understanding of the music. America absorbed all that the 19th Century immigrants could give and produced this wonderful music. One step later came Elvis and the waterfall of beautiful music of the 60's. I wish I had been born in 1952 instead of 1962.

  • June Carter Cash should have been our first Lady President!

  • @dewaynecullen She would have been wasted. We would never have seen her talent. She was meant to sing and play.

  • Why did she pay somebody to be a leaf waver for her? That makes me wonder....could she buy a fan to fan her or what??? I t hought fans were cheaper !

  • @Licmycat a fan would've made noise whilst they were recording.

  • @rachamore True. Why have we had weed as an issure forever and GOD made it for us all....does that mean our gov. workers are satanists? This song proves almost how long it's been around....weed.

  • She says it all...pkf

  • @CurlyPubis

    I hope you do too

  • @CurlyPubis

You realize this is recorded not that long before they both departed?

And how about showing at least an ounce of respect for two of the most important people in music history.

  • @CurlyPubis How DARE YOU ? Jesus you have no heart. you can't to say or even think such things. it's the old people of this world we all owe so much for it was them that built this world in every country good or bad respect your elders. my mom always told me that and she passed at the age of 48 18 years later I still do my best to respect her wishes. Remember this...with every second that ticks away you are growing older. do it with pride and dignity and respect your elders

  • @CurlyPubis

judging by your usename and comment you really do try to impress doncha?

  • Solid gold

  • The definition for Americana: the Carter Family. I LOVE Johnny Cash - big big fan- but June made Johnny. I wish someone would just do the love story of their last thirty years.

  • @dewaynecullen Just watch "Walk the line" - 2005 :)

    Cheers!

  • She's so real. Always loved that about her.

  • @liliodine I wish I could hit "thumbs up" a hundred times for ya but once was all it would allow! Well put.

  • @dewaynecullen Yeah, don't you miss that about entertainment? It just seems like most entertainers are worried more about their boob jobs than their songwiring ability. Kinda sad. These old classics are tried and true! Take care!

  • I love June, but in this video I feel like some of the people just ignore her while she's trying to tell them about the song. She'd only been singing it since before they were BORN, why couldn't they just shut up and listen? -sigh-

  • Delightful. I do miss (mother) Maybell Carter's special (her daughters have not picked up on them) guitar licks. Listen and watch Maybell during the guitar solo at "The Carter Family - Wildwood Flower" recorded in black and white at the Grand Ole' Opry. (sigh!)

  • Génial !!Qui est la personne qui parle en francais :ok on y arrive !??répondez svp .Merci

  • @TatounetteKernic Je parle le français. Que voulez-vous savoir ??

  • This is amazing! SO GREAT! I only wish it wasn't in sepia...

  • Really nice to see this video! and yes,it is lonely without them. one of a kind! thanks

  • This video was so beautiful and true. What a nice glimpse into how a jam session with June and Johnny could have been like. I had tears in my eyes too before it was over.

  • june carter cash was a beautiful woman.she was so talented, just look at some of the older video posts.she never missed a mark.peace, desiree

  • I like her speaking voice, too.

  • So poignant,,,So sad they are gone..There was a beautiful simplicity about them both.. The world is a much sadder place now...

  • Just...stunning.

  • she always stayed ture to who she was. she was a beautiful person.

  • Oh Sweet God,you could tell she felt so bad,

    God bless you sweet lady.

    The Circle Will be Unbroken,InshaAllah!!

Old Evil Arab Muslim, Fan of Johnny and June.

  • RIP u r missed forever

  • Being a life long fan of the Carter Family and good country music it is a true thrill to see this footage of these wonderfull people who brought a little sunshine to this life. thank you dualtone, these clips are real treasures. Up here in alberta canada we local country folk remember...I just lost my mom and dad and I pray for all of us that reunion with those we love is the first joy of heaven...thanks for the music Johnny and June

  • R.I.P JOHNNY ):

  • R I P J & J CASH

  • RIP cash

  • That's wonderful. As a studio recording engineer, I appreciate the energy and synergy between all the performers. And as a lover of true country music and a fan of June forever, it's just great to see her doing what she loved.

  • True Country Royalty! I'll see ya'll when I get up yonder!

  • Dios los Bendiga y acompañe siempre June y John Cash

    som mis mejores deseos.

    Raul

  • had to come back to this..look at her dress hiked up around her knees, her bare feet on a cushion! Country gal...so sweet!

  • i love her arm movements as shes enjoying the strumming of the guitars... awesomly cool!!

  • They would fit straight up right in with my own Tennessee family. Johnny and June give me hope for ever lasting love. ♥

  • Absolutely gorgeous. Here I am 54 years old with tears in my eyes watching 2 of my favourite country singers in their twilight years. They loved each other dearly and were very lucky to have that.

  • @BlinkyBill55 look now Im just 30 years old but they make me cry aswell...june and jonny and of course dolly r the best singers in the world...no other sounds cant touch me as much as these songs could

  • "you always want to do wildwood flower"

  • What a sweet video. It is evident June was ill. She was gone a year later.

  • The story of John and June is not a happy one. Drugs, alcohol, 5 combined marriages and kids from all. What a troubed pair, but they were talented.

  • and in-love

  • Dude, what are you nuts?

Trials and tribulations of life make the sweet moments all that much more sweeter. They were blessed to have lived through a life saturated with love and trauma, we should all be lucky to pass through our time with her experiences. All of them.

Not to mention the fact that she spent the last half of her life married to the man she deeply loved.

Not happy? Are you kidding me?

  • I understand what you mean, their's was a hauntingly bittersweet story, but there was so much love. Such is life. More talent, more torment. They may have gone through some things they could have avoided if they had made different choices, but they made a remarkable impact on music. All sunshine and no rain makes drought.

I had to listen to both artists' music growing up in the mid 60's, early

70's, (parents were members of Columbia Record Club) but today I am so glad I did.

  • Long live the Carters family. My love for them will never end even when I age and meet them in Heaven.

  • Great Video June

  • Awesome Video!!!! We sure lost 2 of the greatest singers when June and John left us.

  • And when she talks about everything, isnt it just amazing? it really touches me this album, its absolutely amazing and a true piece of, well actually i cant find a word in my vocabulary to describe this album

  • To jojojojo123098, i believe you should have some respect, i know that you dont have the mental capacity to fathom the talent or the woman but i thought even a true idiot could comprehend that this clip is a true piece of history.

  • What an honor it would have been to be there!

  • It breaks my heart to hear this. I can't believe they are gone.

  • i no very sad

  • Isnt it heartbreaking

  • not realy they loved the lord may we rejoice for we know walk the streets of heaven.

  • I am 21 yrs old and to me, this is true music. June and John were real and honest people. NOT FAKE like todays musicians!

  • looks like norman blake is on guitar for this one

  • John and June used to form a great couple!

They used to sing amazing songs and they are in my heart!

I'm a big fan of them!

  • priceless

  • I'm sorry, but this is just sad

  • ya.... lolz at the fanning chick

  • haha she switches hands

  • the fanning thing is a country thing. as a kid I remember some "young un" fanning the old or sick. no A/C back then

  • June Carter is amazing! She has such a great voice!

  • great!! thanks for shareing!

  • I would rather hear her sing it true as she does without any direction. The emotion is true. God bless June and John

  • god your funny lol

  • Notice how in command she is of the song. As she says, she was born with this song, so she has the right to educate these young musicians. Notice the ending of this vid. You gotta have the heart and story in the song not just the technique!

  • daddysoulmanrich- that made me laugh so much I spit out my water. lolololol.

    It's disrespectful thoug, but funny.

  • ooh ooh what did he say?? lol

  • june, you were a entertainer to the end.

i'm glad i saw you (and mom) all those years ago when you came to england .

    WHAT A FAMILY

  • notice how the chinese lady is fanning her?

  • this was very close to the time she died ,she was very ill and had a really bad heart ...

  • such a great song by two of the most wonderful american artists. see the love between then!

  • There will never be another duo as great as June and Johnny, may you both RIP

  • what a wonderful video, she reminds me of my dear old aunt who passed away several years ago.

They were great people. About the "faning lady" that's a country thing. My granny always was a faning. use to get those fans from the funeral homes as an advertising device.

  • We attempt to embody the ultimate paradox in America; we worship youth and wisdom. When we see wisdom, we cringe because there is no youth there.

  • Wow this is a great thought, Daisy. You're right...I recently heard that the Native Americans believed that the death of an old person was like the burning of a library.

  • I don't care. Still cool...

  • Johnny says, Yes, we always want to do Wildwood Flower...which is compliment to June as it was her Carter family's signature, trademark song. He sounds so sincere that it was a generous comment. June was beautiful, always, and she was ALWAYS so animated when she was performing, so it isn't surprising that she is animated there in her chair while she is singing. Poignant recording....

  • this is sad...

  • June was, is, and always will be great.. no matter how old or young.. anyone who cant appreciate is out of there mind. Her beauty comes out in everything she sings.

  • trop beau trop fort exellent !!!j'adore !!!

  • wonderful!!!sums it up!!!

  • junes not demented, ill but she knew what she was doing.i love this vid, takes you into their life for a few mins, amazing.

  • Quite touching, no matter how long you live life is so short.

  • I look up to June and Johnny soo much! They are my idols. I wish they were still alive!

  • June was good, but no one could hold a candle to her mother, Maybelle Carter when it came to playing and singing.

  • Such a beautiful soul, like the rest of the Carter Family. Feet on the ground, rooted in the Earth, and singing from the heart. Johnny Cash was a very, very lucky man to live with such a wonderful woman for all those years.

  • that women fanning june looks funny. no offence

  • June Carter Cash was just like her legendery Mother, Maybelle. She was a very caring, compassionate, down-to-earth lady who found such joy in making her music to the very end, and she loved the people and fans with all of her heart. June, like Maybelle, was the REAL DEAL. Considering "when" this was recorded and the circumstances, this is a precious piece of video. Thank you so much for posting it.

  • This is wonderful footage, however painfull to watch. Thank you!

  • I am THRILLED you have put this on You Tube. She is not demented, she is filled with the spirit of the music of her family and the joy of creating it again with them

  • that was really neat to see!

  • It was SOOO wonderful to see them get older and still continue to write and sing music.

  • That too. :))

  • I love the way she wants to just get up and dance! Beautiful woman! Great video!!!

  • I just finished reading John Carter Cash's book about his mom called Anchored in Love...The woman fanning Miss June is Anna Bisceglia, one of her faithful"Ladoes in Waiting" as she called them...I highly reccomend this book. You will not finish it without a box of kleenex...

  • They were in that recording cabin Johnny built...(Had to point that out.) June is so entirely wonderful in every way...It was SOOO sad to see them get older and still continue to write and sing music. Johnny still recorded even after June died...This video was cool, thnx for posting.

  • she is glorias even as an old woman, thats rare

  • I love how there's a woman fanning her down during the session. I also love how both her and Johnny were making music up to the very end. I miss both of them.

  • i luv her accent!!!!!

  • they both were pretty ill ,,,, but, their spirit and "the music goes on" is so amazing....such dedication, love and history!

    Thank you!

  • What a beautiful woman x

  • Thank you so much for sharing this video with us. I am still a big fan.

  • hey mama

  • Thanks so much for posting

    I always loved Wildwood Flower

June and Johnny were the best

  • man this was less than a year before she died and she looked really healthy. Her and Johnny deserved more years together.

  • i love june she is such a sweetheart. great voice !!

  • lol Johnny Cash is such a badass.

  • do you mean it in a good way?

  • Is there any other way to take it when it comes to Johnny?

  • I thought you meant it in a good way but people rated your comment as a bad one, geez...

  • Amazing, thanks for sharing, yes this is great YouTube

  • I like the lady fanning June

  • Beautiful video-- thank you so much for posting it. THIS is the great thing about You Tube!

  • Beautiful video-- thank you so much for posting it. THIS is the great thing about You Tube!

  • Love that Song

  • Thanks ...

  • What a privilege, to see and hear this incredible session. Brings a lump to my throat every time. Two great people surrounded by their faily in the evening of their life. Wonderful, beautiful. RIP June and Johnny, and thank you.
