  • I noticed that the craft in the underwater video does a micro-pause every few seconds. I notice that in a lot of animations, even in every episode of Star Trek The Next Generation. Yet I see the odd animation that flows seamlessly. Any idea what causes that and how to smooth it out? Perhaps you could do a tutorial about it?

  • @ascannerdarkly1000 sometimes it has to do with framerate and screencapture programs. In the case of old Star Trek stuff it could be due to transcoding from 24 FPS to 29.97 frames per second. Sometimes my Maya setting are at 24 FPS but I create a .MOV output at 30 FPS and forget to output at 24 FPS. These things are at the heart of the issue. Hope that helps.

  • Is there a tutorial on the bubble emitter, I can't help thinking I missed something there?

  • @NoFaithNoPain Again, sorry I'm so late on this response! The bubble emitter I think is just a simple particle emitter (points_omni) parented to the underwater vessel. Hope that helps. Check out the Dust and Smoke particle tutorial for more info on using an omni particle emitter with points attached! OK? Hope all is well with you!

  • Your explanations are to the point and understandable. I've always had a problem moving around and looking for things in maya, but the way you explain things helped a lot thank you.

  • great tutorial, great tutor, nice learning time i enjoyed again

  • you sound exactly like a friend of mine ^^ Andreas, is that you?

  • @frankytap Nope, sorry....This is Jeff Goldblum and I'm a famous movie star....perhaps you have heard of Brendlefly?

  • great tutorial. i dont have time but i added it to my favs to watch later. this is my favourite channel of whole youtube. Thank you!

  • Is there a way to make the "caustic" effect on the bottom a little wider, as in decreasing the number of refractions for larger scenes? The scene they put into is about 330.00 and when I zoom out it looks too busy.

  • @RavenReverend Yes, you should check out the Lambert 1 shader, it has a node attached called ocean1 and there are a bunch of settings for stuff. Take a look at the Scale setting and switch it to about 0.900 or so and that should make it a lot less busy. As well, try to keep at a low angle to the ocean floor and it will look much better than overhead "looking down" type angles. Hope that helps.

  • Thank you so much for this man! It's people like you that make learning 3D animation possible!

  • How do you come into the hypershade menu ?

  • @Apebamsen1991 Just go to Window - Rendering Editors - Hypershade and that should do the trick!

  • @deepfriedectoplasm Oki :) thanks

  • thanx man, and can u teach me how to render in maya as video... please help me

  • @rogoooor1 check out my actual You-Tube Channel and look through the tutorials, there's one there called Maya Software Render (works the same with Mental Ray essentially) and this will guide you through the process of outputting your image sequence. You can also use Fcheck to Open an image sequence and then "Save As" a movie. Hope that helps.
