I bought sigma brushes one year ago. Eyeshadow brushes in natural hairs do not remain "compact" enough to be precise. Brushes that are stained in black, in the contact of a liquid (even the " stippling brush " which applies the foundation !), leave grey tracks on the skin. And I use an adapted product to clean them, and they dry in a " brush guard "... I really don't understand what is the issue with this product.

These do shed at first but I've had mine for awhile and most of them do not shed the worst offender in terms of shedding is no doubt the blending brush. I, like Wayne, was not pleased with the pencil brush or the angled e/s brush - just not good both are too flimsy and hard to work with so I hardly use these two.

I actually love my Sigma brushes, unlike MAC, you can easily email the Sigma owner and she immediately starts to work on better brushes. Plus, if you manage to get a bad batch, they'll send you a new one absolutely free with 2-3 shipping.
Thank you for such an honest review on Sigma. Unfortunately I got caught up in the sigma hype and bought a couple of sets when the few Nars and Mac brushes I had were just fine and what I still continue to reach for. If you need brushes I would recommend them, not so much if you already have some good ones.

5 stars from me! I've been dying to but these brushes because of all of the gurus recommending them. I still do plan on buying them because I'm still a beginner so I'm not going to go all out just yet. When I do gain more experience i'm definitely going by your advice/reviews for high end brushes. this really is the best sigma review I have ever seen, I liked the colors of the eye shadows, too bad the quality isnt so good. I did buy some of the Sigma brushes, I luckily got a great batch, no shedding and they work great, and I agree with u they are mac knockoffs but thats what attracts ppl to Sigma, they want cheaper version of Mac brushes. I think its better to just save your money and buy good brushes as u can afford them, not necessarily Mac, I love my Laura Mercier brushes the best.
i hate the sigma brushes, i've had mine for a year now and from the very first day i got them they've sheded, the dyes ran from the dark bristles and the handle of my ss252 is bent but thats probably due to shipping to scotland, but honestly the worst money ever spent. :)
@kakaroxox Yes exactly so ppl need to remember that just about all brushes shed, ever super expensive ones. It has nothing to do with how much u paid for them, it has to do with getting a bad batch. You should have returned it. I bought a mac 187 and it shed and I returned it, then I got a Laura Mercier duo fibre finishing brush, same exact brush as mac 187 and it doesnt shed, paid the same amount for it. Laura has awesome brushes.

Hey Wayne!! Looking studly as ever! Love the review! I'm a big Sigma fan...I have the brush roll and all of them are such high quality. I've had em for a year now and they hold up to multiple washes. I haven't had a problem with shedding at all. I had no idea that one brush was called a lay down brush but now that you mention it, it makes perfect sense! :) You kick arse, Wayne..I miss ya!
what would you recommend for those of us who want sun protection but don't know how to incorporate it into our makeup routine? i currently use a physical sunblock under my makeup but it would be wonderful to hear your opinion on this.

I had a terrible experience with these. I feel like I wasted my money. I could have gotten two or three mac brushes that will last forever (well not forever, but very long time). These look great online, but in person, quality meets reality = FAIL.
I don't own expensive brushed and I bought these brushes 6 months ago. I have had no issues with them and am actually quite happy to have something in my price range. I appreciate so much that your review was honest but not brutal. You continued to provide your opinion and yet not turn me off in the way you delivered your message.

@Baggravation That's true, but it can be equally hard for gurus to say good staff about the products they got for free because they could be accused of being dishonest (by YT viewers)! :-)
I just bought this set for my mum, I think they are great brushes for the $. Two of the big ones and the blending brush do shed a bit, but nothing to be worried about.
BTW, I am sure that MAC will soon copy on of the Sigma brushes, the amazing SS197!
i like how you really moved the bristles around. when you do that, you can really see that a lot of the brushes aren't very firm. good to know, thanks wayne!!!

I think these brushes are great... I only had some sheding with the 109,134 more or less... none of the stippling brushes shed with me, even though I have washed them about 15 times...Compared to my mac brushes, they shed just as much....

My sigma brushes shed aswell, and i washed them in the beginning to make them stop, but sometimes its just so freakin annoying and it wont stop! Im glad you are honest about the brushes, cause some makeup gurus on youtube, isnt that honest. Thats why I bought them, but they never said those things you said. So, thank you again wayne! try and smile a little bit more :D
Re Sigmaa brushes shedding - the real thing I wannt to know is - after you've washed it and used it five or six times, is it STILL shedding? if it is, then that's a problem to me... if not, then great :) But when you first get it, the first five or six uses, and first wash, I totally expect some shedding. If you can, pls let us know how the shedding Sigma brushes work after washing and using a bit.
@albionangel Hi! my sigma brushes are about 8 months old now, and the face brushes, is still shedding, even the ss224. its pretty bad sometimes, and I thought it would stop, but it didnt. maybe I just got a bad batch as wayne said. I like the brushes, but its quite annoying that they are shedding that much. but I really recomend that you buy the kabuki style foundation brush they have, its out of stock right now, but its amazing on foundation. :)
@ravnette I really want to try the kabuki when it comes back in stock. i've washed my sigma brushes and taken good care of them and i haven't had too much shedding. The face brush does loose the occasional hair when i wash it though.
@albionangel Ive had my Sigma brushes since Feb. and the face brushes don't shed for me anymore. They did at first but after I washed them a few times it rarely happened again.
I have a blush brush from Mac (125) and it sheads BIG time. Loads. To the point that I tried to take it back to them, and ask for an exchange, and they wouldn't exchange it until I had taken it home and washed it. I'm scared that if I wash it, I will have no hairs left in the brush!
I have a few Mac brushing which I'm really happy with, but not loving the 125. Do you think it's silly for me to want an exchange for a sheading brush?

Great review. :) Can always trust you to be honest. I bought the Sigma set you were sent quite awhile ago and have been very happy with them, but my larger duo fiber brush does leave at least one, possibly two hairs on my face every time I use it, even after several washings. But like you said, it's still worth the money and now I have good tools to work with while I slowly buy up my collection of more professional quality brushes.
Thank you Wayne, for such a clear and honest review. I have been tempted to buy the Sigma brushes and couldn't make up my mind based on other reviews I've seen - the general feeling always seems to be that some of the brushes are better than others. I've now decided to stick with slowly building up my collection of the real deal MAC brushes instead.

only my 109 from the extended brush set sheds. My pencil brush hasnt lost its shape, but then I thought it was too fluffy from the beginning to be used as a MAC 219, so instead I use it as a kinda mini version of the 224, because that one is too fluffy imo, and really too big. If you use the pencil brush as a crease brush instead. For placing color and the more you wash it, the better at blending it becomes too :P
The extended brush set has a 226 dupe and I recommend it over the old brush set.
i agree that from a price point they are awesome brushes...
but can you do a f/u video wayne where you critique them after using them multiple times? - cause i feel like you only critiqued the actual physical form of the brush; it would be awesome if you could do a review based on use... does that make sense?... cause sometimes i buy stuff, look at it and think i won't like it until i actually use it. just a suggestion for a 2nd vid. thanks!!

Great review Wayne! I too liked these brushes when I first received them, I even put myself on the mailing list to purchase the roll when they were back in stock as a back up to the roll I use now. I am so glad that I didn't buy them, as I wash and reuse they shed terribly and there is nothing worse than picking hair off of a client's face! You do indeed get what you pay for! I will use them on myself, but stick to my other roll when I work!
Thanks for the review, Wayne. I think that as time goes by and you use the brushes more, you will become more disappointed with the face brushes. They continue to shed and I eventually threw mine away. The eye brushes are ok but I still have a problem with a company that is such a MAC copycat....even using the exact numbering system.
I really like your honest review. I actually don't have a problem with their brushes though. My set doesn't really shed at all, a couple do a little more than others but not to where it's bad. I love the sigma foundation brush way more than the MAC one. My MAC one is so stiff and actually scratches my face. There is a lot of great MAC brushes but I think they are way overpriced for a brush but I guess everyone has a different opinion.

If you get yourself decent primers it will help them stay on much longer. I do that with colours I love but don't have their own staying power.

I had a terrible experience with these. I feel like I wasted my money. I could have gotten two or three mac brushes that will last forever (well not forever, but very long time). These look great online, but in person, quality meets reality = FAIL.

I don't own expensive brushed and I bought these brushes 6 months ago. I have had no issues with them and am actually quite happy to have something in my price range. I appreciate so much that your review was honest but not brutal. You continued to provide your opinion and yet not turn me off in the way you delivered your message.

I just bought this set for my mum, I think they are great brushes for the $. Two of the big ones and the blending brush do shed a bit, but nothing to be worried about.
BTW, I am sure that MAC will soon copy on of the Sigma brushes, the amazing SS197!

Good, quick review. Its interesting that they're still sending out their old kit to be reviewed, when their new kit has just been launched.

I think these brushes are great... I only had some sheding with the 109,134 more or less... none of the stippling brushes shed with me, even though I have washed them about 15 times...Compared to my mac brushes, they shed just as much....

I bought my set of Sigma Brushes when they first came out. Unfortunately, the face brushes have always shed from the beginning. Based on all the comments about the face brushes shedding, I don't think it's a matter of having a bad batch. Thank you, Wayne, for your honest review.

Why don't you try brushes in Japanese brand such as Shiseido, Shu uemura or Hakuhodo? It never shed and have very good quality. ^^

My sigma brushes shed aswell, and i washed them in the beginning to make them stop, but sometimes its just so freakin annoying and it wont stop! Im glad you are honest about the brushes, cause some makeup gurus on youtube, isnt that honest. Thats why I bought them, but they never said those things you said. So, thank you again wayne! try and smile a little bit more :D

Re Sigmaa brushes shedding - the real thing I wannt to know is - after you've washed it and used it five or six times, is it STILL shedding? if it is, then that's a problem to me... if not, then great :) But when you first get it, the first five or six uses, and first wash, I totally expect some shedding. If you can, pls let us know how the shedding Sigma brushes work after washing and using a bit.

@albionangel Hi! my sigma brushes are about 8 months old now, and the face brushes, is still shedding, even the ss224. its pretty bad sometimes, and I thought it would stop, but it didnt. maybe I just got a bad batch as wayne said. I like the brushes, but its quite annoying that they are shedding that much. but I really recomend that you buy the kabuki style foundation brush they have, its out of stock right now, but its amazing on foundation. :)

@ravnette I really want to try the kabuki when it comes back in stock. i've washed my sigma brushes and taken good care of them and i haven't had too much shedding. The face brush does loose the occasional hair when i wash it though.

@albionangel Ive had my Sigma brushes since Feb. and the face brushes don't shed for me anymore. They did at first but after I washed them a few times it rarely happened again.

I think most brushes shed. Every one of my MAC
brushes shed. I still love them. I just have to make sure I
pick all the hairs off my face before I walk out of the house. :)
As long as it's not excessive I think it's alright. For instance
the MAC 109 is a beautiful brush but unusable due to how
much it sheds (those of you that have the 109 know what
I'm talking about). And that brush is what? 28-30 bucks?
I think these makeup companies have to have their feet
held to the fire more!

I have a blush brush from Mac (125) and it sheads BIG time. Loads. To the point that I tried to take it back to them, and ask for an exchange, and they wouldn't exchange it until I had taken it home and washed it. I'm scared that if I wash it, I will have no hairs left in the brush!
I have a few Mac brushing which I'm really happy with, but not loving the 125. Do you think it's silly for me to want an exchange for a sheading brush?

didn't exchange it. As long as you have a receipt you shouldn't
even have to give a reason for wanting to exchange/return something.
I exchange stuff at MAC all the time. Hope you get it resolved.

Great review. :) Can always trust you to be honest. I bought the Sigma set you were sent quite awhile ago and have been very happy with them, but my larger duo fiber brush does leave at least one, possibly two hairs on my face every time I use it, even after several washings. But like you said, it's still worth the money and now I have good tools to work with while I slowly buy up my collection of more professional quality brushes.

Thank you Wayne, for such a clear and honest review. I have been tempted to buy the Sigma brushes and couldn't make up my mind based on other reviews I've seen - the general feeling always seems to be that some of the brushes are better than others. I've now decided to stick with slowly building up my collection of the real deal MAC brushes instead.

i am so gutten i paid for the full make up kit and hardly like any of the colours :( i also was disapointed that i only got one quad!!12 eyeshadows and 4 blush/highlights and one quad!! do like the brushes tho, only have the eye brushes :( i am never happy with them on my face, thanks for a great review xx

only my 109 from the extended brush set sheds. My pencil brush hasnt lost its shape, but then I thought it was too fluffy from the beginning to be used as a MAC 219, so instead I use it as a kinda mini version of the 224, because that one is too fluffy imo, and really too big. If you use the pencil brush as a crease brush instead. For placing color and the more you wash it, the better at blending it becomes too :P
The extended brush set has a 226 dupe and I recommend it over the old brush set.

i agree that from a price point they are awesome brushes...
but can you do a f/u video wayne where you critique them after using them multiple times? - cause i feel like you only critiqued the actual physical form of the brush; it would be awesome if you could do a review based on use... does that make sense?... cause sometimes i buy stuff, look at it and think i won't like it until i actually use it. just a suggestion for a 2nd vid. thanks!!

Great review Wayne! I too liked these brushes when I first received them, I even put myself on the mailing list to purchase the roll when they were back in stock as a back up to the roll I use now. I am so glad that I didn't buy them, as I wash and reuse they shed terribly and there is nothing worse than picking hair off of a client's face! You do indeed get what you pay for! I will use them on myself, but stick to my other roll when I work!

Thanks for the review, Wayne. I think that as time goes by and you use the brushes more, you will become more disappointed with the face brushes. They continue to shed and I eventually threw mine away. The eye brushes are ok but I still have a problem with a company that is such a MAC copycat....even using the exact numbering system.

I really like your honest review. I actually don't have a problem with their brushes though. My set doesn't really shed at all, a couple do a little more than others but not to where it's bad. I love the sigma foundation brush way more than the MAC one. My MAC one is so stiff and actually scratches my face. There is a lot of great MAC brushes but I think they are way overpriced for a brush but I guess everyone has a different opinion.
