On June 24, President Obama admitted that he and his family would not participate in the government regulated health insurance plan being proposed for all the rest of us. Members of Congress would also be exempted from the public plan they think is good enough for the rest of us. If it is so good for the American people, why do our elected officials want to exempt themselves?
Members of Congress already have and always will benefit from public funded health care. Congress, Representatives and Senators receive some of the best health care benefits in the country, and paid for with taxpayer money. These benefits continue even when they leave office.
With my personal experience with a social health care system, and US private system, I prefer the social. I have a lot more freedom with a social structure, as there is no private insurance co getting in the way to deny care, or tell my doctor what procedures I am covered for. I show my health card, get the care I need and go home with no bill. No worries about copay, deductibles & all the private insurance bs. Health care should be a human right to all & should not treated like a commodity.

WalMart started selling hundreds of subscription medications for $5-$10. Now you can get them everywhere that cheaply (free market). That's a perfect example of capitalism working as it should. If the government would stop intruding with its oppressive regulations all medications would be cheap and plentiful. The government never makes anything better, only more expensive. Everybody needs health care, which makes it a perfect "business issue". The free market will make drugs cheap and available.
And let me say one other thing: No one I know is against helping those in need or charity. What we are against is GOVERNMENT RUN charity, where it is full of waste and stealing, where 90% of the money taken in goes to overhead and bureaucracy. Nationalizing health care is just another form of wealth redistribution and interfering with the free market. It's not going to fixing the real problem, it's merely treating the symptoms. The real problem, the reason health care is so expensive, is due to market failure caused by monopolies on drugs and medical equipment production. With my personal experience with a social health care system, and US private system, I prefer the social. I have a lot more freedom with a social structure, as there is no private insurance co getting in the way to deny care, or tell my doctor what procedures I am covered for. I show my health card, get the care I need and go home with no bill. No worries about copay, deductibles & all the private insurance bs. Health care should be a human right to all & should not treated like a commodity.

Before 1965, the health care system was fine, government interventions & regulations is what disabled doctors & hospitals alike from cut rating care or giving the poor free care with no gripe. There is widespread agreement on the need for change in the way health care is delivered in the US, but URGENT need? I think the urgency is to beat the mid term elections when the Democrats will no longer hold a majority in either house of congress.
If you think I'm wrong, pass whatever you can now, but don't let it become effective until 2011. If you think I'm right, slow down just a little bit, let everybody read the bill(s) proposed, and pass something that won't be repealed in 2011.

The idea that government intervention can actually make healthcare less costly and more efficient is simply false. There has never been a single government agency or program that has not been fraught with mismanagement, waste and abuse. I believe the backlash you are seeing has nothing to do with political affiliation and everything to do with the excesses shown by the government in the bailouts and stimulus packages, and the government's total disregard for the American people.

You are not seeing reality. You have a skewed idea of how health care is in America. Health care needs reform, no doubt. However, the government is the worst entity to reform it. We need tort reform and less red tape for the release of new drugs. Let's face it, capitalism and the free market can deliver where government can not. 95% of medial drugs come from the US. Why? Because it is profitable to make them. When it is no longer profitable under Obama, you and I will have no more medicine.

WalMart started selling hundreds of subscription medications for $5-$10. Now you can get them everywhere that cheaply (free market). That's a perfect example of capitalism working as it should. If the government would stop intruding with its oppressive regulations all medications would be cheap and plentiful. The government never makes anything better, only more expensive. Everybody needs health care, which makes it a perfect "business issue". The free market will make drugs cheap and available.

And let me say one other thing: No one I know is against helping those in need or charity. What we are against is GOVERNMENT RUN charity, where it is full of waste and stealing, where 90% of the money taken in goes to overhead and bureaucracy. Let the states create health care if they want it! Letting the Federal government screw up another important institution is just sinful and wrong. They have no constitutional right, or business taking over health care (or GM for that matter).

Nationalizing health care is just another form of wealth redistribution and interfering with the free market. It's not going to fixing the real problem, it's merely treating the symptoms. The real problem, the reason health care is so expensive, is due to market failure caused by monopolies on drugs and medical equipment production. All monopolies are created by the government with patent and copyright grands. The only real solution is to eliminate the patent and copyright systems.

Putting a cap on how much hospitals
(who are in it for the money) and doctors(who should be ashamed of themselves if they are in it for the money) can charge for services, making it illegal for health insurance providers to turn you away due to a pre-existing condition, and basing the amount you will pay in premiums and copays on what you earn (which means alot of Americans will pay little to nothing) is smart. We have to stop thinking
