I never understood why this album was so hated by the music media. To me it sounds like the perfect 2nd album....granted it did take way to damn long to release...maybe the public got tired of waiting. Shame.
Typical tosspot journos panned this album. They hate success, the same happened with Gary Numan post Cars.Liverpool has some great tracks on it, very different to Pleasuredome but still a forgotten classic for me.
The song itself is spiritually euphoric.. and very addictive.. once its in your head you wont get it out for days.. Liverpool was one of their best, shame very few got the pleasure of this fine piece of work.
i have so much frankie stuff from the eighties up in my attic, some pretty rare discs, and they do give maximum joy....."We're rats in a cage Suicide a go go"
I agree - alot of it was due to Trevor Horns mixing. The end product of Frankie Goes To Hollywood was outstanding!
That was my favourite band for a long time, I think I'd have to say Pink Floyd now because of the quantity thye produced, I wish Frankie Goes To Hollywood had kept this up!
The album 'Liverpool' contained some of the best soft rock of the '80's, and whilst the baying pigs of the press decided to concentrate on their sex lives, this band were involved in some of the best music of that decade.
This track, along with 'Lunar Bay', 'Is Anybody Out There', and 'Kill The Pain', demonstrated a depth to their talent which was destroyed by the fucking hateful media, and condemned the best band of the '80's to the shitheap even before they were given the chance to progress.
Finally someone other than me who recognizes the greatness of FGTH's "Liverpool" album! The guys could really play, and Stephen Lipson's and Trevor Horn's production is, as always, impeccable. The music-press-people who slayed this album must all be totally tone-deaf. Most probably those journalists are only envious of FGTH's success.
terrific video.

I still love this song.
There's also a "happy hardcore" style remix on the remix album from around 2003 that is actually still pretty good too.
