i think that zombie was a very good zombie film but COTLD was very poor in my opinion. the only reason i didn't turn it off was because of the gore (and plenty of it too!)

You know when I first saw CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD I didn't think much of the dubbing (and it was cut). But I've seen it a few times now and I've grown to really like it. But ZOMBIE is the Fulci film I like the most.

some of his storylines also seem a bit weak and nonsensical.

the films i have seen of his are seen below in order of preference

1 Zombie

2 The beyond

3 COTLD

Ah well omardogs - the nonsensical plot of a Lucio Fulci film is part of their charm! I personally would rate HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY **** (10) as better than THE BEYOND ***1/2 (10), but I may well be in a minority there. Just make sure you see HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY uncut! While the latest BBFC version of THE BEYOND is uncut, I doubt that HOUSE will get an 18 uncut. BTW star ratings * to ***** and Gore Score 0 to 10. Cont. Pt 2.

Pt 2. CAT IN THE BRAIN (NIGHTMARE CONCERT) **** (10) is great if you haven't seen his later films, since he re-uses many gore scenes from TOUCH OF DEATH and others. If you've already seen the other films then it's ***. Actually CAT is one of his better films. He plays himself as a director of graphic horror films who is being driven to madness! I understand the BBFC version has been cut. Cont. Pt 3.

Pt 3. NEW YORK RIPPER *** (9) can be disappointing if you're expecting a powerful film. It has some exceptionally disturbing imagery, but the quacking duck takes a bit of getting used to and the dialogue isn't so great. But on the whole I do like it. The BBFC version has been cut: a graphic and lingering straight-razor slashing has been trimmed or removed entirely (not sure which). Cont. Pt 4.

Pt 4 (final). One of Fulci's best is TOUCH OF DEATH **** (10) -- his only film made with intentional black humour, so it's OK to laugh. It's very gory, very black and a whole lot of fun. And it contains a plot you can follow! Brett Halsey romances rich women to murder them (in graphic ways) for their money. Contains chainsaw dismemberment in the kitchen (yeehaa!) and the killer having to smooch a women with hairs on her face (uggh!). May not be uncut if BBFC 18.

i want house by cemetery first as it is famous for the gore

they are usually about £12 uncut off ebay - is it worth it for these films (remebering that i am a 16 year old - that means poor!)

HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY uncut was a real eye-opener (most of the gore is confined to the final 30 minutes or so, but it packs a wallop.) Includes one vicious gore-torture killing with a poker, and an incredible throat slicing with a large knife amongst several impressive sequences. Both these scenes are usually trimmed. HOUSE is my next favourite after ZOMBIE. Does not always flow logically, but makes more sense on repeat viewing. (continued)

Is it worth £12 for you? Hmmm -- me personally I'd say yes. But I'm loathe to suggest this is the best way to spend your money. You should make enquiries first as to whether it has been cut by the BBFC (after all I'd never have believed THE BEYOND and ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST would ever be BBFC 18 uncut.) BTW Anchor Bay's THE BEYOND includes the opening sequence in full colour from the German release (German opening titles, English dialogue). Just thought I'd throw that in.
