I WILL GIVE YOU some VERY useful tips. First, build industry far away from the end of the cities and build public transport (only rail or seaport) so they are forced to use public transport and gives you more money. Second, use zones in 1X3 blocks, not 1X1. The more roads you have, less likely for you to have tall BIG buildings.

@tecnican4987 Sorry, I am not good with startup errors or CTDs. The best thing to do is the uninstall the game and reinstall it in its entirety. I have had to do this many times before and it sucks

How did you specify the size of a single industrial zone?

@sodiumandh2o It is called 'creating parcels' and you do it by holding down the ctrl key (i believe) and dragging the box outward. There is an excellent tutorial/write-up about it on simtropolis

Could've started bigger before switching to the industrial city. I prefer to get my economies commerce-based as much as possible, as the pollution from industry plumets land values and creating neighbouring dirty cities only creates large commute times. Eventually high tech industry should emerge. Build schools as soon as possible is my advice.

@Alfacuria If you're talking about the NAM, you can download that at either Simtropolis or at SC4Devotion (i think thats the name). There are steps to follow to ensure that it is downloaded right, but other than that it is very straight-forward.

Polution doesn't travel between cities, so wont affect anything or anyone... The reason behind building it in another city is to stop pollution from spreading over residential areas, and sometimes to increase demand.

you have to make sure to start off really close to the industrial city until your citizens get smart enough to begin working at commercial buildings. If that still doesn't fix it, make sure that you're building enough industrial in order to keep up with the demand for the residential.

You're playing on hard mode whereas I play on easy mode. I think Sim City is pointless to play on hard because it takes a lot of the fun of designing a decent city out of the game.

There is a way to configure your own region, but I never learned how to do it well. I just create a new region and most of the time it is the luck of the draw

That is a long list that, unfortunately due to a computer change, I no longer have.

I downloaded the NAM as well as all of Kevdan25's restaurants and a good portion of simgoober's lots. I also downloaded the Medium Wealth Residential lot mod to help with realism.

Hey how do you increase the demands for industrial? For some reason there's a high demand for residential. What type of terrain is good for industry?

very flat terrian is good for industrial. If you are having a high residential demand then that means that there are still jobs left that people would like to fill. Zone some residential to the point where either the res. demand drops off or the industrial demand rises again.

I think it only does that for industrial zones. All other zones have their own parcels and are connected to a street/road.

The only real mod I use is the NAM (Network Addon Modd). It basically is an overhaul to the current transportation system in Sim City 4. As far as the city, try just managing ever aspect of the game. I usually nerver mess with taxes because my zones always fill up with people ready, willing and able to pay for their goods and homes.

yeop ...if you go to the BSC exchange , you can get nice industrial building ....I think most people are scared away from heavy industr ..just make some parks ....heavy Indy rakes in the money

no need to cheat ...just get some good med/dirty industry going with a railroad ..make it close the edge and send the short trips of freight to the neighbors ..then make water and housing ...

I can get about 2-3000 sims going with only spending around 1000

You can download them at simtropolis. I'll post the link on your channel. Just simply click on download and then save it to your 'plugins' folder and then right click on the zipped folder and click on 'unzip' or 'extract' and set the extraction folder to your plugins folder.

Yea, I'll admit that the terrain is a little (a lot) lacking in character, but when I started this series I wanted to make it so that I would have sure fire success with growth and my zoning techniques. If I make another series I will definately download a pretty intersting map for ya ;)

thank you, I had a little bit of a scare the other day when one of the plugins didn't agree with me and wouldn't let me open it. Long story short 4 hours later and a ton of plugins taken out and put back in, I was able to finish the city i'm working on. Expect a video pretty shortly

Umm, In case you didn't know, if you press shift while zoning, it gets rid of roads that would be placed. Anyway, cool videos and nice cities!

I have yet to figure out how to get skyscrapers. I got pretty close today though. I think if I had a larger square, I could have done it. But I had no room to place ANYTHING anymore.

Yea, I had a couple ideas to try and get back into Sim City because I stopped playing for a while, so I decided to try and build a decently realistic region. The videos are a little long, but I'll shorten them up once I start getting into the other cities, you know, just let everyone see how those cities will shape up. ;)

Yup, skyscrapers need a well designed infrastructure and supporting cities to get them to their full potential.
