@robertsulley - when it messes up, the up-looking camera will not recognize the part and command the head to throw the part out and repeat the pick up. When it fails to pickup the part repeatedly, it suspends the mounting process and waits for assistance.
@aquaticinstruments so the up looking camera verifies the part has been captured in that pause between the pickup and the board? would it be possible to use a suction sensor to verify the component has been picked instead of visually verifying or is that more troublesome? it would save time as it would know immediately and wouldn't need to pause midway...
@rodjownsu - it is possible to use vacuum sensor to confirm positive pickup, but it will not cover all possible failure modes, for example, when a part jumps out of the pocket and gets picked up by its side. Vision verification works much better in this case.

That thing is quick for a home made machine! I like the component feed 'action', simple but effective. Does it ever mess up?

@imogetta - The software is from Madell Technology. Quite expensive but worth it. Look it up on their web under PnP parts.
