  • Listening makes me want to kill many Frenchman in a cold northern French field. Weird ah?

  • Chuck Norris watches this every morning.

  • Fuck off, you Communit wankers, We will take our country back from the juvinile ass oles that have no labour in our herald but I swear that I will leave that you shalt have no place to dwell when the commoner and his loyal barons dispose of you by the 'umble word.

  • This reminds me of George W. Bush when he told America we were going into Iraq; less the delivery and the cogent parts.

  • 71 English speaking Frenchmen have watched this video.

  • That's Christian Bale at 1:45 :))))

  • 45% Eddie Izzard, 45% William Hague

  • The Battle of Agincourt

    English Dead: 112

    French Dead: 7-10 Thousand

  • This is usually referred to as the St Crispen's(Crispin and Crispian where patron saints ) Day Speech. Shakespeare penned this work nearly two hundred years after the battle of Agincourt(1415). It is thought one of the most dramatic, and finest representation of what leadership was in the Middle Ages. The English did win the battle of Agincourt against the French. They were ailing, demoralized and had fewer men than the French, yet prevailed victorious! True Valor. Not sure about Christian Bale!

  • when ever I watch this I get strong feeling to kill as many frenchmen as I can in some muddy northern french feild. Weird ah.

  • I am a proud American good king, but I would fight by your side any time, any place and against any foe.

  • Best speech of all time you mean

  • From music, costume, set designs, and (most importantly) acting, this film captures Shakespeare's vibe

  • I wonder if the guy the costable sent was able to memorize all that.

  • @RitaoNagai Definitely. He is a herald -- Montjoie being his name of office -- and thus not only an expert of heraldry (the art of coats-of-arms) but also a professional diplomat. Heralds had to remember thousands of blazons, technical descriptions of armorial bearings, at the time, so such a message is nothing. Modern heralds such as Lord Thomas Woodcock, Garter Principal King of Arms, usually use extensive libraries though they still have to remember a lot lest they copy something.

  • Ron Paul 2012!!!

  • Branagh prances about like he's on a stage. Enunciates way too much. Unnecessary for film, it does disservice to this bad ass speech.

PS. I actually love Branagh in Shakespeare, just not in this scene.

  • Well I am french, but that speech still give me shivers everytime I watch it. Would a leader inspire me like that, I think I'd pick up a random weapon and charge an army alone in the minute... Shakespeare's skill, Brannagh talent... meh, epicness !

(and yeah we got spanked quite hard in Azincourt, which will remain one of the biggest french loss, even though Shakespeare has a bit played with numbers for the sake of the play. Oh sad sad day *winks*...)

  • There are no words for how incredible this is.

  • This got me so pumped up!

  • what is the meaning of this speech?

    - please

  • @RedeemedRaiding What he is saying is that they are all equal as brothers fighting against one foe. They are to all bleed as one regardless whether they are of noble birth or commoner and live on through history, as the names of that battle have.

  • Well Shakespeare just owned bravehart.

  • 70 people hold their manhoods cheap!

  • What can i say we are BRITISH! From BRITANNIA!!! Plus there was around 500 English Deaths sadly but wait for it.. 10,000! French Deaths.. i cant help but smile.. i think we should "ALL" always know that a knight! is in the man! not his armour ;) Long Live The English Gentlement! ME AND YOU!

  • None of the comments here were made by folks who didn't know if they would see tomorrow. Sad that should even comment on these brave men.

  • @jimtraner You're a Legend, this is exactly what I was thinking.

  • great music

  • Independence Day: President Speech :D

  • @Gruenkreuz100 keep copying yank ;)

  • @youkn0wme i'm not a yank ;) i just realized it while i was watching this vid :D but i prefer king henry :)

  • @Play3DS Good to see another person that appreciates the fact that one cannot have deep and genuine understanding of the past unless one realises that people's values, attitudes and beliefs were different then. the killing of prisoners was not uncommon in medieval warfare, and if Henry is accused of war crimes, then Joan of Arc should be also be the same standard as she had prsioners killed too.

  • anyone wondering what happens.. they win

  • @weeleon81 Very comfortably.. Very!

  • LOL at 3:34 the horse is even scared of Henry's voice.

  • is that the guy who plays gildaroy lockhart in the second harry potter film?

  • Ridiculously epic.

  • Christian Bale sighting at 1:45?

  • @masterels Yep, this was, I think, his second film role, after his introduction in "Empire of the Sun".

  • @masterels looks like him. good catch.

  • @Play3DS The whole mention of 'war crimes' at Agincourt is a Prime example of how people today are constantly judging those of the past by our own Modern standards. To historians this is an anathema. We should look at events like this from that standards of THAT time rather than THIS one. One fact that is rarely mentioned is that Henry actually rescinded the order to kill the prisoners once he realised the French were in retreat, and would not make a frech attack.

  • "Space out over the next one hundred mondays but right now!"

  • Hey, i didn't realize Christian Bale was in this scene...

  • Comment removed

  • it's gilderoy lockhart!

  • FIRST AND VANNATTER UP! :D

  • why did they let ''Make him a member of the gentry, even if he is a commoner. '' out???

  • He really was a war criminal- committed terrible atrocities agains the French civilians- nothing to glorify here.

  • @shamalama68 So did the allies during WWII. The truth sucks. Get used to it. I'd much more prefer to put on my rosy colored glasses and get goosebumps from a Big Pimpin' king.

  • @shamalama68 He's an English King. There is no such thing as "Atrocities against the French", in fact opinion at the time (and still held by a few today) was that the only noble thing a frenchman could hope to achieve in his lifetime was to die at the hands on an Englishman!

  • @slysci There were atrocities on both sides, and the French are known to have killed prisoners too, like at Jargeau in 1430.They just dont mention this very often. No side is ever innocent in war, and some leaders were worse than others. John of Bedford for instance was quite honourable, he is known to have executed soldiers for killing French innocents (and some French writers could not understand why) but Talbot was quite brutal by contrast.

  • @shamalama68 what a load of tripe you talk they the french we not exactly innocent and are responsible for the deaths of many british people in history

  • I had to memorize this for English

  • I memorized this whole thing for a school talent show and won.

  • Could someone make a video with clips of movies over this audio? That would be cool.

  • Can you subtitle this please.

  • Great play, great speech.Shakespeare is the master of English Litrature.

  • 1:44 omfg! christian bale is sooooo tiny!!!! lol

  • 1:44 Christian Bale, even Batman fought with them........

  • @jbravo41 I just notice that!

  • @jbravo41 England is badass like that :P

  • @jbravo41 LMAO

  • What a powerful inspirational speech!

  • And it all went to the muslims and blacks in the end. What a waste of good words.

  • 67 gentlemen in England, now a bed, did not like this speech

  • Yes, that is the future Batman at 1:46, listening to these awesome words.

Let criminals beware! You are a cowardly, superstitious lot! And I fought with Harry, the King upon St. Crispin's Day!!!!

  • imagine if everyday speech was like this

  • and then a third of them got slaughtered :(

  • @blueray1969 Are you fucking stupid?? You must be, because Saint Crispin's Day was one of England's most incredible victories over the French. Approximately 6-9k English troops against 36000 French troops. England suffered approximately 112 casualties, while the French had 7-10 thousand casualties. I never knew a third of 9 thousand was 112.

  • @Callingyou22 no potty-mouth, it seems you are. do some more tricky history than what you looked up in Wikipedia and find out what proportion of these men ever got home. not just from this battle, but the rest of the campaign.

  • @blueray1969

Wiki argument dont really hold as its damn accurate these days, and referenced :) And thats all thats required

  • @Retsam19 really? how would you verify information you find in wikipaedia? By seeing what people write in U Tube?

  • @blueray1969

By going to wikipedia, reading a paragraph of information and then checking its reference. the references are at the bottom of the page if you didnt know. Its no different than how a book on the same subject is written, both use references. And a lot of the wiki editors are university scholars, how one earth do you think a page on quantum mechanics could be that accurate otherwise?

  • @Retsam19 oh, is that what all those hyperlinks are for?

  • He sounds like William Hague on Question Time

  • 1:44 christian bale lol.

  • how good are the battle scenes in this movie please reply ?

  • BEST BATTLE SPEECH EVER!

  • The music alone from this movie makes me feel like I could change the world. Have a listen if you can.

  • Why doesn't anyone ever make fucking speeches like this anymore? Where are the liberators in today's society? Eloquent Speech should be a class taught in school.

  • 1:55 that's part of ferb's speech in phineas and ferb

  • It would have been really awkward had it not rained that day

  • Wanna have a laugh? Press the doble CC before the 480p and click on transcribe audio.

  • @Mrsniperkillermen It's the original old English dialogue that Shakespeare wrote.

  • @Mrsniperkillermen I thought that would be mildly amusing. but I havent laughed this hard in ages XD

  • @Mrsniperkillermen thank you

  • @Mrsniperkillermen WTF do people who don't speak English think Shakespeare is?!

  • @Mrsniperkillermen Hahahaha.

  • 956 years ago, Henry V said that. 25 October 1415-25 october 2011

  • @Mrsniperkillermen Well, it's certainly what Shakespeare said he said. :)

  • @Mrsniperkillermen

    Isn't it 597 Years ago?

  • Comment removed

  • @Mrsniperkillermen It's definitely 596 years ago

  • What were the French thinking? We had Batman AND Brian Blessed on our side... we couldn't lose. ;)

  • @sword4thelord Don't forget Bilbo Baggins!! Maybe not the strongest hobbit, of all, but yet he survived a dragon AND the Ring....

  • Happy St. Crispin's to those of you for whom it is already the 25th.

  • Why is it, the more and more that I watch this as it's anniversary approaches, that I want to hear William Shatner do a version of this speech?

  • "That fought with us upon SAINT CRISPIN'S DAY!"

    Goosebumps.

  • Why do i have the feeling that this is the same speech he gave to the cast and crew of the movie?

  • Kenneth Branagh.... The greatest Shakespearean actor of our generation.

  • Is it just me, or is this actor so good, that I can almost hear Shakespear's voice through him, echoing through the ages, in the those who still understand the mighty power of words?

  • is henry V the same guy as in harry potter 2 as the fraud?

  • It is incredible how much Shakespeare can inspire, even to this day.

  • Did anyone else notice a young Christian Bale at 1:44?

  • @LegionnaireEtrangere is it him?, it looks like him

  • @LegionnaireEtrangere yeah that's him

  • Let me speak proudly

  • It makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck. This was when ENGLAND (not Britain!) was great!

  • It's hard to imagine a time when a leader, let alone a King, intermingled with the everyman. Instead of "lowering" himself to the commoners, Henry V said those who fought with him would be his brothers. There is no snobbery in how he moves through his subjects. He treats them with affection. As genuine friends. As equals. That... is a leader. It makes the heart swell.

  • @Tarwater03 cos he needs them... like any government or company..But when no longer useful how do you think they were treated.. to dinner at the castle?

  • Henry V. One of the greatest and bravest kings that ever lived, the battle of agincourt was one of the most memroble battles ever and who was the king, Henry V. 6000 Englishmen vs 20,000 French. 10,000 french died that day and only 520 englishmen died, that shows how great the english are!

  • King Harry. I would have followed that man to any death. Not many men can rally soldiers in such a way. I'm not even English, I'm American. But hey, I know bravery, honor, and character when I see it.

  • It is this day that those who seek that divide between our world and the rest shall see that it was in the time of Shakespeare that he knew the words of Humanism how we are all equal before what ever force controls our lives.

Not those that hold money and minds but the lives of thse days rest upon its ground. Ground not owned nor Captured but it who hast formed the ground

  • Any time I think Shakespeare is overrated I just watch this and realize how wrong I am. I tear up every time. Every time.

  • Dark ones took the monarchy long ago. Find your strength in teh Spirit, devoid of offices long corrupted.

  • I've just reenacted this scene in Tesco, meat isle. Can you fucking believe I got arrested?

  • @thegafferlives o_O clearly Tesco employees never read Henry V... how dare they to call the police for observing the speech that brought victory to Hundred Year's War?!

You should have re-enacted it ON St Crispin's Day, though. October 25th!

  • @thegafferlives wow, i loled so hard...thanks for letting us know! hahaha

  • @thegafferlives

Hahahahahahaha - sure it's late but what you gonna do?

  • Even listening to this, it's hard to forget Project Skin Horse. Unity! Tip! Sweetheart! Where are you when I need you! D~

  • i could kill anyone with this speech, gives me goosebumps

  • ハリポタのギルデロイ・ロックハートの人?

  • And this is why Britain should not shun away her monarch, This is in our blood!

  • @sgtsolo1

    Agreed!

  • @sgtsolo1 ..PLEASE!!...like the modern royals are anything more than a bunch of money grabbing, greedy bastards!

  • @BENTLEYQUAMP Believe it or not they actually generate a massive amount of money for our country, search this:

"The True Cost of the Royal Family Explained"

    its quite interesting actually :)

  • @sgtsolo1 ..lol...don`t take this the wrong way....but you are the most polite person i`ve ever met on yt..

  • @BENTLEYQUAMP Haha, I take that as a compliment :) But even when im being good mannered i still get into my fair share of arguements, I guess I haven't met anyone I disagree with on this video maybe because its so... English :D

  • @sgtsolo1 ..lol....well good luck to you.

  • @BENTLEYQUAMP lmao :)

  • @sgtsolo1 ...except that this is a fictitious portrayal. So it's not in your blood.

  • @MichaelTheOliver Wrong, Henry the 5th is based on fact, its a historical biography of a king And a man that conquered a third of France. This is Shakespeare, not Hollywood.

  • @sgtsolo1 - Britain should demand a monarch which actually leads for the interest, prosperity, and uplift of the English & British people instead of foreign interests and alien invasion.

  • @willyrobinson I totally agree, our old queen is nice and all but she hasn't "defended our laws". Maybe She Is a role model, But she isn't the kind of monarch we need.

  • I wanna fight now..............anyone? lol

  • Facebook :D

  • Is this available in Klingon?

  • i dont understand most of what hes saying... i know the words... but they dont make sense.

  • 1:44 its christian bale!!!

  • @alexparkalal is that actually him?!?!?! :D

  • @sgtsolo1 lol never mind i checked and its him, he looks so damn young!

  • @sgtsolo1 lol never mind i checked and its him, he looks so damn young!

  • @sgtsolo1 yeah someone told me he started with shakesperarean stuff

  • @alexparkalal holy shit youre right!

  • why do people have to flame after a great video

    people haven't changed

people are no different then they where 500 years ago

    war never changes

  • Such beautiful language - oh how I wish Shakespearian english was still around.

  • @Griffinltd Definitively, i never understood it at first, but when you finally understand it its something quite magical :)

  • UKIP

  • no, not the best speech from the play but the best speech of all time.

  • @trap9876 Yes, and where are the Caucasians and negroes in Bollywood?

  • do you think there will ever be a day that shakespeare's work wont be celebrated? I think not.

  • WE FEW, WE HAPPY FEW... WE BAND OF BROTHERS!

  • Agincourt was one of the those rare times where the advance in military technology far outstripped military strategy leading to the defeat of the French. The days of armor were over. btw, the next time such a confluence like that happened it was WW1...

  • Yo wtf I see Christian Bale! LOL

  • @luckygreensocks Oh christ! your rightl!!

  • Do you have a link to the battle scene of this one movie?

  • Comment removed

  • The French stood against the English 6 to 1. And the English held the field.

  • @h44Nor we did have a little help from the weather and local geology.... and the stupidity of our opponents. Henry played a master stroke... drawing the French up a funnelled plateau of thick mud where they were treading all over one another trying to effectively crawl out of glue as arrows rained down into the kill zone making escape even more impossible.

  • @sword4thelord and oh was it beautiful

  • Those were the days....when we English were lions led by lions.....unike now, where we are lions led by dickheads!
