It's not really a mushroom, it's a combination of self sustaining bacteria and yeasts that transform sugar and tea into lactic acids and other enzymes that can work with your body to detoxify and assist in whatever your body can find use for it.

According to the American Cancer Society there is zero scientific evidence supporting health claims by Kombucha Tea. However there have been reports of serious side-effects, and even several deaths linked to Kombucha tea.
@justintrayford@justintrayford -no side effects have EVER been documented, yet this culture has been used for over 3000 doc years....Chinese and Egyptian history documents this bacterio-yeast combo. no deaths.., no allergic reactions, just people who are uneducated and speaking from there perspective nether regions, like yourself.
@PhuqueU I am very much in your corner.. I have preached the dangers of Fluoride for many years. I even made a "Pineal Gland cleanser" for my people, a mixture of iodine, melatonin, (monatomic) gold, frankincense and myrrh, that flushes Fluoride from your system and brings back your dreams.
Anyway, I am not advocating the use of tap water for anything, but I have, through my studies, found that the Kombucha scoby has some alchemical method of neutralizing Fluoride in tap water. JustSoYouKnow!
@danieklerr That was funny, I'm not sure if I should take you serious or not. I suspect your people just try to suck the poison out. In any case, I'm sure other people's would. Anyway, can you point readers to any documentation regarding the removal of fluoride by Kombucha?
Very nice examples of Kombucha mothers and daughters. I have been drinking Kombucha for 2 weeks. My husband for 1 week. He sleeps better and has more energy for work. I found that I sleep better, have no desire for junk food anymore, eat less at a meal, and have more energy during the day. Both of us experience a tiredness every third day...which we attribute to detox...and then, after it passes, we seem to have even more energy.
do you grow it? today my teacher was showing us and teaching us about kombucha. it look really weird and nobody wanted to taste it but i did. so does it give you a lot of energy? do you like it? im going to grow some.
you are quite welcome, mowglyana! i am glad to share this information and i am glad that i am living proof that it really works and isn't just a "fad.":^) if it's been in practice for at least 2,000 years, how can it be a fad...? here's to your health! namaste
trable, and my metabolism is revved up yet i don't need to eat more than "feeling satisfied [as opposed to "full"]...." that's all that comes to mind at the moment:^D supposedly, it just makes your body more efficient and acts as a human "mycorrizhae," allowing your body to get the most out of everything you put into it. it costs me about $3 to make a gallon and a half, and i plan to drink it for the rest of my life. i prefer mine at ~70 deg F, and drink it faster than it can "go bad...."
thank you for your insightful comment! its great to hear about how what kombucha has done for people, and it looks like it has done a lot for you too!
....ailments are from toxicities. when they are being removed manifestations of some start to wane. the "vinegary" taste comes from a few acids made in the ferment; acetic, gluconic, glucoronic just to name a few. i've been drinking it for daily for about 27 months now, and my eczema is gone, my pre-arthritis is forgettable, my g.i. tract is more balanced than ever, i am more level headed, i have more energy [don't need coffee anymore!], i heal faster, my immune system is virtually impene....

you can hear most of the recipe at 0:18 (that is for your first batch which starts the mushroom).
now i use 3 quarts of water, 5 green tea bags, 1 cup sugar and 1-2 cups of the starter tea already made. next you can either use the baby scoby that formed on top or you can use the whole thing together. hope this helps!
i have used it for my indoor plants and none of them have died.....but i can't say for sure if its doing anything good to them either. however, some plants prefer more acidic soil and i am guessing that those plants would benefit the most from it. i would just research more about the herbs that you are growing and see what kind of soil they prefer. thanks for watching!
You just use it to make kombucha tea every 7-14 days and then you drink that tea. If you google kombucha there is a ton of information about it on the internet. Also you can learn more about kombucha from videos on youtube (ex. Hannah Crum Expert Village).
Being a wine brewer,I wanted to know if brewing kombucha tea would have any affect on the two types of cultures? It is in the same house but not the same room. What are your thoughts, if any. And also, is it true that you can start your own mushroom as stated here on you tube. All the ones that I've seen locally have been on thier out.(old, dark brown and thin).
Kombucha seems to be very strong and has not been affected by anything in my house. As long as you keep it covered with a clean cloth or paper towel so that it can breathe I think it should be ok. (I use rubber bands to hold it in place). I don't know about the wine though...
And yes, it is true, you can make your own mushroom - which is what I did using raw organic kombucha and fresh sweet tea. The only thing is that it can take a very long time for it to form!
The mixture of sugar, tea, room temperature, and yeast/bacteria provides an ideal breeding ground for many micro-organisms (some pathogenic) and airborne fungi.

I use the mushroom on a new batch of fresh sweet tea and add 1-2 cups of the old batch of tea to it. After 7-14 days of fermentation I remove the mushroom, strain the liquid into bottles and repeat the whole process again.
When you brew more tea in a gallon glass jar, do you just put the mother on top and let it brew with cheesecloth on top all over again? Was that the layers you pulled out at the end of the video? How long do you let it brew if you are using the mother on top for a new batch of tea? Where does the vinegar taste come from? Can I use honey or agave nectar?
the vinegar taste comes from the active fermentation and it's NOT a "mushroom" it is a colony of yeast and bacteria. use plane white sugar you are feeding the colony so forget the whole 'white death' nonsense remember, the sugar is not for you. anything else and you risk contaminating your colony. as you brew it it will get a stronger acidic taste experiment around to find the flavor you like.

the vinegar taste comes from the active fermentation and it's NOT a "mushroom" it is a colony of yeast and bacteria. use plane white sugar you are feeding the colony so forget the whole 'white death' nonsense remember, the sugar is not for you. anything else and you risk contaminating your colony. as you brew it it will get a stronger acidic taste experiment around to find the flavor you like.
