  • Peter's videos certainly were sometimes disturbing, but always entertaining.

  • This is a track from Peter's melt album, the video uses the audio from the Plays Live version which is cool, he managed to mix the two mediums in his own way.

  • Thank you for posting this video. This is the first time that i have seen this video since it was played in MTV in the early 1980s, and it brings back a lot of great memories. What a great song!

  • Tool has got nothing on this guy

  • @manferot I was thinking the same thing. If you look at how PG had dressed in costumes for Genesis and how Maynard once dressed up in wigs and painted himself half blue and half white. Def. some influenced by PG.

  • I love to see Peter here 1:23

    :-)

  • Its not live this is a music video

  • @SBowerman10 This is live ... take a look at his "Plays Live"-CD [1983].

  • @SussudioPGFan It is also on "Play: The Video's"

  • this is what i listen to when im trippin on acid.

  • His acting is really good.

  • cool

  • Thx!! I have been searching this video and song for YEARS!! you SAVED MY LIFE!! THX SO MUCH I LIKED IT AND FAVORITE

  • omg, why have i never seen this before

    interesting mix of the song

    pretty good video

  • i'm gonna be having fgrilli's nightmare now thank you... of an Ikea sofa.

    Just what I needed.

  • wow...never seen this...just know the studio track...completely differnent mix...i love the vid...but love the lp mix better.

  • This video used to scare the absolute shit outta me when I was a kid. My dad used to strip completely nude and roll in flour at halloween then come into my room at midnight and do weird dancing like the guys in this vid. I couldn't sleep for days. Either way I've always loved this song

  • @Django5198 you made me almost bust my balls laughing with that comment LOLOL

  • @MrTEHCOMEDIAN It's hilarious thinking about it now but back then he used to scare the living crap out of me

  • If you lisiten original sound source, here.

?v=RUURAUugQcc The old man speak. Version with a different LP.

  • Jesus. How long has it been since I heard this magnificent song?

  • Alberto Gonzales's Theme Song.

If anyone gets that, I will be PLEASENTLY surprised.

  • I can kind of see where Adam Jones got some of his inspiration for the music video's he has done for Tool...very strange, but so awesome :D

  • Yeah! Using Butoh actors back in the 80's. Nice.

  • 5 PEOPLE DONT REMEMBER APPROVING THIS!

  • 0:25 Voldamort :o

  • CANT WAIT THE 25TH IN SOUTH PHILLY

  • This song is obviously about someone mentally ill who has killed people but cant remember doing so.

  • The atmosphere on PG Plays Live transforms the songs from PG3 and PG4 into something more human and, therefore, more unsettling.

  • As bizarre as it is this is one of my favorite PG videos...he's damn fine in it too.

  • i really like this version. NICE!

  • Now that Phil Collins has announced his retirement (and meant it this time), maybe PG should consider getting back together with Genesis on a permanent basis.

  • @cubdukat It wouldn't be the same without Phil on drums I think, but he physically can't play anymore can he? But I still think it could be a good idea if PG did reunite with genesis :)

  • @twtomwood123 let's hope Phil rests for a year or two and can play drums again.

  • this is fucking hardcore - seriously

    Gabriel - your badass

  • the people of youtube have learned a new word - under-rated and are using it extensively even where it is unneeded

  • @armandsdamanhoo Peter is regarded by many as a very influential and a creative musician for many years. Some of his songs were not necessarily hits by some people's standards. However, you should never judge a songs composition based on its popularity, you should listen to it and judge for yourself whether or not it is good.

  • a true modern day rennaisance man?

  • I hate it when I get eaten by my couch.

  • @Okoa That scene reminds me of Doctor Who The Terror of The Autons where someone is killed by being smothered by a plastic sofa.

  • Gabriel´s falling angel.I love Gabriel soul...

  • i love the high flick he does with his voice, so unique and kickass

  • song gets stuck in my head alot this one and steam

  • fucking psychotic music video. Pete Gabriel makes the best fucking videos!

  • pause at 1:24 wtf

  • I love Genesis, but I actually prefer Peter Gabriel solo.

  • I don't remember! I don't recall! I got no memory, of anything at all!

  • 1:16 - 1:37 Best part of the song... Not 'cuz of the Video... but the song..

  • Audio on this songs sound like a demo or something

  • @xisumavoid : just look at the comments above by SussudioPGFan .. both say, that this audio is taken from the album "plays live" .. so no demo oder something .. just live-recording...

man why can't ppl just think before posting?

  • @schnabeltassenwurm Im sorry next time i will read all the comments because i have that kind of time

  • @xisumavoid its not exactly like u had to go through pages to get there. i mean its at the top plain as day. and if u have time to look up and listen to this song u have a few seconds to read the top comments.

  • @Camotrollin0129 you 2 are having a joke

  • Ce clip me faisait un peu peur quand je l'ai découvert au début des années 80.

  • Wow. Really good sound on this. Always a treat to see & hear. Recovered from Leipzig PG concert yet? I haven't :-)

  • Actually, this is from "Plays Live" with some sweetening here and there for the MTV market -- but yes, it is a live performance at its heart. He was one of the first to do that for a video, and this one is amazing -- he's such a gifted PHYSICAL performer, even now... and we ain't none of us as young as we used to be. One of my favorites of a favorite artist.

  • I only like his third album and security. If you ask me his other music can be a bit bland

  • @Takenashi nobody asked you

  • I liked Peter's music more when he was alienated and angry. Therapy makes artists happier, but it doesn't necessarily improve their art.

  • @Genessender What proof do you have that he was "angry and alienated'? (Other than the music itself)

  • This song and video are ingenious and PG looks reeeeeally good here. ;)

  • WOW! haven't seen this video in over 25 years! completely forgot he made a video for this song. thanks for posting!

  • this version is so much better

  • no shit!

  • I have been desperately searching for this version for download. I know its from plays live, but this mix is different.

  • Levin's bass takes the song to another level

  • lol i saw this video on VH1 Classic the other week...it persuaded me to get the album, and that was even better because i like the album version better than this one :)

  • At 1':33'' one of the most frightening nightmares ever - being eaten up by an Ikea's Klippan sofa.

  • The single was released as a live remix from Plays Live in June 1983 :)

  • Yah,this is different than the one on the album I had!!

  • The drums on this song, driving, pounding, leading the song and the listener over the edge. It's GREAT! This version is good, but it loses some of that edge the drums have on Melt. Jerry Marotta and Peter Gabriel are a perfect combination.

  • ONLY 9800 views?

  • I know. Sad is it not.

  • this is a studio mix played the way PG was playing it live during the IV album tour. He has been known to continually rearrange his songs to keep them fresh when playing live. I like this version better than the III version. This was released somewhere between the recording of IV and V. There's about a million versions of "I Have the Touch" as well. The question is...is this version on a studio release at all?

  • Only if you count the Videos DVD... An amazing piece of work.

  • Tony Levin's bass playing on PG's work is absolutely amazing.

  • @clintyboy2112x1 I agree with you completely. Tony Levin is great but he's playing the Chapman Stick, not the bass. Sounds killer though.

  • @clintyboy2112x1 I think he's playing a chapman stick too

  • I'm shocked it only has 2k views...

  • Peter is one of the most under rated artists ever.

  • agreed

  • Agreed, so good.

  • @pastol Not true. Why do ou think that?

  • @pastol he is rated just fine. As a superb and extremely talented artist.

  • @pastol artist??????

  • This version is live, from Peter Gabriel Plays Live. I was at one of the concerts WAAAAY back when, at Saratoga, NY. It features references to the video for "Shock the Monkey", another MTV gangbuster. Truly cool.

  • I H8 Demos

  • This would of been a good theme for Kyle XY`s first season.

  • Is this version different than the album?

  • This is a Live-Version from the PLAYS LIVE-Album.

  • @SussudioPGFan

This is live ? Holy crap that's good !

  • @trollfinger

Yes, it's the live version from his album "Plays Live".

  • @SussudioPGFan

I went and got his whole discography. Damn good stuff.

  • @trollfinger its a v i d e o

  • @intogrey1

The song is off a live album...

  • @trollfinger

    thank you

  • @trollfinger Single Video Version... it's indeed great :)

  • i said the same thing !Lol apparently its from a live album tho

  • @StaticRadio Correct. They just mixed out the the crowd noise.

  • @StaticRadio Definitely.

  • Thanks for posting this. One of his best.
