I just had an insight. Sora and Kairi are forced apart and reunited so many times in the KH series, and they are determined to see each other all the way(save in Castle Oblivion, but that really doesn't count, because Sora doesn't remember that). Even though Sora is looking for Riku, he's always got his mind on Kairi, and back at home, Kairi's mind is always on Sora. They have to really like each other to wait for so long. :)
