As a huge Queen fan, Hot Space wasn't necessarily my favorite album, but it wasn't bad. Just astonishingly different. Gotta give them credit for trying something different, but their "niche" is rock.
For the record, the Live at the Bowl version of this song BLOWS the album version out the water. Great blend of disco and fast paced rock.
I am one of the biggest Queen fans up until Jazz. I must say that this is the first time I ever heard this song. I can truely say that I really dislike this song!
@viscig60 I've always wondered what the hell they were thinking when they recorded Hot Space. It's just such a... not Queen-like album. The songs are still kind of nice, in my opinion - I mean, I think everything that has Freddie Mercury's vocals in it is cool - but they're not as good as most others.
@thereez93 I think that they figured out that for some reason the bad songs made more money for them. "Another One Bites The Dust" sucked in my opinion but that song and album made them big money. If all of Queen's music was like this all along I would probably say to myself "it's okay, I guess" but to know how great their music can be (Night at The Opera, A Day At The Races, News Of The World, etc) this is really BAD in comparison.
I don't get why people were SO much disappointed, when I heard the whole album for the first time I was kinda surprised, but then I listened to it again and I noticed those are actually AWESOME songs. I think Queen made it because they felt like and my, they made them WELL. Those songs are yet another proof that Queen could make any genre of music they wanted. It's sad that many fans are so silly as to expect the same kind of music again and again...
I remember blasting this in my room & my dad saying to my sister "he's turning into a headbanger" lmfao!!! I was thinking yeah this is trash metal how can U headbang to this!!! lol!! but my sister said yeah this is headbanger music!!!
I can understand why Queen fans didn't like Hot Space. I didn't like it myself when I first listened to it. But after going back and listening to the album again, I started to enjoy the songs (especially this one) a bit more. A few other great songs on this album are Las Palabras de Amor, Calling All Girls, Action This Day, and Under Pressure.
The lyrics in this song are so dirty, haha, but I love the beat. A very Michael Jackson-esque song (this album actually influenced his album Thriller).
@BlinkAndYouDie I read that somewhere else today that this album inspired THRILLER in a QUEEN vid comment & I cussed the guy out!!! because MJ was doing disco a long time before! I can understand how it could have influanced BEAT IT cuz its Rock fused with disco! but not the album.. I think its the other way round as Freddie's fave group at the time was The Jacksons, so how much truth is there in wha U said!!? do I owe the guy a appology?
@handsomedevil98 Well, Freddie and Michael were good friends at the time, and had even recorded some demos together. Michael also encouraged Another One Bites The Dust to be a single.
I don't think Michael necessarily cited that this album inspired his, but it wouldn't be a surprise that this album influenced it. I mean, even from this song, you can hear it as something Michael would do. Brian May also said on his website that this album and Michael's have similarities.
@handsomedevil98 I'm not as familiar with Michael's music as I am with Queen's, but from what I've heard of him, this sounds a lot like something he would do.
Plus, where is it said that Freddie's favorite group at the time was The Jackson 5? I guess he could have started listening to them when he befriended Michael..
@BlinkAndYouDie It is said in the "Killer Queen" video for the Greatest Flix video compilation. Plus it is widely known that Freddie liked disco music. His only solo album was Hi-NRG which is a form of disco music. Plus, Freddie was a regular in Studio 54. Also there is a private video of him in 1991 I think with Mary Austin's child and you can hear the music in the background - there are 2 songs being played, both are disco with the second one being Billie Jean by MJ.
I actualy feel Hot Space was queens worst album, there were great songs on there like Put Out The fire, Action This Day, Under Pressure, but it was mostly experimental wasnt Queens fault it was there right to do something different, and if I were to name two weak Queen songs they would have to be both from this album, (Cool Cat, Body Language). Sorry to hate, I love Queen cant say I really hate any song they have done but there are those I just "like less" :D

@ABBAkitty by Queens standards it was poor, but by normal standards it was epic and funky.
