Why pick AMD? Because it a smart choice, you really think 80% all computer that are running are using smaller than 90nm cpu? No one going to be jumping in 65nm that fast and not even close with 45nm. AMD always been about scaling and price. More I can save on CPU and watt/hr while using my computer gives me more to use else were, same idea work with company and data center.
This guy is so full of shit his eyes are brown lol. "Our competitor has to always to jump to next gen technology to achieve the same performance." Intel jumps to the next step to stay two steps ahead not the same lol. The Q6600 Intel's lowest end Quad is 20% more powerful than AMD's fastest "true quad core". LOL AMD stop bullshitting.
It'd make sense to buy AMD, given they're decent value, to keep both companies developing and making profit. Its clear that two companies competing will give the market better products than one monopoly.
This guy talks total nonsense. He claims that AMD is not behind, that this is a total lie and that they WILL be releasing the "newer" technology in "16months" after releasing their current, which however just made to the market while the competitors did some couple of months ago.Wake up people and see the facts: Intel released 65nm months ago, AMD just did it recently and you're believe his lies?
Xeon based on Nehalem are kicking AMD ass these days
It seems that you ignore that fact that i5 750 beats (the similar priced) Phenom II X4 965 in majority of cases, and it consume significantly less power (specially in at idle)
lol, they can't build fabs cuz they're burning thru 600M per quarter and very very quickly running out of cash. Asset light = selling off amd headquarter to meet interest payments. hype.
AMD is pretty good for making very good use of what they have. When I'm concerned about is that the new technology in Penryn is going to be... quite advanced.
P.S. Sonderman's right though - Intel DOES need a lot more to make stuff happen. You also realize that they goofed on the x64 (which they licensed from AMD) in the EM64T implementation right? How long did it take Intel to switch to 64-bit for consumers? Tell me that it's still science fiction.
P.S.#2 Or how about that in the Top500 list, 4 of the top 10 are IBM PPC, 2 are Itanium2 (design which closely resembles PPC970), 2 are AMD, and 1 Xeon. Why is that?
How is that science fiction? What's next? You're going to tell me that my friend has an "imaginary job"??? LOL.
Or how about the next thing that you're going to tell me that is in 108 tests and experiments, that you're going to tell me that it was all a lie too??? LOL. Get a clue.
They're bringing most of the fabs online to .045 (roughly simultaneously). Notice how there are no yield numbers from the Intel camp? Why is that?
AMD has paired up with IBM since K7 and if you read the IBM Journal of Research and Development (and actually have clue what you're talking about), you'd know/realize that. My dual 2.8 GHz Opteron at home is more powerful than a dual 2.8 Xeon. (And the Opteron uses DDR, while Xeon uses DDR2)
In what metric? How many C2D's do you see OUTSIDE of the enthusiast market? TokyoU runs a supercomp with over 10,000 AMD procs (9th on Top500). C2D is NOWHERE to be found on that list. Ask yourself this: why is that?
AMD gets orders by the '000s. If every enthusiast bought TWO C2Ds, it'd still take at least 5000 enthusiasts.
Considering that AMD has bye and large followed their roadmaps ever since the advent of the Classic Slot A Athlon, I have every reason to believe that they are on track with their current roadmap; and no reason to suspect that they won't deliver.
The question is: will you own up to your error in judgement when Barcellona and Phenom hit the market this year?
I doubt it.
Chapter 11? The only people pushing that rumour are Intel Fanboys. It's not even a reasonable concern at this point.
OK, here's a thought. Say the Intel fanboys/girls are right and AMD goes under. There goes Intel's incentive to make anything worthwhile. There wouldn't have been any Core Duo without the Athlon 64 X2. Intel had to create that in response to losing market share all around. And if ATi goes under with them, then NVidia can slouch around also and give a rats ass about drivers and prices. Face it, no matter how much you hate AMD or Intel, you need both and same gows for ATi and NVidia.
Agreed! I wish more people would approach these discussions with that attitude. While I have a personal preference for AMD, I wouldn't want Intel to suddenly go belly up for precisely the reasons you point out. We need the competition to push each other in R&D, products and pricing.

"4. you seem to be ingoring the fact that AMD has 45nm processors too, which are the ones you should be comparing anyway. "
Which performs worse than the year Core 2 Quad in gaming according to the majority of reviews.
And thats really bad for AMD, because Phenom II has die size much bigger than C2Q and as big as i7 !

I Really like these videos, with the whole cell phone and crap going off in the process of making this video.
AMD, I'm really really sorry to be the barrer of bad news but 90nm is really really old.
WE ARE IN THE 21st century where is A.M.D. ?
WOW, this dude is shitting bricks.

Intel is also still producing 90nm

AMD start out if you can, by building a time machine, your 2 years, and soon to be 4 years behind...
Have a nice life, in Intels™ 45nm chips.
have a nice life, trying to construct a FAB32 factory.
LMAO

In other words we don't have enough money or investors to build the costumers a better product. lame

I just saw the a benchmark for Barcelona, and it seems that they are not much faster than K8.
There is no doubt that Intel 45nm are going to kill those crappy AMD K10 processors
maroom1 4 years ago
"I just saw the a benchmark for Barcelona"
Then you would have seen that it performed better clock for clock in most areas.

1. That's begging the question.
2. you didn't read my post properly
3. you love to cherrypick your reviews. Barcelona is much faster than K8, and wins in a lot of areas against Xeon's in server apps.
4. you seem to be ingoring the fact that AMD has 45nm processors too, which are the ones you should be comparing anyway.

"lol, they can't build fabs cuz they're burning thru 600M per quarter"
Most of their losses were because of the ATI aquisition.
In fact, their stock prices are levelling off. After K10, their stocks should start going up again. Or at the very least, stay level.

Hector Ruiz has established a corporate culture at AMD that promotes introducing solid, stable and competitive technology to the market.
I won't be at all surprised when Barcelona and Phenom take the lead in performance and efficiency again... for the next couple of years.
