Diggin' this acts RANGE...Blues, folk, psych and of course, rock. Cut 1 flashed' early The Mann Fred Mann Band, 2 reminded me of The Byrds' Chestnut Mare, n' 3 had me thinkin' of some later 60's Donovan. Myself being bred n' born in the midwest gives this act even more appreciation. I need some of their vinyl now!
Yeah -- like I've said, Terry Knight was a real sponge, and he was into just about every kind of music that was coming out in this period. The Pack's music really makes them the quintessential garage band in that they assimilated the entire scope of popular music and responded with their own covers, tributes, and original material.
looking at the musician beginning at 2:41 on the right side of the back side sleve n' he looks a lot like the drummer from Grand Funk Railroad. Any connections?
I love TK&P growing up in akron my dad told me abot the great bands there were on the radio back in the day wixy wcue wakr, im 36 this muisc is the best, new music is trash no talent.
I still have my Terry Knight albums from high school. I love his music. I agree, it's too bad these great songs were never put on CD (or iTunes, either.) THANKS for posting!
I'm excited about this but I kind of wish that this CD were coming out on a different label. I've gotten several Collectors Choice CDs that have been kind of cheap: no liner notes, bad sound quality, etc. I hope this one is half decent!
Egad! Aren't there any video clips of these guys. I used to watch them on Upbeat. Is any of that around? I have his albums and singles somewhere and at least 5 albums of photos from his Cleveland area gigs. I used to write to a group of Cleveland area girls who would send them to me. I did get to meet him myself in Milwaukee and Chicago.
I liked Terry Knight and the Pack after seeing them on the Cleveland music show Upbeat. I then became friends with some girls in the Cleveland area that went to see him when he played there. I have at least 5 photo albums full of pix and all his albums and singles! I met him a few times when I was in high school when he came to Milwaukee and Chicago.
I listen'd to these guys + others all the time in 1966-67 great, great tunes always was great to listen to I was only 14-15 years old then and music was in ..............
I used to see these guys every week in Flint , Michigan! Mark and Don even attended a birthday party for me at Bob Caldwell's house back in '67. good old days!
OH MY GOD!!!! I love this band so much, I never imagined they would be on youtube! Terry's voice gives me 1000000% chills! Oh thank you so much for this one I love it!!!
Glad you enjoyed it! I found both Pack albums when I was just a teenager, and ever since then I've thought their music was special. Since no record companies seem interested in putting their music out there, I figured I'd do it myself.
@myrecordcollection I am so glad you did! Those albums are really hard to find. You are veryy lucky to have them. I found a few songs of theirs on a website called "garage hangover." They have so many great 60s garage bands on there. I love this sound of music. Its such raw power. :)
Thanks for getting this up! This 45 has not been that plentiful...could you put up a version with Love, Love, Love, Love, Love, Love alone? By the way, the sound quality is great. This is my third favorite garage song, after (1) Love A Go Go by the Lime; (2) I See The Light by Music Explosion! Oh but wait, it's breaking up here...could you reload? Thanks! I love your channel & looking at your beautiful collection. Peace!
I'm from near Canton, too (Alliance). Canton got a LOT of big acts to play at the Canton Memorial Auditorium (since Civic Centre). Beach Boys, Sly & Family Stone, Paul Revere & the Raiders, etc., all in their heydays. Loved TK&tP's "You're a Better Man Than I" w/ Farner's fuzz solo. Great band! Sorry I missed them in Canton! :-(
I love these LPs. Both of them are buried somewhere in my collection. I have a rather tenuous connection to Mr. Knight. He dated my older sister twice when the band was doing a weekend gig in Canton, Ohio. He picked her up at the house, and I got to say hi, being the bratty little brother. :) All I knew then was that he was in a band. If only I had known...!
TK&tP came to Canton? Awesome. I was born in Canton and spend the first 23 years of my life right next door in Massillon. How cool to think the Pack came to Stark County!
This is nuts. I grew up in Massillon! I lived there from '56 to '87, then moved to Canton, and finally ended up in Canal Fulton. Nice to meet you! :) - Corky

@Playback007able
Per Wikipedia, both Mark Farner and Don Brewer (drummer) of GFR came from The Pack.

Is there any Grand Funk Railroad, another midwestern juggernaut, connection?

Actually they are on CD now. The Collector's Choice label put out a CD that includes TK&TP's first and second albums on one disc.

"Love Love Love" also covered by Brownsville Station on their 1974 album "Yeah" (which contains their hit "Smokin' In The Boys' Room").

Great tunes, I especially like "Dirty Lady".
They did a killer "I (Who Have Nothing)", too!

"Dirty Lady" would've sounded alot better if he weren't delibertately pronouncing words like Donovan doing an imitation of Harry Belafonte.

I picked this one up a while back, overall I enjoy it, though I think there's a few stinkers on it. This album is all over the place (musically)!

I agree with you in that the second album is a lot more variable than the first. I definitely favor their debut album, too.
