Sorry because of my comments before, it was not Rubens but exhibition at Amsterdam National Gallery was Rembrandt/Caravaggio which went afterwards to England and Italy. For the first time all his paintings were collected in a single place. This film is superb and also Peter Robb biographical book of M.
I was shocked by this great film of Caravaggio's life when I saw it five years ago! I looked after more information on him but many biographies are misleading, until I came to read some experts qualified reseraching I found this movie was very accurate to the "real" artist M was. In 2005 I attended exhibition Caravaggio/Rubens in Holland and realized how undervalued he was through the years. I'm not lying when I feel bewitched to this masterpiece, but I have to watch it in the proper mood!
this movie reminds me of Felleni's Satyricon. You have all these scenes that dont really connect with each other, their is a main storyline that's running through the movie but it's not really evident. And the scenes look plots taken out of a section of story. That's my impression of this film. Even the hue of the film looks the same as Satryicon.
Oh God, THANKS a HUGE bunch!!! I wanted to see this film so badly, heard 'bout it but never had a chance to see, and I am impressed beyond words! It IS strange, but VERY appealing! And I DO love Sean to pieces! THANK YOU for uploading it!!!
You have done a good thing here. So much of Mens lives are wrapped up on meaningless and pointless ends. Never amounting to anything. Caravaggios obsession gave us art that outlived his obsessions.
Thank you for this and the other movies. I've known Caravaggio's paintings but not the man behind them. I guess the director took some liberties when filming this. Very decadent, I think. Great acting, too. I've seen the other films you uploaded and I thank you very much for the effort! I haven't been able to find the Caravaggio 12/12?!
I can't wait for the ending. I think that Ranuccio might have done it, out of jealousy and anger. The part where he had a flashback of her and him was brilliant! And Caravaggio may have done it too. I think he also loved Lena as much as he loved Ranuccio as well.
Jarman does something very tender and unexpected with Lena's death. Many films that deal with homosexuality ignore the possiblities deep, meaningful relationships between the genders. Caravaggio is clearly deeply attached to Lena, and torn by his love/grief for her and his love for Ranuccio. OMG! Dimension! Yea!
I can't wait for the end ^_^ thank you for this it's a great movie!
Nehh... I'm sure Ranuccio did it but I still want to give him a hug =( Just in case he didn't. And the bit with him seeing her before she dies is heart breaking, just the look in his eyes, it made me cry, he's such a wonderful actor =)
I am really enjoying this and I'm glad you keep uploading! <33 I think Sean is brilliant in this move, but I am curious about the same thing. How did she die? Someone murdered her?
He did; he loved her and money, she loved him but money more so, hence her running off with a Lord or whatever he was. I guess it's a crime of passion, as it were...

This comment has received too many negative votes show
When it started it was a masterpiece, but the other half, in my opinion, it is only a common art movie!

How did the girl die? Was it childbirth complications? Disease? Does anyone know? So far I've enjoyed this movie even if its a bit odd now and then.

I don't know but I think Ranuccio (Sean Bean) murdered her.

Really?!!!! I thought he loved her. But he did seem jealous of her leaving with other men.
