I watched another case on this show that the landlady withheld the deposit of $500. They were also from New Jersey and the plaintiff only got back the $500. The landlady did not even send him a letter telling him why she kept his deposit. How come he did not get double? I think the judge sometimes plays loosely the law depending on her mood that day.

I cannot understand the Plaintiff's logic, why would she not do a thorough cleaning job? cleaning your house or apt properly before you move out, including carpets etc is standard practice and quite honestly EXPECTED. I don't see how she is suggesting that cleaning, vaccuuming, wiping down benches and counters is making it ready for the next tenants! the landlord making repairs and painting etc is prepping it for the next tenants.
