Italian's do the best dubbing work. You can hardly tell this movie is dubbed.

Sergio Leone's westerns (Fist full of dollars, Good, Bad & the Ugly, etc...) are like this where everyone but the main characters were actually speaking Italian then they dubbed it later.

@Scarpsad "Dawn of the Dead" was released in Italy with the name "Zombi" while this movie was released the year later as "Zombi 2" for the simple purpouse of cashing in the succes of that one, this is were the confusion comes from.

Sadly, it's a marketing trick that is used worldwide: for example two earlier Italian films were released in USA as "Beyond the door" and "Beyond the Door II" despite the fact they have nothing in common with each other, director, plot, actors or whatever. :(

for the most part the dialogue is the same in english, but they had to dub it over because the original sound recordings had sucky quality.

italians shoot movies without the original sound, well they don't intend to use it, everyone speaks his/her own language and no one cares about the actual production sound, since it will be dubbed anyway! learned that from the bonus material of Suspiria! little recommendation!;)

It wasn't meant to be a sequel, apparently Dawn of the Dead was released in Italy under the title "Zombie" around the time this movie was released, so in order to avoid confusion this movie was renamed "Zombie 2" or, Zombie Flesh Eaters"

There are a few things which do distinguish it though from Dawn Of The Dead and Night of The Living Dead,.. like the island setting, voodoo theme, and the rotted look of the zombies.

@YouzeBeASkeeza Fulci was trying to ride the success of Dawn of the Dead in Europe because in Europe Dawn of the Dead was named Zombi(without the e) so to capitalize in Europe Fulci made his film appear as a sequel by giving it the name Zombi 2. Zombi 2 was so good in it's own right that it didn't matter at that point. Perhaps Fulci bumped up his profit a bit though because of this strategy.

@YouzeBeASkeeza It is interesting though that Fulcis Zombie is based on the original stories of Zombies that were said to be in various tropical places(like Haiti) and were made Zombies by Voodoo. Voodoo-made Zombies seem to have some basis in actuality, see Wiki. This movie is based a little more on that than most Zombie movies.
